"Your at home here"
The slogan is just that! 
Uppermanagement selects team members they want to invest in, and move them up the proverbial ladder. This person usually consists of a distant relative or their best friends kids wife or even their own cousin. The only way to climb up that ladder is to have someone on your side, who as they have coined the term "we have plans for him/her" while the others who could do the job just as or even better will  get told "you haven't taken any of the management training" never anything like your a "great worker, let's get you on track so that one day you'll be on the management team."
If we are promised to get on track, you spend years waiting to take any course 
Their are only two full time staff per department leaving anyone else hoping someone will call in sick and you'll pick up a few extra hours, which doesn't happen, they leave the spot void for the day so at the end of the year they appear to have kept under budget to get that "good job bonus" (which never trickles down to the minimum wage workers) 
"Your at home here" means to me mom and dad are pushing me to work harder, do better and then stiffing me on my allowance for it. Saying "sorry it's not in the budget"
Attention managers: when was the last time you gave your staff recognition for a job well done? Christmas time when you gave them gifts that included boxes of moldy Christmas oranges? Or branded sling back packs full of close dated food and body care. For these gifts we say thank you grandma, for making me feel at home here.

Coworkers are the best part of work. I loved them all and they made the experience bearable, in the area I worked. Some people have their cliques but at the end of the day, it wasn't bad or noticeable. However, the lack of advancement, quality care and genuine compassion from the store manager/HR is extremely noticeable. They want your whole personality to be work, so despite the Supervisors being more welcoming to any issue you might have, the distaste from management is suffocating. 

They don't actually care about you as a human, they just care that you are another number to help the company succeed. And in any honest opinion, I must say that this isn't how you should treat employees who keep your company going. Your employees are the face of your company, treat them better. You should feel excited to go into work, even in the customer service world. It should feel like a second home and not one that is abusive. 

There is flexibility In hours which is nice but it's based on hierarchy, so if the people above you leave you're expected to step up even if you have other obligations. And when you turn this down, you can feel the discontent. 

Overall I had good experiences with the people I worked with and im thankful for that, but im sad to say that management makes it hard to *want* to stay or to go in. 

Co-op went through some new executive leadership changes within the last two years. The majority of senior and executive leaders are amazing and care about their delegates however some key players are toxic. The culture changed from a caring and collaborative environment to a place of broken trust and little engagement. Compassion, Integrity and caring about people are no longer part of their corporate culture. 

It was an amazing role under old leadership and the best part was building relationships, assisting management through coaching and collaboration. The hardest part of the job was the new negative, accusatory and never-good enough leadership approach along with poor communication/delegation and micromanagement. If you want little autonomy, to work in silo and be micromanaged and receive zero to little compassion if you ever need a day off or if your kids are sick, then be my guest.

My time working at Coop is a very mixed. At the start of my time working there it seemed pretty good and all of the people working there were very nice. But as time went on it became very clear that some of my co-workers weren’t very nice to new comers and would rather start drama than be productive and work. If I made a mistake or one of my co-workers made one, Managers seemed mad that we even made a mistake. It also seems like some Managers like to share very sensitive, personal information about other workers in the store as well. Managers also like to break rules that they set just so they can suck up to The CEO or anyone in Corporate. Working at Coop is good for High School Students who will only be there for a year or two but not for anyone else. The workers also belittle new people and start spreading drama amount other workers. The culture is Toxic and I don’t recommend working here unless you really want too or its your first job and wont be there for long. 

Over the past couple of years workplace culture and employee engagement has starkly declined. Upper management is completely disengaged from the myriad issues caused by their poor leadership decisions. Low pay, bad hours and frequent employee turnover rates have adversely affected the workplace culture. Despite frivolously purchasing various properties around the region, the company will understaff their departments leading to employee burnout and stress. 
Its unfortunate that working conditions have declined so rapidly in the past few years but that seems to be the company's new business model. They see all current and prospective employees as disposable and replaceable. Do not bother applying here. Save yourself the stress and apply somewhere else.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Quitting time.
To many chiefs in the ivory towers known as Coop head office. Way to many stupid rules from health and safety person and the HR department. I've never heard of a place that doesn't allow tips. Also if an employee finds a quarter on the ground it has to go in the till. Cheap cheap cheap. Borders on a communism type organization.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not knowing if a scheduled person is going to show up for work. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Terrible place to work. Way to many rules from head office. Way to much favoritism between managers and supervisors 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Terrible. I never watched the clock as much as I fid at Coop. Couldn't wait for the shift to be over.

Coop is poorly managed at the very top. HR and the head office group do literally nothing to help out and actively do what they can to undermine the actual store. They will do everything they can to take credit and talk about how fantastic they are but when they are required to actually help they will try their best to make you feel like dirt. CEO and many high level employees clearly think they are better than everyone else. Culture is at rock bottom with the new ownership.

The people are good, and has the potential to create a good staff, however the management is very poor. 
Note, that this is some select managers, not all of them. This review can only comment on the CO-OP Liquor Stores.
The CO-OP will shift their managers around the stores, and this can be very disruptive. Most importantly the company does not check up on the managers. This lets the managers get away with behaviors that most companies would not allow. 
The managers can be abusive to the staff. Some often don't understand the job, and push off the work onto the supervisors.  
The overall work is good. If you get a good manager, then the job will go smoothly. It can be a fun job, and the staff due to the small size becomes very friendly.

A typical day at work is dynamic and fulfilling, with a variety of tasks that keep me engaged and motivated. I've learned the importance of adaptability and continuous learning, as the role constantly presents new challenges and opportunities to grow. Management plays a vital role in fostering a positive environment, offering clear communication, support, and guidance that encourages professional development.

The most enjoyable part is the satisfaction of solving complex problems and seeing the positive impact of my work. Overall, the job provides a great balance of learning, teamwork, and personal growth, making it an incredibly rewarding experience.

When I started working here, the cliques within the business was pointed out immediately. There was favouritism shown, managers/supervisors with a “ more superior “ attitude . Don’t get me wrong, I loved working with the customers, but it only took me 3 weeks before I started strongly disliking this job. Co workers ridiculed other co workers, public humiliation seemed to be the only thing people knew around here. Co workers and managers were extremely unhelpful.  I would not recommend tis place, there is a reason why you see new employees at the front desk atleast every 4 weeks, it’s because employees keep resigning.
