What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part  is that is a small community hospital with alot of heart . It'd one of the best place I've worked icu team was amazing team work is key and communication  snd empowering and wanting the best for each staff  from the top managers are amazing.  I'm do proud and happy to have been part of such and amazing team . My tole came to sn end when I had to relocate but to all those applying yo stthomas elgin hospital . You will not regret I've met some of the best nurses and PSW there are great 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Staffing  issues at time but it's everywhere u work . In those crucial times that's when team work comes in and hood communication and I have to say even under stress teams give 100percent and more 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Culturally it's a growing community with people with loads of yradiyiond and beliefs but management recognize the diversity of the staff and welcome all . We still have ways to go but you will feel at home 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I worked I'm icu as a psw with an amazing team my day is shared with my amazing coworkers from the time you come in you are greeted by the amazing ward clerks  just there warm dmile and hoodmorning sets the pace then report check patients stocking assisting the incredible RN s and doctors

A typical day at work at St. Thomas Elgin General is very busy. You find every department busy during the weekdays. I have learned many things while employed there including the way the Hospital operates and how they treat their employees. The public feels that there are way too many Managers in the hospital and I would have to tend to agree. My coworkers overall are a great team but you will always get a few that don't pull their weight, ,but you will get that anywhere. I don't find anything particularly hard about the position, but there can be some tough patients to get blood from. The most enjoyable part of the job is the satisfaction that I get when I obtain blood for a patient that nobody else can seem to get. I very seldom go back to the lab without the patients blood. I strive every day to get better at my position and I love the interaction with the young to elderly. I am very much patient focused.

Management isn't great and is only available during the day. Feels like the team does more self managing then the manager and they get paid double. Boasts this family oriented environment but is definitely not the case. Everything is for show there as it used to be the worst rated hospital and now is at the top but actually working there and seeing things from the inside I would not trust anything or anyone to be in charge of my care there. At first glance everything looks great but wouldn't let that fool you, there is a lack of training and auditing that needs to be improved there for sure as I find they focus on targeting people they don't like rather than ensuring a safe hospital. They also will rarely call-out for extra help when short and pile on extra work often.

It was sad and unpleasant experienced. 
When I signed my contract, I have all my hopes that I will be a great asset to my new role and to my new home but then it turned  out that the work environment is very stressful,  not welcoming. I felt I was bullied, be littled, and didn't get the proper support that I needed during my training days. (Hearing not so good side comments from tenured coworkers about my learning curve during my training). I felt under valued in so many ways, treated like a child not allowed to talked and just follow what is being told to do.
I wish and hope that this will not happen to anyone,  it's an awful experience.


Hospital registered staff were fantastic, everybody from kitchen staff, custodial staff were all really nice patients, and to each other. Management was not terrific. No drama at the work place, and a really good work environment.

Fast paced, multitasking, time sensitive work day. 
Learned to fine tune work skills to support a variety of Managers.
Management was very supportive with training and resources.
Co-workers were supportive in sharing knowledge.
Hardest part of job was working in a confined office space.
The most enjoyable part of the job were the Managers and Staff. I was able to utilize all my previous office skills and newly acquired job skills from my recent college course.

A day on the acute medical unit where I currently work is a fast paced environment with constant changes taking place, with admission, discharges, appointments etc. I have learned you must be very organized, set priorities, and be accountable. My co-workers are very helpful and hard working individuals. St. Thomas Elgin General is a small community hospital now presently working on a huge expansion project, which will provide better opportunities for employees and of course continue to provide excellent care.

Staff from all depts are very friendly

When you are short staffed or when you get pulled from your dept to work in another dept. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Diverse, friendly, respectful 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy for 12 hours.  Taking care of patients, transporting patients, answering call bells. Assisting nurses.

As title states, management heavy(not only their weight) who spend most of their time in meetings followed by chatting in the halls with their Tim Hortons coffee. This facilities' PRIMARY objective is to push the blessed FOUNDATION to raise money for the "Hospital" which is then allocated to interests of MANAGEMENT not "patient focus" as they use a regular buzzwords. Get on the inside track and you too can enjoy the "Free Ride", if not, be prepared to work your butt off!

Most enjoyable part of working as the Pharmacy secretary was working with multiple documents, manipulating them to be more user friendly and easy to update. As well as creating reports to show medication distribution throughout the Hospital.
