Stelco Steel

This plant has come under such scrutiny in the past 20 years.  Once, a leader in the North American Steel Industry it has been plagued with mismanagement for many years.
In the last years where it was known Stelco the management team neglected to look further then the next week's planning and that started the failure of the strategies that were to keep the business afloat.  Through the first CCAA and the move to Hamilton Steel the players in senior management again put the wrong foot forward and more like worried about their own pocket books for the short stint than they did the progression of the plant.
Next came the purchase of USS and the massive changes that shut down numerous facets of the plant  and subsequent dispersing of union and management staff alike.  There was no mistaking the direction that USS wanted follow.  Move production of the facility to their plants in the US, refuse to abide by Canadian Law and contract and as it is now obvious, shut the plant down leaving tens of thousands of Canadians with work, pensions or benefits.
This is the fault of whom?

Stelco is a company primarily made up of people who thrive on politics and throwing people under the bus. The management is an absolute circus and are given positions by either making up imaginary positions and by default. Most recently it has become a company that has lost all morales and treats employees like trash. It’s full of entitled unskilled labor and is facing a strike due to these people being employed there.  Avoid this company at all costs. It is a waste of your time and life to invest even a minute with this company. I am a tradesman within this company and am now facing job loss due to the majority vote cast by unskilled labourers. The only company in over 20 years in the trades that has its future dictated by labourers. There is zero recognition for the workers and the only time you are recognized is if you make a mistake and can be reprimanded for it. 

Don't bother coming here! The Proffitt sharing has just started paying out. Any of the old creative book keeping from the past and it's gone again. Wages are low for maintenance personnel! No chiropractic, very basic benefits. It's a revolving door of staff, so you can never control your schedule. Crazy dirty! Our vehicles are clean on Monday morning, Monday night drive home they look like you went on an off road adventure. 

Every day was different as I was an apprentice Millwright had alot of support.
I learned how unions and mgt work together to keep everyone happy, which will increase productivity.

.company sent me to school 1 day a week to get my ticket.

After I year I started to be accepted in the maintience group which gave me confidence and new relationships along with trust to send me on a job alone

Working as an Application Analyst at Stelco was an enriching experience where I gained valuable skills in both technical and business aspects of software development. I collaborated closely with internal teams to analyze and improve software solutions, primarily focusing on enhancing user efficiency and resolving system issues. I worked on automating processes, maintaining databases, and ensuring smooth software operations. 

Over 30 years in a place where the union and company fought. Put out on the street for 3  months because they needed to fix things. Refused to accept us working until a contract was reached. Brought us back at the same price we asked for in the first place. Acres of reclaimed land from dumping scrap , slag  and anything they couldn't get rid of. Someone should check to see what's buried there.

I enjoyed my 36 years at Stelco / USSC . I would still be there but the organization has had to reduce the  salary work force due to the current economic conditions in the steel market .
I along with 175 others were offered a severance package and retired .

I worked in shipping for almost 20yrs. This was a very responsible
job. For you had to make sure the product was worth sending,an not rusty or damaged.

I worked for Stelco for over 38 years, and retired with the company. I would not have stayed this long if the company was not good to work for. No axe to grind and very appreciative of a good pension and livelihood for me and my family.

good bosses, racist co workers, change and lunch facilities were terrible...housekeeping in the plant was atrocious, many arguments and even fist fights among workers,  substance abuse present among workers
