Enjoyed my time at SMUN. Unfortunately, my health wouldn't hold up for the very fast paced abundance of needs required by the clients.  Only part was no protection for staff over clients that became hostile ie. service restrictions. Clients not held accountable enough for their actions.  
Work load is extreme as their is such a real need for support workers in this area of Social Services.  Director & the rest of management are very caring and supportive of staff.  
Supervisors were all down to earth and let you do your job. Staff meeting every Wednesday along with training whenever needed.  The absolute nice thing about working at SMUN was that there was very little gossip about other staff which is very hard to find a job in Social Services without negative  gossip going on.  SMUN does an amazing job with all of their programs and is well recognized within St. Catharines.  SMUN was out growing the building when I left but other opportunities were being looked at by management.   As any social Services job, the wage could be higher for the work you do but they are limited to a budget.  Best place in my 21 years of social Services I have ever been apart of.

It can be challenging when management is not aware or chooses not to work through conflict in their workplace. 
This situation presented challenges that did not allow for a productive work environment. Management turned away from workplace conflict and did not offer solutions to the issues that continued to occur.
Workplace culture suggests a friendly accepting workplace which was the case for the clientele served by the company but did not always extend to the employees.
I learned that it is very important to consider what can be done about conflict in the workplace or it may become harassment in the workplace that ends up in loss of trained and helpful employees.

As a student assisting the case managers, my typical day included reviewing procedures, shadowing and learning about documentation requirement. It seemed as though the workplace culture was better for those in a well off spot already, rather than for those just starting off. However, the staff was very supportive and personable. The hardest part of the job was managing my work-life balance. The most enjoyable parts of the job were being given creative liberty to work on presentations and help with local events.

One of the best places I have ever had the pkeasure of workibg at. The owners are amazing people abd truly invested. The staff is a dynamic team and tge participants becone part of who you are. If you want to make a difference (without expecting a big parade or a pat on the back), then this is the place to work. AMAZING!

I loved working with the people/team there and I knew what was expected of me.  I enjoyed helping people.  I arrived on time to be learning all the kitchen skills necessary to work in their kitchen.  I was difficult to leave this position, but I was glad for the experience and grateful for all I have learned.

Working for any organization is not to make money only, is to make the organization beneficial of my quality and make clients happy and satisfied . 

Working hard is not only to come home for a pay cheques, but is to result how much I helped to help the clients and how benefit I was for the organization.

The clients and coworkers are amazing. Management was not good… High turnover each year to say the least. It is still worth applying to work with the clients, however know  the limits of what you can put up with. 
 

Well I only volunteered there for a while but when I was there it was a great place to gain experience as I got lots of help from team members when I asked I gained some great dinner skills as I served food cleaned and much more start me up is a great place and if you get the time you should check out there site.

Treated unfairly by co-workers. Boss did nothing about it and the Executive Director did not help either. There is no support by management when there should be in this type of job.
