I worked their for almost 2 years and never had an issue until recently when some changes were made that were completely unnecessary. Not only was the work environment stressful, but I felt fear when coming into the workplace. The whole environment was full of toxicity. I would get questioned and interrogated when taking a day off. Managers (not all) harass the staff and make them work long hard hours. As a part time position, I was working an illegal amount of hours as a minor. Staff would be working until 3am and start the next day at 9am. I watched alcohol be served to minors. The place was dirty. Mops are moldy and smell horrible, Laundry room had used cigarette butts in it along with ants, moldy food, and mice. I was able to serve alcohol as a minor which is illegal. The staff is all drama with many inappropriate things happening behind closed doors. Staff was not respected whatsoever. Working 12 hour shifts with no break. Staff (including managers) coming to work under the influence of drugs. People getting fired for absolutely no reason at all. The place is a mess and it is not worth anyones time. The only good staff were the teenagers. They made the place a fun and safe environment where everyone was friends and this allowed many more customers to enter the building. It was a very enjoyable job until recently. Schedules were very unorganized and unfair. Taking a day off or calling in sick before a shift was almost impossible without being harassed for a valid reason as to why you cannot work. As a part time worker and someone who is in school full time, I should not be questioned every time cannot work (which was not often). Part time means part time. Not 7 days a week. I was always told that I was being "closely watched" on the cameras which I found creepy and a violation of my privacy. I was harassed for not being able to work until 12;30 am on a school night. Managers (not all) do not care about feelings or anyones personal problems. Also, when I was not working, I would come with some friends to play games or play pool. I was kicked out twice, for no reason other than being in the center when I'm not working. It is a public place, which means anyone can go. But I was asked to leave for absolutely no reason at all. We were referred to as "children" which is the reason why no one respected us or valued our hard work. Us, the "children" made the place way more popular than it used to be, but we were never appreciated for that. Even when I was on break, I was encouraged to leave the building as I wasn't allowed to talk to the staff inside. I did not drive so I would have too stand outside in the cold until my break was done. don't work here unless you would like to get harassed and unappreciated.

I worked at Splitsville for a short period of time and initially I never had a problem with it until the final few months of my position. New management was hired and they were very disorganized and didn’t know what they were doing. They had no respect for their workers and didn’t care for them. The building was very dirty, there were ants in the kitchen, grime coating the laundry room etc. Minors were able to handle alcohol and sometimes staff would come to work under the influence. High school aged staff were expected to work long hours despite having school the next day. I was asked to work until 12:30 multiple times on school nights, which I was unable to do and and got scolded. When training for another position I received a brief explanation and was expected to figure everything out myself. The staff picked favourites and would let their wrongdoings slide but everyone else would be under fire for the same mistakes. I worked long shifts without a break several times. This was especially problematic as I would go practically the entire day without eating if I worked mornings. I was FORCED to work late almost every shift and if not management would get upset. I could not leave my station until a manager came to tell me to leave and I had to wait for them to count my till. It sometimes took an hour for a manager to be available to count my till and sign me out. I was once asked to clean my section during a shift before leaving to count my till (I already stayed over an hour later than scheduled) which of course I did. Once I left a bunch of guests came back and the area got messy again. I was reprimanded for not cleaning even though I had already done it and I was expected to clean it again despite the fact I had already clocked out and stayed past my scheduled time. On another occasion I felt uncomfortable due to a few guests and made this known to management, I was told I could wait in the office as again I was staying late and would be leaving soon anyways. Not soon after another manager forced me to go back to my station with the guests.

Do not work here if you want any work-life balance. The workload is consistently unmanageable, and employees are regularly expected to put in extra hours with no additional compensation or recognition. This has become an accepted norm rather than an occasional exception. Ontario’s “Right to Disconnect” law means nothing to them.

Additionally, Canadian employees face ongoing job insecurity as local roles are frequently phased out and shifted to the UK due to the parent company’s centralized approach. This makes long-term growth within the Canadian team feel increasingly unrealistic.

The benefits package is well below industry standards. The drug plan’s annual maximum is especially concerning, offering very limited coverage given the high cost of prescription medications in Canada. Instead of making adjustments to their plan, employees are expected to either pay out-of-pocket or go without necessary medications.

The office is also too small for the size of the team, and there are no plans to expand or relocate. As a result, employees work in a cramped and uncomfortable environment that does not support focus or collaboration. Despite this, there is an increasing expectation for employees to be in-person more, even with inadequate space available for productive work.

All of these issues could be remedied with additional investment. But, despite constantly bragging about their fiscal health, this company makes little effort to reinvest in its employees. Professional development, competitive benefits, and meaningful retention efforts are noticeably lacking.

You will never be more than a number at Splitsville.


for the most part I was able to learn a lot and meet a lot of new people which is always a plus.  was able to shift around to different positions and job titles with more and more responsibilities but when it comes down to it theres a LOT of conflict of interest. there's staff that are related which isn't the problem but the favoritism is clearly noticeable. people don't always seem to respect a job title or position, most servers are caddy and talk badly about everyone and anyone, then think they have the authority to direct other staff members. (not all of them are bad but most servers are) also a real problem with bullying, I get that not everyone is going to be friends but you still have to get along to work with them. some of the management seem like they don't really care when certain things are brought up regarding other staff members or issues and they never seem to get dealt with. on the other hand though, depending on whose bringing up the issue it may either the dealt with quickly and right then and there or the person reporting (or complaining about the unfairness) is basically told to shut up and ignore it or just go with the flow.

some decent changes have come into place because of covid-19 but the drama and cliques are still very strong and won't be going away anytime soon.

Management is really bad. Staff is poorly trained. Favouritism is a huge issue. Walk outs are common - 'dinning and dashing'. The bar is dirty and staff serves minors drinks. I had to spend hours during one shift cleaning underneath the bar counter, it was littered with rotting fruits, dead bugs, mold, and bottle caps. The draft system for the beer was not good and slowed down service times as beer would come up as pure hop. The regulars made me extremely uncomfortable, I received inappropriate remarks from them and one individual slid his hand across my buttocks on a shift. I reported workplace harassment on behalf of another employee, which we obtained proof of; the only action they took was an apology. I have never seen a place so unorganized. Management cannot do their jobs and our tips were constantly messed up. You will be blamed for other employees' mistakes/conduct and reprimanded for them, like if they enter or close a tab under your name, if the kitchen is behind on orders, or if the front counter fails to reset lanes. All of which will certainly result in a complaint. The customers here are extremely rude, if you dont have thick skin; dont bother applying. Management will never stand up for you. If I could, I would give this zero stars.

There are certainly some management problems which include favouritism and lack of organization. They’re Always either overstaffed or understaffed, and training protocols could be improved. There are often people who have been “trained” but don’t seem to know what they’re supposed to be doing which has proven to be a safety hazard in my time working there. Don’t expect to get a raise when working here because the people who get promotions and raises just seem to either be picked at random, or they just happened to ask at the right time, and it’s not based on merit whatsoever. I’ve seen people who have been working there for 6 years and are still making minimum wage. Also for some reason the centre is open until 2am on weekends, when typically customers stop coming in around midnight. Other than that, the work environment is good and managers and shift leaders are usually nice and professional and they will make accommodations for your schedule or duties if needed. Can’t say I’d recommend working here to a peer, but if you’re a teenager looking for a part time job and don’t mind late nights, then this might be a good job for you. 

I haven't been working here for very long, but one thing I know for sure is that I need to get out of here ASAP, to save my mental health. I have never seen a place like this before. No one in this company actually care about the employees. Just within 2 months I have seen at least 15 people left (either quit or got fired). 
The job is extremely stressful and the managers have made it 10 times worse. They would follow you around trying to pick up on everything you do and  literally won't leave you alone, especially the older manger. And while you're stressing out, they just stand there watching you struggle and  still be calling you out for all the silly little things. 
Oh and not to mention that the culture here is very so toxic, it's literally all about favorism, if they decide you're not their favourite, even if you're just minding your own business, they won't make your life easy here. Also if you're nice you get step on, and you can't rlly trust anyone. Basically if you don'y have the time and energy to deal with all the drama, do yourself a favour and go somewhere else, truly.

People there are cool, the only pro at this place, the highlights were meeting and working with the immediately people around me.
Upper management is terrible, no proper direction, no communication, toxic work environment with no intervention. (attacked for doing your job correctly level)
Given broken and dated equipment and penalized when it affects your performance.
No proper training, had to learn everything on job, no trainer, training for new releases would happen a week to a week and a half after the release has happened.
Refused commission promised, or any pay raise. ran a competition then never paid out the prize.
Overwork you, and schedule you in on days you booked off or aren't in your availability; while refusing to hire new employees.
You find out about changes from customers instead of the company more often than not.

Splitsville has a lot to offer both customers and employees. It is a great atmosphere with some great people to work with and learn from.

However, there is hardly any benefits if any to this job.

You need to understand when taking this job that there is a lot more to it then you may think, and you have to be very hard working and used to woking at a fast pace. 

Long hours and day in the winter, dead in the summer. 

I do feel as if this is a place you would want to work part time. They do not really seem value you more the longer you work there, and the pay will never be raised unless you ask (you wont be rewarded for your work to often, especially being in a higher up position unfortunately).

I have learned and met so many amazing people at Burlington's location, but i am very relieved to be finding a job where the pay is a lot more suitable, hours are better, as well as benefits and stress level.

To start with, this is an easy job to get, honestly. People with no or some experience get hired all the time which is why it is difficult for people who are already experienced to survive there because of high level of stupidity. No flexible shifts, the GM is going to get mad at you if you want the weekends off or if you dont want to work EVERY weekend, he is going to get mad at you for having a social life, booking your birthdays off. Then it comes down to the management which is filled with INEXPERIENCE. and then they get mad you for making them feel stupid. Like bro you being the manager does not know how to do the job and you have the audacity to come at me? when you keep your opinions or your pov forward, the GM will probably play the 'i am dissapointed in you' card. all in all, a good place if you want good hours, overwork as a student, make decent money, dont want to have a social life, and get your mental health destroyed.
