At first glance this seems like an easy job, and it does have its benefits. Paid breaks, free meal and gelato, all the coffee you can drink, lots of hours. Scooping gelato and making coffee drinks is simple and the tips are a nice addition to wage. And the owner seems sweet as can be when you first meet her.
The trouble begins when you have to deal with the owner or her husband. Need something fixed? call her husband and don't expect anything more than duct tape as a solution.
Feeling sick? sick enough to go to the hospital or get a doctors note? The owner will tell you to get the shift covered or show up, she'd rather have a server with a fever than have an employee out sick. Call in sick to your shift? expect an email telling you how awful an employee you are or if you're lucky she'll scream at you over the phone.
Make a simple mistake? If it gets back to her you'll get a phone call at work and she'll scream at you over the phone.
Want to have a life outside of work in the summer? She expects everyone to put her business first even when she treats them like garbage.
Expect snide, condescending and passive agressive emails.
Expect the shedule to be remade multiple times a week as people quit.
When people give their two weeks she'll remove them entirely from the schedul, making the remaining staff short-staffed.
Watch out for the staff than turn to her with any shred of gossip they can manufacture to make others look bad.

This is a growing business so there are lots of changes being implemented on a weekly basis (as well as lots of covid changes).

The management is strict but friendly. In the summers it is one of the fastest-paced environments you’ll work at (line ups down the street and around the corner). It means the time passes quickly but also a lot of turnaround since a lot of people don’t know what they are getting into. 

Lots of face time with the owners and upper level management. My colleagues who have been there for a while are the sweetest people you’ll meet. 

Because the business is growing sometimes things can be a little chaotic. You really need to be a self-started and self-motivator. Management expects a high level of work ethic, and recognizes hard work but if you sit around twiddling your thumbs you may get an earful.

When you are loyal and hard working, the owners acknowledge you (bonuses, paid time off, frequent raises)

This family owed business takes care of its staff, treats them with kindness and empathy, pays them well, offers health and dental benefits to full time staff, gives paid breaks and free food and grocery discounts, is flexible about schedules, makes sure the tips are shared with the kitchen staff and always has your back if you have a problem.. Any drama created is by the staff themselves. So frustrating to see a small minority use this as a platform for hate. If you were lazy and sucked at your job or if you disrespected your collegues then you got fired. That is called the real world children.

Much better than most jobs ive had. Good pay and benefits. Decent tips. Your ideas and suggestions are taken to heart by the management. its not a job for lazy people but if you like to be kept busy then this is your place. I was always respected and listened to. they go out of there way to make sure the schedule fits yours. I loved the customers and the people i worked with. I read the other review about this place and they should be reported - NOT TRUE AT ALL. One things is true and that is if you disrespect ANYONE on the staff the management takes it very seriously. i only left because i moved out of Ottawa.

Stella Luna is a great place to work. Really good environment and is fast-paced. Not a place to stay around doing nothing. All employees are hardworking. The bussines has high standards in product quality and customer service. 

It's a family-owned business where we have contact with owners and managers. All of them are very open to listening and very charismatic. Everyone gets treated very well and respectfully. 

They pay their employees very fairly, and tips are a great complement. Higher than in previous jobs I had. We get paid breaks and lunch. 

Great place to work! 

Fast paced job in a busy coffee/gelato shop.  I worked there for 3 years and it was better than most jobs my friends had. the people i worked with likeminded and enjoyed the fast pace. you have to be a multitasker cuz the shop gets very busy in the summer. the owners were always available to answer questions and help out. the tips are decent and are split evenly between the kitchen and the front staff. i usually got about $5 an hour more than my regular pay in tips. 

Stella Luna is a lovely and social place to work. Although employees must be prepared for hard work and a fast paced-often stressful-environment. The other staff members are fun and talkative. It is an ideal job for students as the management is family-based and sensitive to school work and exam schedules. The gelato cafe is out of control busy during the summer months so be ready for some long, hot, sweet days.

I enjoyed working at Stella Luna. The people were kind, the work was fast paced so I was never bored, the pay was good, the tips were great. I don't agree with the negative comments some people have posted. I never had any problems and stayed for 3 years until I graduated and moved away. You have to realize that coffee shops attract a younger team so youre always going to have some drama between staff. 

Solid job in a family owned business. Lots of direct contact with the owners who gave me a lot of support and listened to my ideas. I got paid more than my friends at other coffee shops and the tips were decent especially in the summer. Not a lot of room for advancement beyond becoming  a supervisor unless you work full time.
