Sterling Crane

My hiring manager was the reason for me going there. He was the bright spot of the organization. It's too bad though that there was so many other bad apples and toxic personalities to work with which killed enthusiasm. The old boys club at HQ was a barrier to advancement. 

The company is private equity owned and very risk adverse. They will not grow or match competitors. Many operations issues caused higher costs of business and a resulting loss of sales vs competition. 

On the wrong side of history regarding Covid vx. Used coercion to get people to take it. 

Overall, good pay but not a long term career choice.

I was the dispatcher with this company in the Calgary branch.  Great group of guys, good management and excellent treatment of employees all around.  I true privilege to work for.  The only downfall was being laid off due to the economic downturn in Alberta.  The company has strong ties to the oil industry and when it fell, unfortunately the company had to make cuts and I was just one of them.  But so were tens of thousands of people in Alberta.  If an opportunity can again I would work for this company again.

The regional vice president at this company did not value my time dedicated to sterling crane and I was disappointed with way I was treated. After a year of hard work I was brushed off.

Best part: Salary was good and benefits 
Had freedom in the job, no real pressure to work hard

Cons: the work load. They expected me to do 2 to 3 peoples work load and didn't replace employees who left to give me back up.
The regional vice president in charge really has no clue what he's doing and should be replaced with someone who understands the crane rental business in canada. 

Management keep looking for your new top guy this ones a joke.

Company is committed to promoting from within. In IT, they ask where you would like to grow so telling them lets them give you the training you need to up. They are part of an enterprise-scale organization, which gives opportunities for internal growth. The company's ownership structure is worth looking up to see the bigger picture. Company's senior people are motivated to make the lives of their people better by providing excellent support. It's a busy environment in IT to work in but the managers work with you closely so it is good tha way. IT leads and team have a strong working relationship.

People. Coworkers and formans and management. Cliques at all.levels

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Horrible, regardless of your wirk ethics, if you're not their friend, your just a number

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful. Like a reality show, trying to play the social game.

Folks at Sterling Crane have been overwhelmed with policies, procedures and work apps that don't benefits the employees. Policies and programs written from a corporate office, and not from the field (employees) that complete the work. With all the inefficiencies the Company wastes they struggle to grow in the crane market because there unwilling  to diversify the products and services they sell. Not to mention the sales team that gets paid handsomely and pull's in little business for the Ontario Branches.

Seriously I do love operating cranes and I was given opportunity to challenge bigger cranes and work alongside some very knowledgeable people .I have respect for the people there..I sometimes worked on a project each day and other times I would get dispatched to different sites with whatever crane that was required. Other times I would be with a team assembling monster cranes. It was an awesome opportunity to learn so much every day and everyone was happy to share their knowledge. 

Great place to work when there's work. When it's slow good luck feeding your family. They try, but a person needs to make a minimum amount to pay their bills. If you want to keep the cream of the crop you better act like you care about their business as well. " Their families".

I worked at the YMM branch as the lead branch administrator, the atmosphere was great , the branch staff were very friendly and great to work with .  The only problem was that the work load was wasn’t fairly compensated for. You wear the hats of 4 employees in this role which is stressful.. if sterling could re-evaluate that position and adjust the salary then I could have seen myself there for years to come. 

Save yourself the agony - look elsewhere  The uppers don’t care about the field staff  
While there are many great employees here that are super supportive the upper management knows what to say but needs to follow through with actions  lots of procedures and policies but no one seems to adhere to
