Spruce Meadows

At Spruce meadows a typical at would look like going to the storage shack and I would get instructions of what I would be doing for the day and I would then get the equipment for the job. I would highly recommend spruce meadows if your looking to learn something new because I learned a lot during my time working there. Hardest part of the job would be the weather because it was an outdoor work area so was really hot sometimes or when it rained really hard. The most enjoyable part of the job would be doing something new and learning new things.

Days are about 10 hours long on a good day. Expect to work more than 7 days straight with no extra compensation. Management likes to tuck problems away and not ever deal with them. Management is known to belittle employees. There’s a definite hierarchy here and favouritism. Not much room to grow here. The horses are the absolute best group of horses i’ve worked with. Management definitely needs work and to protect their employees and this might curve the insane turn over rate. 

If you love horses and show jumping it's a beautiful place to be. The facility itself is breath taking. The various jumping stadiums and indoor arena are a sight to see alone. 

What was not good was the lack of training, not being told the important things and being thrown in the deep end to drown. If you're not a physically and emotionally STRONG individual you will not survive at Spruce Meadows. Hard job for little to no reward. Unfriendly (80% of the time) staff, and poor management.

This is a great place to work 
however you don't get much life out side of the work at spurce Meadows fast paced environment changes rapidly 
a basic day: start at 
6:30 a feed, stalls, waters and daily chores done 1st
than groom for riders and more chores until 
11 a feed lunch to the horses more chores till 
1 p take lunch  back at 
2 more stalls, cleaning, feeding, grooming and eqiune 1st aid till 5 or 6 than come back at 9 for night check

Pros
Regular paycheck, accomidations, benefits after 3 months
Cons
Overworked, banked overtime u don't always get, management struggling to keep the place running, you don't get your full breaks, and sometimes proper training falls through the cracks. 
If you love horses you may like it but you'll burn out very quickly 

Management isn’t willing to teach employees, would rather speak down to them.  Was immensely underpaid, no overtime pay, and made to work overtime hours. No benefits. Was given$20/day of spending money for away tournaments. There is a clear hierarchy, and no environment of teamwork. 

Used to work at Spruce for 8 years. Had a great time Awrsome place to go to work every day. Butiful setting great people. Looking forward  to getting back there one day.

Besides the cons, working in the horse program they do offer accommodations at the Stable facilitating it to get to work on the early show mornings and during winter driving.

I loved working at Spruce Meadows in the summer the atmosphere made it easy to enjoy the work. As well as that everyone was very nice and I loved being outside working enjoying the sunshine and seeing all the excited people made me excited to be there.

The horse program at Spruce Meadows was a great stepping stone to learn the basics of the equine world, and grooming world class horses. Lot's to do in the summer, and for those who work in the horse program get a full benefits package.
