I have been working at Steelcon as a Material Handler and my overall experience has been positive. The company provides a stable work environment with clear processes in place, and safety is always emphasized, which I really appreciate in an industrial setting.

The team I work with is supportive, and communication with supervisors is straightforward. Management ensures that tasks are explained clearly, and there is usually someone available to help if you run into challenges. The work can be physically demanding at times, but it feels rewarding to be part of a team that contributes directly to the company’s projects.

One of the strengths of Steelcon is its focus on teamwork and efficiency. Everyone is expected to pull their weight, and that builds a sense of discipline and accountability. Another positive aspect is that the company is willing to support employees with documentation and processes, which shows they care about long-term growth.

Like many industrial jobs, the work schedule can be tight and sometimes requires extra effort to keep up with production needs. However, if you are hardworking and committed, Steelcon is a solid place to build experience and grow your skills.

Overall: A reliable company to work for, especially if you are looking for hands-on industrial experience in a structured and safety-focused environment.



In my personal experience, working for Steelcon was challenging. There seemed to be inconsistencies in supervision and attitudes that negatively affected the work environment. I felt that job security and compensation were areas of concern. Observing the owner arriving in a luxury car and the shop lead in a new truck, while employee raises were minimal, was disheartening.

It was also notable that the HR and safety officer positions were terminated within a short period, followed by a significant reduction in staff. Based on my observations, the shop might benefit from union representation to improve conditions for employees.


Do not believe the recent positive reviews, they are obviously asking current employees to write positive reviews to help their rating 

Although there is context to claim, “room for advancement”, you could be expertly certified in several aspects of a trade industry and you will not be successful here. They throw immense list of standards and expectations at people however once that’s delivered in full force their a sad little company totally unprepared to deal with it. They build falsely entrusting relationships as trial and error to build their company while it’s clear to see why experienced people do not work there. As much as they manipulate management into thinking they need to be on their toes because every employee is brand new, it’s really the company as a whole and nobody is experienced enough to handle more than they deem fit to hand out.  

Quite a few people work there because they are well-connected to decision-making personnel or the company's owners. 
The shop personnel are very disorganized, and the project supervisors are expected to pick up the slack and almost act as delivery staff, bringing bolts and missing steel to project sites that the shop forgot to send.
The company has a great marketing operation that wants to appear highly professional and organized and is a great place where one can grow with the company, but during my work period, this was not what I saw. 
Do not be surprised to be called to the office and be dismissed on the spot with no previous warnings or feedback. 
Review your offer letter with a lawyer and beware of their sneaky clauses.


A typical day at this company is you come in get yelled at for something you didn't do then you wait 1 hour to be instructed on what the project of the day is. Probably the worst management I've ever been around each manager tells you a different answer when you ask a question. Absolutely zero job security even if you work super hard. the one nice thing is that you only work 4 days a week. The plant has about 70 workers on the floor but they don't provide a lunch room so you have to eat your food in your car or find somewhere to sit on the floor. Lastly they don't provide soap in the bathrooms so you can't clean your hands all day when your working a 12 hour shift .

I worked on the joist division at steelcon. Even though I had my CWB welding tickets and welded every single day they had my paid under material handler to under pay me. I also got repremanded infront of the whole shop for providing water bottles water to the crew when the new shop in Welland had horrible tap water to drink. It's a very toxic workplace where management will yell, repremand or fire you before providing proper training or advancement. 

Poor communication throughout the company. Constructive feedbacks towards improvement are absolutely not welcomed if against the will of the owners. Conflicts of interest throughout the higher management (family members and long-term friends running the show). The only nice thing to say is that I do respect one of the owner's vision.

A typical day at work for my position involves a mix of challenging problem solving and designing and occasional site visits to coordinate with contractors.  I have learned a great deal about the fabrication side of the construction industry.  Management, supervisors, co-workers, and the workplace general culture has been very inviting and helpful.  Projects are interesting and challenging, albeit stressful at times due to the nature of construction schedules.  But at the end of the day is is satisfying to see a completed construction project.

Horrible place to work on terms of being a driver.

- Disorganized, Nobody ever has any idea of what's going on from one shop to another

- Everything is always a rush, and then you get to site/other shops and they never have any idea that it was ever coming

- Expects delivery/pick up locations to drop everything for them and immediately offload/load you 

- anywhere from 10-85 different phone calls from 8 different people when shunting 

- expects you to drop what your doing to answer the phone immediately

All around probably the worse place and most disorganized place  i have ever worked
