This started as an easy going place to work. 

I gave 2 years of hard dedicated work and was let go because of the silliest of reasons. Management did not give me a chance to rectify the situation that was just a huge misunderstanding to begin with. 

At the interview you are told the company is in the process of getting employee's benefits but they never did in the 2 years I worked there. Also you're told there is room for growth and advancement which is just a down right lie. Trying to get a raise at any time is like pulling teeth and ends with them giving you an employee review that they think is a good time to point out little faults instead of highlighting your many strengths. The review is based on people's opinions that don't even work for the company, some who you've never even met. 

Management can usually be found outside smoking a cigar and they take weeks to get tasks done that should take days. Days to get tasks done that should take hours. 

The delivery trucks are all falling apart and most are so bad that they are unsafe to drive. 

No PPE or consumables that are needed to do your job are provided by the employer. 

Everything is about the bottom line and only the lazy management's opinion of said bottom line matters. One could point out an easy way to save money and it goes in one ear and out the other. It's like they don't appreciate initiative.  

Safety is not important at all with this company. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Standard was always a friendly environment, if you made a mistake instead of being yelled at you were helped to correct it. There were no set times for breaks I always took my breaks when there was a slow in the traffic of parts not when I was busy trying to complete a list of orders.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Honestly I never really got stressed until I had to finish the work of the previous shift on top of my own to insure that all the days orders were fulfilled and loaded on to the delivery trucks

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
As stated before the environment was very friendly and helpful, I was trained on what I didn't know and given credit and appreciation for my work ethic and accomplishments which is rare.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I worked there for 3 years and my daily routine was repetitive I would inspect the parts that would come into my department document them take pictures and prepare them to be loaded for delivery. If there were issues with a product it would be flagged and corrected.

As a delivery driver you are forced to work until your deliveries are done and then drive two hours back to Port Hope during rush hour.  Most days are 10 to 12+ hours a day. Sales people and quality control make a lot of mistakes that cause you to waste a lot of time at customers.  The fleet of trucks they have are constantly breaking down.  They have zero preventive maintenance done on their fleet.  Management is all about the bottom line and will not spend money until something breaks.  The turn over of people is huge.  Most people last a year or two and then quit because of the stress, long hours and lack of management that care about their employees.  

Overall can be a good experience for anyone an there are awesome people to work with an meet threw out the whole place but management has favourites threw out the work place an treat them selfs an higher up people with alot more respect an work benefits from the rest of the team. With management you have to watch your back unfortunately bc if your not liked they’ll try an have you terminated unfortunately I seen it with lots while working there an had bad experiences my self 

Management is not management just people who worked there long enough to be called managers they have no clue what it takes to manage anything can't speak to employees properly  HR in Scarborough will roll back your time worked stealing from employees who try to earn a living she gives HR a bad name  HR in Port Hope location from what I hear should be running the company fair consistent educated 
New warehouse manager former sales manager is a joke nothing but a big bully to everyone.  it's a shame because the people you work with are great just need great leaders not just old recycled staff

I have been an employee of Standard Auto Wreckers since 2015. I started in the buying department working on data entry and have worked my way up through the company. I have learned so much, not just about vehicles in general but also how the automotive recycling industry works and is better for our environment. Most of the senior staff started low in the company and have all worked their way up and continued employment with the company which indicates this is a career not just a job. If your thinking about working in the auto industry – this is a great job to have! 

This company is not the best organized in the higher ups as it should be.  This company is not a good company to work for.

When I started working there it was great because I needed a job but the minute I started taking too much to the part manager, the boss did not like this and ended my time there very quickly by letting me go with the help of the Human Resource Officer that had never met me before.

The whole thing was per-planned and it was a horrible way to deal with employees.  They have no proper way of working well with their employees.

Absolutely the most disgusting, vile workplace ever encountered. It starts at the top! Manager meetings every day and your top management comes in shorts and ball caps. Absolutely no professionalism from sales manager or general manager. Great accounting manager but she stopped going to meetings because no one worked as a team. Always trying to find fault instead of working as a team. This group of children need to grow up so the company can grow itself. Stay away at all costs!!

I lasted 3wks doing deliveries to Toronto. My day started at 7am and my day ended typically around 6:30 to 7:00pm. For 17.00 an hour and no benefits it wasn't worth it. I was burned out. My co workers were great and management were good but unfortunately they are short drivers but nothing will change until they make it worthwhile by higher wages and benefits. Right now they pay overtime on anything over 50hrs and im sorry but that just isnt good enough

I have worked with Standard on and off since 2014. I have worked in multiple departments and 2 of their locations. They have consistent work hours and room for advancement. Working at Standard is more like a family than just a team. Management understands personal situations can sometimes interrupt a work/life balance and will work with you. Even with leaving once for a personal situation, they allowed me to return to the company and work for them again.
