Snow Valley Ski Club

Working at Snow Valley was a great social experience, many of my colleagues I have kept in contact with after closing. Management was friendly and understanding and it was very obvious they cared about their employees and the general workplace environment. I learned many valuable skills such as handling with complaints from parents, being timely with all my expectations, and dealing with minor workplace issues such as a stolen pair of my skis. The hardest part of the job was the hour to paid hour ratio, I would be put on shifts sometimes with 2 and a half our breaks between shifts. This meant sometimes i would be there for 8 plus hours but would only be paid 4 or 5, this made the pay quite low for the amount of time I would put in. My favorite part of the job was the overall workplace environment, i'm quite passionate about skiing and being able to be paid for it made the job much easier, I also find working with children challenging yet rewarding and it made the job a total blast.

cons-
No-one us held accountable at this place. Most staff are ski bums with no work ethic or professionalism.  No rules are upheld and favouritism is rampant.  Not-for-profit company will never pay more than minimum wage so don't look to advancement here. You have to fight for hours, everyone is part-time.
Managers that have been at the hill for many years are out of touch with labour standards and procedures.

Nice place to work outside if you're not scared of the cold. Management is stale and has been there for ages. Constant cuts in hours whether it's being let go early or inconsistency in shift scheduling with lack of explanation. You put up with the bs for the benefits. Otherwise if you don't participate in winter sports and take advantage of their benefits there's far better places to work.

I worked as a lift operator at Snow Valley Ski Club, being an operator is great as long as you enjoy interacting with the guests that come by your lift, lots of shover work to keep you moving, and great employees and crowd that hangs around the hill. Awesome place that I plan to still work shifts at over the winter.

Full Saturday shifts (9-5) split up between four shifts operating one lift a shift. Three breaks, a fifteen minute morning one, a thirty minute lunch break and a five to fifteen minute afternoon break
I learned how to work and how to run a ski lift (surprisingly very intuitive) and how to be friendly towards customers

worked over 5 years, loved it a lot but snow school wasn't organized & inconsistent pay was the absolute worst. great for students & people looking for part-time work. you have to really REALLY love what you're doing sometimes to put up with showing up for 9 hour days and getting paid for (sometimes) less than half of it.

The management is very reverse on company growth for the employees - they focus more on spending for very useless items and giving the senior managers bonuses.
Made lots of friends while working here but I don’t think I would recommend making it a career.



This job is perfect if you want to explore more in to the ski and snowboard lifestyle. Not only do you meet some incredibly knowledgable people, they are always willing to share what the know with you. Easy job and perfect for weekends.

Great people, good management and wonderful guests. Good reciprocals with other mountains and a very convenient location. Best first ski hill to work at before moving out to the mountains! Will always have a special place in my heart.   

This is the best job for anyone if you don’t get enough hours just pick up a shift and that’s really easy because they use a website where you drop your shift and pick them up also the work pace is good it’s dead but we have some busy times that just warm you up from the cold
