Typical day is starting when the shop opens and immediately bringing in vehicles to work on. Every vehicle is different and each customer unique, which can keep things less monotonous. You will be replacing windshields, rear windows, door glass, mirrors, sunroofs, etc.  This involves finding the replacement glass, cleaning and prepping it, then removing panels and retainers/covers, wipers, then cutting the glass out from the vehicle with specialized tools, cleaning and prepping the area, then putting in the replacement glass.   Sometimes the process itself can get quite repetitive, even though each vehicle has it's unique quirks. A lot of the time the shop tools and shop itself can restrict you from doing the job as well as you should be able to, they like to cram as much into as little space as possible in most of the shops. 

Some of the worst management I've ever experienced. Every day seems to be some sort of crisis for the region. They don't hire enough people at the shops that need more people, so they are constantly sending techs to and from shops. When you are hired they will tell you that you "may on occasion need to travel" which in reality is literally every other day, so don't expect to have a consistent schedule. You get paid for mileage but it's still a massive pain to deal with different traffic patterns and having a life outside of work.   

They will tell you that doing things right are most important, but really they want you to go as quickly as possible and don't seem to care about having each shop be uniform or to have the same tools and tool quality.  There are maybe 2 shops in my region that have all the tools they are supposed to (outside of the technicians' personal tools), like vacuums, compressed air,  chip repair tools, the rest are mostly out of commission and completely neglected, or stashed away hidden somewhere. This makes the constant moving from shop to shop every other day a huge pain- you have to find where techs have hidden the tools you need, or you go to use a vacuum only to find it is completely broken and they "don't use those here" and management has done the bare minimum to keep things going in some bizarre way. There are no standards when it comes to the shops or processes, only with safety.  Some shops will gloat about how many vehicles they can process in a day while others may seem slow, but really the ones doing it fast are just heavily cutting corners and guidelines, even when it comes to safety.

Over 2 years of working there, it felt like there was a major shakeup of management every month. You will be jerked around and messed with constantly. Your regional trainer (who is amazing) will train you how to do everything properly and efficiently, but as soon as he's gone you have to do things however each shop does them, which can be contradictory or completely different. Required tools will just not exist at some locations. Quotas are company wide, but can be ridiculous, as different shops tend to get more specific types of vehicles than others. One part of town almost exclusively gets higher end luxury vehicles while other shops almost exclusively get work trucks, or exclusively 90's sedans.  Managers tend  to just say yes to every job before even considering how long/unsafe/possible a job even is, but you are the one that ends up having to deal with it.  You will also run into a lot of older techs that have been in the industry or with the company for decades who are "immune" to having to adhere to any new safety protocols or work procedures. They just do whatever they want, even really strange stuff like cooking food in the shop next to vehicles or straight up refusing to do calibrations (anyone else would be let go) or verbally abusing other staff or even customers with no consequences. So there's a LOT of elitism and rule bending for some. 

So if you're expected to do 5-8 vehicles per day and your shop tends to get really difficult or long process jobs where it's only physically possible to do a few, it's somehow your fault if you're not meeting quota. Especially insulting if there's not enough workers at your location because they sent them somewhere else for the day without thinking. When you are sent to a different shop you have to basically relearn your job and procedure because each shop is completely different. You will sometimes have managers who are fully trained techs just stand over your shoulder and micromanage instead of help/actually work in the shop. It's extremely demoralizing, annoying, and frustrating.

The constant flip flopping of management and micromanagement is why I left.  It was extremely insulting when I asked to stop being sent across the entire region every other day at last second notice and the regional manager said "sorry, we won't do it again" and then literally did it again later the same day.

TL;DR  The training is fantastic, everything else, not so much. Management is horrible.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I genuinely love working for this company. The support from leadership and teammates is something you don’t find everywhere management truly wants you to succeed and grow. The training provided is thorough and sets you up with the skills and confidence needed to excel in your role.

What stands out most is the opportunity for growth. This is not just a job, it’s a career. There are clear paths for advancement, and hard work is recognized and rewarded. Coming from a women, the company also fosters an inclusive and respectful environment where everyone feels valued and heard. 

They genuinely care about their employees’ well-being, both professionally and personally, which makes a huge difference in day-to-day work life. In the past year my employees have gotten multiple wage increases. Overall, it’s a positive, motivating workplace that I’m proud to be part of. 

Upper management is approachable, supportive, and actually listens, which makes a big difference and shows they genuinely care about employees.

It’s a great fit for people who take pride in their work, are team-oriented, and want to grow. Like any workplace, expectations are high but very manageable, but for those willing to put in the effort and maintain a positive attitude, it’s a very rewarding place to be. 

Coming from a retail background, the work-life balance and overall stress level here are far better than any job I’ve had before. It’s a much more positive and sustainable environment.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The role can be fast paced during peak season, but it keeps the work engaging and the days go by quickly. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is supportive, inclusive. As a woman, I’ve always felt respected and treated equally, which is extremely important to me. The company also stands out for how much it gives back. I've done a volunteering day for the foodbank and they encourage employees to have a paid volunteer day, they also make a donation to a charity of your choice.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
No two days are the same. It’s a lot of multitasking, helping customers and staff at the front, managing operations behind the scenes, and jumping in to support technicians with calibrations, chip repairs, and getting vehicles ready for delivery. Have to be a effective problem solver when stuff comes up. You’re always learning something new, which keeps it interesting.

Some upper management are very unprofessional where they will sabotage certain employees for no particular reasoning.(pre conceived opinions of people)
After 4 years with a great company I was "forced out" by newly hired upper management with no professional standing or basis for the treatment.
This made me sour to the company as a whole for allowing it to happen in plain sight. Various managers questioned and could not understand the off based opinion of me and my work from some superiors, but still allowed abuse to happen regardless.

I regretfully quit after about a year of enduring this abuse and accepted an offer from a competitor from across the street, for more value and wage. I was then screwed over by said competitor during probation period, but not after training, organizing and re-vamping they're business and now I am fully out of the glass business due to a disgusted, distrusting feeling from the business.

Sad really....but I am now smarter with my business

The locations i worked at in the Niagara region weren't terrible at all. It consistent work everyday. I prefer that over being board anyway. Its a great place to learn a lot about the trade in a short amount of time. The amount of work expected is high. And the biggest down side is the pay. You have to be skilled and knowledgeable to do this job. But you'll be paid as if its a entry level job like fast food. Thr pay definitely doesn't match the skills required. 

They didn't offer me a more fair wage until I decided it was time to move one. Too little too late as they couldn't offer more then my new employer proposed. Over all I didn't mind working there. I sorta wish I had spent a bit more time just from the amount of knowledge I was picking up. I was lucky to be paired with a 40 year + veteran,  and couldn't have asked to be in a better location. I miss it for that. But ultimately it didn't pay the bills.

I had a unique opportunity working for Speedy Glass. I functioned in many roles from installer, field technician, sales person, trainer and fill in manager. I loved my work there as an installer, trainer, field technician sales person. The wages I received were different than other technicians with the company. And I had ample holidays. There is a fair benefit package health, drugs and pension plan. Many of the stores that I worked for have managers of different quality. Some managers were beautiful people and there are specific individuals that will indeed break laws, short a persons pay, violate human rights (bullying, harassing, belittling). My advice if you have one of the better ones, give it a go. If you happen to get the bad manager just walk out the door. Life is too short to work with such a miserable person.

It was a wonderful place to work in the beginning until the management changed 2 or 3 times in the last 3 years.  Different demands and expectations each time and the demands that are made are not reflected in your pay. You'll end up doing more tasks and demands (essentially doing someone else's job) without receiving any pay raise. The benefits are the only real thing going for this company. I've inquired about a managers position multiple times and have been brushed off time and time again even though I was told I would get an interview but never recieved one.  If you are looking to advance in this company, you'll have to think again as they hire from outside the company. Only thing going for this company is the techniques and skills you can learn and the benefits. 

Boss was excellent , easy to deal with, pays well. Co-workers? Depending on the day and situation. Some workers get away with things thatbno other shop would ever tolerate, others would bend over backwards to help one another.  Honest with the customers, never took advantage of anyone, actually did what they could to help the customer get done what was needed. There are busy times and down times. Typical 8-5 work week, occasionally a Saturday in the New Minas shop, only open for 4 hours on Saturday though and only in New Minas.  Get medical benefits and life insurance,  vacation time and sick day pay, employee discount, paid holidays off, most of them,  even a few that are not a stat holiday.  Good all  around place to work, only the couple not so great employees on their bad days make the work life not the best at times  

Your coworkers will be great, they seem to only hire decent people. That said the company is a dumpster fire. They hired me not telling me the shop in my city was not open, they stuck me in there after 5 weeks training to take windshields out and wanted me to do front end duties as well, with proper training that would not have been an issue. Then when they closed the store (again) they sent me all over covering people’s vacations all the
While (9 months) telling me the shop would reopen. They totally wasted almost a year of my life with empty promises. The wage is livable, the benefits are okay and your coworkers will be awesome BUT that doesn’t compare to the stress you will have with anyone above you they throw everything at you with no training. 

Out of my 4 years they went from 40hours biweekly to 35hours, so that’s $3000 a year you miss out on. The corporate cards are just a bunch of shoe fillers as they can’t and won’t find or pay the proper people with experience to fill the shoes and maintain proper knowledge about what comes with the glass business. You have more responsibilities and work on $3000-$150,000 cars and trucks and semis but you will not be compensated nearly close to proper for what you do. They will keep taking your hours and promise you raises but it’s by cents and years of work not performance. Cheers

This company has great potential if they would be willing to adapt to the local market better. 

General employee feedback falls on deaf ears, and regional management tries to follow the business model of other markets which operate differently. 

When (inexperienced) management is approached about problems and is supplied with a realistic and practical solution it often gets dismissed as being the employees complaining. HR is your best friend if you work at this company.

Don't expect a fair wage for the amount of work you do, at least in the Calgary area. 

The saving grace for this company is honestly the employees. Most of the people that I had the pleasure of working with were honest hardworking people. Most however keep at least one eye on the horizon for better opportunities.
