What is the best part of working at the company?
The company is run by a committed family which flows love and passion into the workplace. I have been working with Sonshine for 9 years now and I would highly recommend it to all those active in the filed of social work.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Sometimes working with certain clients could be hard but thankfully Sonshine is a very supportive organization which would make the job easier for you.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Supportive, collaborative and easy going.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It very much depends on the day but working with my colleagues at Sonshine makes my day enjoyable.

It is a pleasure to work with the client once you learn their personality. The decrease in paperwork and administration made the job easier. You can eat for free during dinner and on weekends. There is a good structure for each day and there is flexibility to add some personal activity with the client. 

There is a hypocritical culture in the workplace that makes it toxic... There is no hierarchy order in management, so you feel everyone is in your business except yourself. It is more about critics than constructive feedback. For a demanding job, the is absolutely no benefit. Eventually, you feel drained but, their salary is so low you can't afford vacation/days off.   

* Swimming day is mandatory for staff as well*

The residents are a joy to work with. The management is very approachable, flexible and kind. If a staff member needs to take time off with short notice, the supervisors do what they can to help (of course, depending on the staffs history and the situation). The pay has improved over the last few years and may be comparable to other similar agencies. The front line workers are caring and hard working. They work as a team and suggestions or ideas concerning client care or staff productivity/wellness are very appreciated.

Unfortunately the environment is not a healthy one. Very individualistic, a lot of talking about other employees instead of encouraging positive growth and learning. Staff are not supportive of each other and often put each other down behind closed doors. Management does not deal with complaints well, or sometimes at all. Instead of fixing issues, staff who speak up are disregarded or “not a good fit”

I worked in a day program with 15 adults with developmental and physical disabilities. I explored how to work with the men and woman with developmental disabilities at Sonshine. I had to feet them, give bath, and so far. I did more than just an assistant; those people need others to help them to meet their needs because they are not able to talk, walk, eat by themselves or to take a bath for example.

I very much enjoyed my time at Sonshine Families. I worked in one of their group homes and one of their day programs. It is run by a family that is very involved and cares a lot about the clients and the company. I only stopped working there because I moved otherwise I would have stayed for a very long time. Great place to work

This is not a place anyone should ever work. They dont take care of their clients, they only care about the money they receive; and use government money for personal uses of the owners home. Staff do not have any team skills. 
They will fire you if you have mental health issues.
Staff cause distress in clients and do not care to change their environment.

The clients are amazing and so much fun in their individual ways. It is hard but rewarding work. I found management is very approachable and kind. They are a small company so you can feel heard and make a difference if you feel one needs to be made. They have the client's best interest in mind. 

I stayed here as long as I did, for the care of the individuals that I brought. I went on sick leave after my father took his life and chose to stay home to raise my children.

They care about each individual staff. They give chances, work to make the best environment possible and take feedback well. The clients are great and it is an overall amazing environment
