I was hired as a student and it was agreed that I would be under supervision and training for my first 100 hours (my school would reimburse the first 200 hours so it’s not like they were really paying two people for a one-person job). On my very first day, I was scheduled for outside of my availability (what happened to flexible schedule?) and was scheduled to work ALONE with a client for 8 hours on my first day. I told them I wasn’t comfortable, as I’d NEVER been with a client before and i needed training. They made me feel bad and said they “thought I could handle it” and told me it’s ok and to go home. The next day they scheduled me during a doctors appointment they were aware of and then after that they ignored me for 36 hours before texting me at 7:30 to tell me to be there for 10. I explained to the OWNER every little detail of my experience to that point and he told me that I have too high of expectations for how an employer is supposed to support me and told me I’ll see that as I continue to find a new employer.  So unprofessional. They provided me with ZERO training and felt like I was expecting too much when I asked for it, even though it was already agreed upon before I was even hired. The manager apologized to me but the owner is horrid. 

Compensation is horrible for field staff and management, not a livable wage. Upper management chooses who they like and has massive favourtism. Expected to work outside work hours with no extra compensation. Feels like a  revolving door of management and field workers as barely any training is provided. Expectations and goals are set for each job position however they will not adjust when 1 out of 5 staff members with the same job have twice the workload so they will leave that staff member to stuggle and when they ask for help they are ignored and just add more work tasks without any support in place. Toxic environment, unable to trust anyone. HR in hamilton office takes weeks to months to finish any paperwork or task you ask for (eg forms, employment letters, new staff). Overworked office staff with no reliable support.Upper management is extreamly unprofessional when posting jobs when the job is not actually vacant and the current worker found the post before being let go. Upper management tries to tell you you cant talk to former workers or reach out to current workers after you are no longer working there. 

This place is a revolving door. While it is a newer company, they have so many projects that never come to fruition because they are doing too many things at once without hiring staff or investing in the current employees. If an employee makes a mistake or rubs management the wrong way, you’re out with a vague termination letter. However, the toxicity runs high because when management needs shifts filled and covered, they know how to call those same employees. 
Management will terminate other management without notice to their staff.

HR will defend certain employees and then terminate others for the same reason she defended others. It’s so inconsistent. 

This job is a good example of how management can destroy a workplace. I was happy here originally. Getting to care for people in the comfort of their own homes is enjoyable for me because the clients are much happier being cared for in their home rather than in a hospital. Back in July, I had a change in management and now work for a new Care Manager and the change has been terrible. She treats me poorly to the point where I don't feel appreciated or respected at all and I've spoken to several other nurses on the same roster who feel the same way. Good luck voicing your concerns because it goes nowhere here and now I am looking for new employment.

I have been working for Stay At Home Nursing Services for about 3 months now.
I am very happy there.  SAHN is very flexible in scheduling me with as many shifts as I can handle.  They pay for your milage and I have found the compensation to be very fair.
The client's we have are very diverse and they are all very greatful and gracious for the care that they receive.
Any conflicts are handled very fairly and rapidly. 
SAHN offers training programs that will help you to increase your hourly wage.  You are also compensated based on your experience as well.

Great team of staff working both from office and in the community. Staff are very hardworking and dedicated to their jobs. Management works as a team focusing on delivering evidence based client centred care. 

The company offers great resources for those struggling with mental/ physical health, and financial stress.

The company also offers a wide variety of step by step guides for evidence- based nursing and psw skills. 

Management is flexible with hours of availability, there’s benefits for full-time employees and the job is overall enjoyable. However, hourly pay is not very competitive, and you do not get paid mileage for driving to/from clients or driving between clients unless they are 10+km apart, which is not often. I enjoy the job and the flexibility but gas gets expensive since you are paying out of pocket a lot of the time.

The Owner expects way too much from staff and will fire you right away if you disagree with him. The turn over rate is every couple months if that due to owners behaviour. If you get the job ask how long the other staff have been their majority will say only a few months and some may say just hired. No one is there more then a year and you will quickly find out why.

The most enjoyable part of the job was working with the PSW colleagues and the clients.
The hardest part of the job was the district and care managers for our area.  
Management has poor problem-solving skills or doesn't care too
Habitually sending a one PSW to two-person care.
