A typical day at work involved coordinating and running the Life Enrichment department (overseeing calendars, retraining staff, onboarding new hires, managing files, and ensuring that programs met ministry standards, organizing events, re-establishing the Bridge to Dreams program).

I learned how to quickly assess a struggling department, build structure, and motivate staff to achieve better outcomes. In two months, I was able to turn around systems that had been left incomplete for years.

Management, however, was inconsistent and struggled to support the pace of progress. While staff expressed their appreciation for the changes and valued the leadership I brought, upper management did not provide the same level of transparency or long-term vision.

The workplace culture was a mix: the frontline staff were hardworking, compassionate, and eager for improvements, but turnover and leadership challenges undermined stability.

The hardest part of the job was navigating budget restrictions that conflicted with ministry compliance expectations. Despite doing the work effectively, financial limitations ultimately outweighed sustainability.

The most enjoyable part was working with residents and staff; seeing how quickly a positive, organized environment could boost morale and make a difference. Knowing my team appreciated my leadership and saw me as an asset was the most rewarding aspect of the role.

Overall, while the experience showed me how much impact strong leadership and efficiency can have in a short time, it also highlighted the challenges of working in an environment where management priorities and sustainability are not aligned.

This company is a joke.  I will attempt to make my review as entertaining as it was working there.

It’s easy to get hired here.  If you have a heartbeat, you’re in.  And if you are a “yes person” and willing to sell your soul to this company, you should definitely apply.  You’ll do well here and likely get promoted quickly.  

Mismanaged.  Imagine a bunch of nurses running a company with little to management training.  Speaking of training, that does not exist here.  And please don’t hold your breath for that thing your manager promised you; you’ll turn blue.

No consistency/clarity.  Expectations change daily, sometimes hourly.  Managers can’t give you an answer because they do not know themselves.  If you like confusion and chaos, this is the place for you! 

Don’t believe what the job description says, it is most likely false.  If you expect to feel valued and supported, think again.   

Do you like to get paid?  If so, move along because this company will make you wait for it.  They will make you think it is due to a slew of internal issues but really, your coworkers will tell you that it’s happened to them as well.   Getting paid back your expenses is also a treat.  

In summary, I would not recommend working at this company.  And, I was only there a month.




The full time psw coworkers will gang up new or part time PSW's. The management is terrible, and difficult to communicate with. They intimidate and overwork the staff, and will not call in additional staff to cover sick employees. What about hiring casual staff to cover sick employees?

There is mandatory overtime, and it does not matter if you have to start a shift at another part time job, have kids to arrange childcare for or school to go to. They require the people with the lowest seniority to stay and work mandatory overtime with 1 hour of notice, or you will be disciplined or fired for refusing to stay. They need to understand that most part time employees usually have another part time job with scheduled hours that they have to go to, and last minute mandatory overtime doesn't work for most part time staff. At least give 4 to 6 hours notice. Most of us have to call in sick to our other job, so we are not displined or fired from Chelsey Park. That puts us at risk of having attendance problems at our other job. They constantly require mandatory overtime.  Good luck getting hired full time, I know of part time staff that have been waiting for 5 years or more to get on full time. I worked two years and that was enough for me.

What is the best part of working at the company?
When I volunteered!  No pay, it was great.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Prejudice by staff.  Most staff are prejudiced against LGBT community and men.  Management will not enforce policies.  Also, staff coming in late for shifts.

Long-term care.  Full-time staff are long-serving staff, and tend to resent newcomers.  Most staff now are hired part-time, given overtime, pass their nursing exam, and leave.  Very high turnover of staff.  As a volunteer, I was considered invaluable.  The day I was hired, I was insulted, and for three years it went downhill.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I worked through the evening towards the end of my employ.  Generally quiet, so extra duties and work are required of night staff.  While my partners would sit through most of the night and talk, I would work.  They resented that, to the point it was extremely uncomfortable.  Now that I know a staff member made a false statement, and I was the person who took the fall, I would NEVER recommend this establishment as a 'nice' place to work.

Working as a Dietitian with Southbridge Care Homes has been one of the most disappointing professional experiences of my career. The overall work environment is toxic, with little to no support for allied health professionals. Dietitians in particular are treated as an afterthought, with unrealistic caseload expectations, poor communication from management, and no meaningful resources to carry out our roles effectively.

Instead of fostering a team-oriented culture that values resident care and interprofessional collaboration, Southbridge operates in a way that leaves Dietitians feeling isolated and undervalued. Constructive feedback is ignored, and concerns about workload or resident safety are often dismissed.

There is a noticeable lack of respect for work-life balance, and support from leadership is virtually non-existent. The constant pressure, lack of appreciation, and unsupportive culture contribute to high turnover and low morale.

If you are a Dietitian considering Southbridge Care Homes, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. There are far better employers in long-term care who value Dietitians’ expertise and provide a healthier, more supportive work environment.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The residents and families are great. Management are spoiled children bullying employees into submission and if they cant, they make up things and watch the cameras to pick up any tiny thing they can. they come at you with aggression until you finally quit or have to take a sick leave to keep your benefits, It's just so sad.

The most stressful thing is never knowing your worth or contribution to the well being of the residents. They treat them like cattle and just numbers. The ones with no family checking in are treated the worst.

stressful. better just keep your head down and NEVER say anything . Infection control is a joke and barely enough supplies for the residents or employees, unless you are management

Being short staffed at times, making it difficult to have 2 staff members where needed.

The unit I worked in the staff all supported eachother, were kind and created a very fun, caring environment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Changing clients clothing, bathing clients, checking on clients, getting clients in/out of bed, feeding clients, getting clients food/drinks/snacks, bringing cleaned laundry to clients and putting it away for them.  Making sure clients were safe, changing clients bedding, taking clients for a walk around their unit, using lifts to get clients in/out of bed where needed, turning bed alarms on, helping clients to toliet, reporting clients behaviors/changes in health, to supervisor.

Working at this company was one of the most exhausting experiences I’ve had as a PSW. The workload was honestly unrealistic and unsafe. On night shifts, there was often only one PSW responsible for around 30 residents, which made it nearly impossible to provide the level of care residents truly deserved. You’re constantly rushing from room to room trying to answer call bells, complete care tasks, handle emergencies, and still maintain documentation before the shift ends. It becomes physically draining and mentally overwhelming very quickly.

The residents deserve proper attention and compassionate care, but staffing shortages make that difficult. Management seemed aware of the issue, yet the workload rarely improved. Burnout among staff was extremely common, and morale was low because everyone felt overworked and unsupported.

The experience taught me resilience and time management, but overall, the staffing ratios and workload need serious improvement for both staff wellbeing and resident safety.

The senior residents were all great! My job was wearing different hats everyday. I managed all PSWs and completed all nursing duties including server, house keeping and administration. There was no support from management. The workplace culture  was great. We the team always had our residents come first and foremost! The hardest part of the job is that the environment in being expected to have everything done with very little time to do them nor any assistance! The place did not respect you as a leader and a person with family life. The most enjoyable part of my job was to make the residents and family happy at the end of the day. The PSWs I worked with great with the residents and family. We had a great time every events birthday parties, Christmas, New Year, etc. One PSW was great in creativity in decorating and making the residents feel so well cared for and happy!! Kudos to her!!
