My experience at Sprott Shaw College was both rewarding and professionally enriching. A typical day involved working closely with students, staff, and community partners to support enrollment, program development, and student success. The environment was fast-paced and required adaptability, problem-solving, and collaboration across multiple departments.

During my time there, I learned a great deal about private post-secondary education, regulatory compliance, business development, leadership, and building partnerships that create opportunities for students. The management team was supportive and encouraged innovation, accountability, and professional growth.

The workplace culture was collaborative, student-focused, and driven by a shared commitment to helping people improve their lives through education. The most challenging part of the job was balancing multiple priorities and responding to the evolving needs of students and the organization. The most enjoyable part was working with passionate colleagues and seeing the positive impact education had on students as they achieved their personal and career goals.

This company is the definition of nepotism.

In recently years, being bought out by an overseas investor, things have changed dramatically. Job seekers should take the time to research who is backing this front.

Senior management are all friends and family, and those that have no connection are eventually let go for unqualified individuals with a connection.

Advancement is only available for brown nosers and family/friends. It is easy to get away with anything here, cause few staff members are competent or know what they're doing. Most of the time you'll see them sitting at their desks taking a nap, playing phone games, watching sports, or eating. While this is going on, they expect few to no breaks from other staff members to make up for their lack of effort.

Turnover is immense, campus directors, employment specialists, admin staff, and instructors cycle through here faster than programs finish off. Students are disgruntled with having to change instructors countless times during a 6 month - 1 year program.

Co-workers are nice people just trying to make ends meet, however, with random cost cutting and minimal raises, there is much tension in the air as each campus is out to undermine others since it's a sales company targeting those that have no choice but to turn to a private institution.

If you're just looking to not have to think, while getting paid, and be a mindless drone, this is for you.

I was the first Instructor in the inaugural Paramedic (PCP) program launched April 2024. 
I'm a multi-degreed, Critical / Advanced Care / Flight Paramedic with 9 years teaching experience. 
Initially hired as part-time, after initial feedback from my students (4.8s/4.9s out of 5), I was offered and accepted full-time. 
I resigned after five weeks of endless battles to improve (read:  make functional, practical, appropriate for meeting COPR & EMALB standards, and enjoyable) the program's curriculum and IT, and considerable delays in equipment and facilities preparations. Work should never be a battle, but this is a culture of gaslighting, arrogance, and profit over preparations. 
The salary is 50% of what it should be given it's not only instructional, preparation and marking time but a considerable amount of time just finding something workable among the detritus. 
My students are an amazing group and I strongly want them to succeed, but the program is dubious. 
We need paramedics, desperately, but not this desperately. 
The true test is this:  If it were one of my sons in the program, I would withdraw them and go with a different school. 
For a Paramedic considering moving into teaching, I recommend moving into a different institution.


The management turnover is without warning, as well as the PN instructors. There is no overseer and staff and instructors are often left to their own vices, changing their stories to get out of difficult situations. 

Staff: Advisors are very cranky because their job is all sales and each client lost means less money. Totally double-faced. Finance Admin are overworked, burnt out and tired. Employment Specialist is useless, since they're old and their information on job market is outdated. Receptionist change all the time and difficult to keep track.
Instructors finish early, often fill their lecture times with potluck and movie.

Students mostly never had real education, and lack the basic etiquette and manners. They use school supplies like it's theirs, sometimes steal each other's stuff, clog toilets all the time. Most of them are difficult to deal with because they're single-parented, unemployed and are mostly under financial assistance and nothing in their life is working out. The more you try to do for them, the more unsatisfactory and demanding they become.

This place needs rules and regulations and needs constant auditing. If the staff listens to auditor that is..People so trivial with big ego...

I am an instructor with Sprott Shaw College at the Seymour location, downtown. I've been with the company for four years and love it. Our campus has a wonderful community feel. We all work together and support each other. We are unique and different in our own ways and still feel connected and valued. Management is very approachable and open to communication and feedback. The company offers benefits to full-time and part-time employees. Sprott Shaw College promotes professional development and pays for the instructors to further educate themselves and be the best they can be. I am a full- time salary employee and feel secure and happy. I can balance my work life and family life without feeling stressed or overwhelmed. I have been given opportunities to challenge myself, work on projects and further grow. I feel that this company cares about me and acknowledges my hard work and loyalty. I also appreciate the social culture dimension. We support Mental Health on various levels, staff, student and community. We stand out for what we believe in and make a difference in the world. It is a great opportunity to work for Sprott Shaw (Seymour-Vancouver) as an Instructor.  This job  satisfies my passion for teaching, it provides a good balance between having the freedom to plan for the course as well having resources available.  The director/assistant director has created a warm, friendly, respectful and professional environment, therefore it is a joy to be at work.  This job position can have longer working hours, outside of class time, however, because of the welcoming environment I do not mind that.  Also, spending more time at the campus helps me stay connected with other instructors.  Another great part of the campus is the open communication that is between the instructors and the directors, so that everyone is on the same page, in addition to monthly meetings.  Throughout my experience,  I am getting better at finding the balance between work and personal life. Also, learning about different cultures of students and finding the best techniques and methods that work well for their learning.

When I first joined this organization, like anyone new to the education field, I found myself a bit uncertain. I had a lot of experience, but I needed to learn how to effectively teach it to students. After a couple of years, and gaining valuable operational experience, I was promoted to Campus Director and eventually elevated to the Regional Director position. And with each position, I was given the opportunity to use all my past experience to build a meaningful career in education.

What I appreciated most was the level of independence I was given to learn, grow, and make the changes my campus needed. I always felt supported under Vic Tesan's leadership—I felt trusted to make the decisions and gave me the space to adjust when necessary.

Since I've worked here I have witnessed many positive changes with benefits, increased staffing levels, and management wanting to get feedback from employees.

The best thing about my job? I get to meet great people, each with unique story, with a desire to become a "better version of themselves".

With each student you register, and see graduate, you are able to reflect the hope-buildling and support to the person sitting across from you. So many people have overcome so many challenges and have found gratifying employment. 

Each campus has its own feel - like a family - and we work in tandem to make it a great place to work, and a great place to learn. By the way, you will NEVER stop learning in this position! NEVER. 

Every job has its paperwork and this one certainly does as well as achieving targets. So the person who is the best fit for this is a well-rounded communicator. Follow the protocols, stay positive, remain open and follow your heart. (The paperwork comes after :)
