HR manager should quit the job ; HR head is a control freak and abusive to her power ; just a place to work , its LTC home nothing more for a worker . 
I would not recommend , but its a good to try for new grads  to have LTCs experience, just mostly giving meds and emotional stress / burnt out! Well at least now pay rate has been increased and so with responsibility, short staffing is horrendously added stressful they expect to your scope of practice demoted to work as PSW! Unfair treatment!

The hierarchy and the staff in general is really welcoming and well open to all employees.

Sometimes,  but not often,  teams are not collaborative as expected.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
A very inclusive environment with a variety of cultures put together for the same purpose: Holistic care of residents.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Normal and good with all the realities of long term care sector.

Residents and families are great. Patient centred care and all policies are great but they don't care about their workers. Management is horrible, they don't care about you and treat you like a number. Just do what your RN told and you'll be fine. Work can be really stressful. Not seeing an advancement of position as you will have to beat 10 to 20 something year seniority to get full time and benefits. 
Pros:it will build your character, you will come out stronger when you work here 
Cons:dealing with lazy co workers, can be short staffed

I learned a lot working at St Pat's a day there is very quick.  There I enjoyed all the residents.  Management while I was there was not sufficient in many ways.  The Culture was diverse.  The hardest part of the job was not being able to complete all resident's needs. I most enjoyable was seeing the smile on your residents face after toileting or bathing.

The staff find meaning in the work they do with the residents but are constantly battling the attitude of management who treats them like they are cattle and "lesser than".  Many of the managers do not stand up for their staff and do not do anything with the ideas and suggestions proposed by staff.

Giving Support to residents with ADLs, I learned I learned a lot about team work, the management are organized, the staffs are diversified, the tough part of the job loosing the residents sometimes, the most enjoyable part of the job, been an advocate for the residents  and seeing a big smiles on the residents face when you provide care according to their Care Plan

Great place to work however not much fulltime position available . Management needs to focus on promoting team work.  Protocols on patient transfer needs improvement. Management send e-mails reminding everyone about the standard procedure,  however, they also need  to make sure (be strict if necessary) it is being followed to lessen worker's injury.

Very resident oriented. Plenty of opportunity for inservicing, learning job description, and management very supportive in terms of staff knowing their duties if they require more direction in learning. Diverse, supportive staff members in all categories, and the RNs in charge always help as necessary.

Person centred care is for real here! Most  (few exclusions) of the staff have a “team” minded approach. Everyone helps each other to help the residents live their best life here! The management team is super approachable (hard to find that elsewhere) and they genuinely care about all aspects of this home!


I love St. Patricks ! My time in Ottawa was so much fun and I was glad to do my clinical placement at this facility, I wish I did not move back home to Toronto and if I move to Ottawa St. Pat's will definitely be workplace of choice.
