What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of working at the company is the exceptional training and support we receive. From day one, we’re surrounded by leaders and colleagues who genuinely want to see us grow. We work as a team, and that collaborative environment really pushes each of us to reach our full potential.

I’ve especially appreciated the guidance and encouragement from our trainers—they challenge us to be better while creating a positive, motivating atmosphere. That level of support makes a real difference and contributes to our success.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of the role, at least in the beginning, is navigating the compliance requirements. As someone who is still new, it can feel a bit overwhelming at first because you want to make sure everything is done correctly.

That said, the stress really comes from the learning curve, not from a lack of support. Whenever I take the time to ask questions or seek clarification, I’m always guided through the process with patience and clear direction. The team is incredibly helpful, which makes the compliance aspect much easier to manage as you gain experience.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment and culture at the company are highly collaborative and growth‑oriented. We regularly participate in performance meetings—not only to review results, but also to share feedback and refine our approach, especially when it comes to supporting the underwriting team. It creates a space where everyone’s input is valued and used to improve how we work.

What truly stands out is the sense of teamwork. It feels like a family environment where you can rely on your coach and colleagues to help you grow. There’s no sense of competition; instead, we support one another with the shared goal of protecting Canadian families. That collective purpose makes the culture both motivating and meaningful.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day for me begins with completing any scheduled follow‑up calls. If no callbacks are pending, I set myself to “ready” to receive live transfer calls, where my focus is on providing the right protection solutions for Canadian families.

At 3 p.m., our team meets for a debrief with colleagues, our manager, and sometimes our coach. These sessions are an opportunity to review our performance, share insights, and identify ways we can improve our approach to better support the families we serve. After the debrief, I return to the phones at 4 p.m. to continue assisting clients.

Overall, the day is a balance of client interaction, continuous learning, and team collaboration.

There is little work/life balance. Shift accommodations for people with families are not great. Not enough time is granted in a day to work on admin work (applications, emails, compliance, etc). We need more breaks as we are in a chair for 8 hours a day. We are granted the legal required amount of time for an 8 hour shift (30 mins) per day, however we are not up and moving around like most people. I personally believe we should allotted extra time to get up and stretch our legs, backs and reset our brains as we read the exact same script over and over and over again for 8 hours straight. Mental exhaustion is real.  I would like to see more in person work gatherings - possibly around the holidays, etc. This is a VERY competitive job, you need to be mentally strong. I wish we had more resources for those who are struggling to reach quota. I feel like sometimes those who are not TOP sellers, often get left behind or not thought of as much.  Our benefits could be better. As people who sell "top of the line" insurance, we should have top of the line benefits and insurance. We don't have much covered honestly. The pros of this job is we have a great team environment. Management can be very supportive. The company gives out lots of great incentives for written business. The leads are distributed fairly and the company has done  a great job at making sure us as advisors don't have to call clients all day. We take incoming calls which is great for a higher quality lead ratio and time management.  The company doesn't charge you chargebacks for fallen off business and we don't have to worry about paying for our own licenses in different provinces. The company reimburses everything. 

So its a call Centre. the leads are brought to you which is great, but that's where the good ends. They have one insurance company with which to quote your prospects so that's a hurdle you will find trouble overcoming. Second, the base pay is mediocre but better than most life insurance companies are willing to give. Your benefits are terrible youll need to buy extra insurance to remotely cover anything anyone would call livable.

You will have two sets of sales numbers to hit monthly, one is to activate your "bonus" or commission the following month this could be treated as quota though they never outwardly say so. The second is the goal set by corporate. Hitting both is important because if your KPI's fall below certain thresholds you will not qualify for bonus and you'll likely be fired eventually.

The lead quality for top performers is good for the middle part of the sales staff it gets bad quickly. They fashion themselves a "high performance workplace" but some cursory division cirque 5th grade math class will tell you that of all the policies they sell they generally keep 50% or less of them 12 months later.

From the time I started until today the culture and environment has declined substantially. They now have new "rules" which contravene the Ontario Employment Standards Act. You are not allowed to use the washroom for more than 15 minutes per shift. You need to get manager approval to call back clients (like what?), if you forget to clock in/ out of the attendance system for your shift they wrote a memo that you will not be paid. If you are ill, meaning your attendance is not 100% you are not eligible for a raise. And now, despite the employment contract you signed for your bonus, if you make an error on application the bonus earned will e deducted from your pay. They do not give you enough time to review the call and application before sending to Quality Assurance and underwriting. If you are on ADMIN status to review your clients' application for more than 6 minutes their work force management (from Romania) starts telling you to get back on the call centre floor and take calls. Licensed professional advisors are treated like criminals- for any time spent on tasks other than taking live calls. And finally if you do exceed any of the new time policies they have implemented, you spend the rest of your day in your chair with no leads being sent to you.

I have been with Specialty Life since the end of 2022. The experience here has been amazing. The training was fantastic, better than I have received at previous employers. I have learned a lot and grown a lot since being here. 
A typical day of work would be logging in to all of your apps and getting ready to receive transferred calls, checking your voice messages and emails and participating in team and company message channels.
You also have access to a huge online library of best practices, video training for sales, compliance, apllication completion and more as well as access to listening to all advisor calls to hear what is working for top producers.
We have a fantastic culture here that promotes inclusivity. Wins are celebrated by the team and management and there are many incentives to help achieve your goals.
I love being able to help families daily and really love working with the group here. I have been able to get promoted to license supervisor and coach in the time I have been here through hard work and helping others.

A typical day at work is well-structured, with clear goals and opportunities to collaborate with teammates. I’ve learned a lot about the insurance industry and how to handle various client needs effectively. The company provides ample resources for professional growth and development.

Management is excellent—always approachable and willing to listen, which makes for a positive and transparent working environment. The culture here is very team-oriented, and there's a strong sense of camaraderie among coworkers.

The workload is well-balanced, with enough challenges to keep things interesting but not overwhelming. The most enjoyable part of the job is being part of a supportive team and knowing that you’re making a difference for clients.



SLI isn't a perfect company, but it's a good one.  They won't lie to you and tell you you'll make half a million bucks a year, but they do provide a decent base salary and lots of performance based bonuses.  If you want to be successful here, you need to put in the work, be on time, and deliver the goods.  However, if you do that, they are on your side.  Training is top-notch, and having qualifiers to do all the dialing for you is LIFE-CHANGING for an insurance agent!  The leads simply come to you, you don't have to chase them, lie to them, bait-and-switch them, or any of the other shady practices insurance companies engage in.

Compensation is slightly lower than what other companies will promise you, but take away clawbacks, cancellations, etc., and you can still feel good about making a fair wage even if you have a bad day, and that base salary will keep your bills paid.

The downside is they do not put up with non-performance.  If you can't do your job for any reason, you won't last.  Be prepared to work hard for your money.

The hiring process at Specialty Life Insurance is good, they do hire several people at once. Once you complete training, which is two weeks, you are expected to have licenses in several provinces, that you need to pay for (they do reimburse the cost). If you do not hit targets expect to be written up or terminated. Most people hired are let go, or leave within the first 3 months. If you do not make sales, the system is set up so that you will get a lower call volume, which makes it harder to make sales and hit the targets. The targets are very ambitious, with less than 2/3 of staff reaching them on a good month. Most of the leads are reused or are not sure how you got their information = cold calling, there are some good leads too. There is a base pay + bonus which is great for stability, benefits are available after 3 months. Overall it is a good place to start, but limited opportunities for long term employment or advancement.

 I recently completed training and the first few weeks on the floor with this company.  Overall, the training experience was solid.  My trainer was knowledgeable, supportive and did a good job of preparing me for the role.  I felt like I was given the tools and information to be successful.  
  The job itself is demanding and can be stressful at times, especially while learning the expectations and pace.  That said, the expectations are clear, the training is effective and the role offers a good opportunity to develop skills and gain experience.  I can see this being a good long term position for someone who is willing to put in the effort and grow with the company.  

This has by far been the best work environment I have ever had the opportunity of being apart of. 

The training was so detailed and they set you up for success! Its a very different dynamic than what you typically see for life insurance which helps keep the motivation high and they are always there to pick you up and see you be successful and be the best advisor you can be. 

As someone who is brand new to the industry I cannot think of another place I would have rather get my start. They have taught me so much and I look forward to what the future brings. There are so many opportunities for growth and I recommend becoming apart of the SLi family!
