Sterling Homes

This is not the Sterling Homes that it used to be in the 2010s. This is mainly due to weak or the lack of leadership right from the sales director trickling down to their "sales manager"  (who was a marketing coordinator) and some area managers. They have no direction to give to the sales team. As a salesperson, you might be thinking with Sterling's high inventory, you might do well. Think again! They are going the realtor route due to the weak leadership issues of not being able to answer questions and handle good sales people, do their answer is to give their inventory to realtors who are hungry for listings and hope to get sales.
Favoritism is as clear as daylight at this organization and all employees are aware of it but can't do anything because they fear for their jobs. Certain employees who were assistants to the people who are now in a position of power are favored despite being some of the most mediocre sales people you will come across in the industry. There's many better builders out there with non- toxic environments that you could join and do well both financially and mental health wise. Avoid this gongshow. 

Edmonton location. You will have zero work-life balance, no say in decisions, ridiculed in front of your coworkers in a 3-4 hour mandatory unpaid meeting. You have set hours but there are no boundaries and you will be expected to work outside of those hours mostly for unpaid time. They have no boundaries what so ever. The product lacks value comparatively in the marketplace. They over promise in your interview and under deliver. Just ask how many sales assistants have lasted in their position more than 4 months. HIGH Turn over, if you make it to your multiple interviews after sending them a VIDYARD first so they can pre-judge you based on your looks you will then have to wait at least a month before starting and given no formal training. Also expect them to ask for a college degree to be a sales assistant for $18-$20 an hour. I could go on but I think you get the point.  Save yourself the emotional damage and find a job elsewhere.

Great Place to Work, Amazing Work Culture but Lacks Work Life Balance and Support. 

High Stress, Face Paced and Not for everyone. There is definitely a lack of work life balance and its up to you to figure out how to deal with it. There is lack of support for the employees. If you are going to work here - expect to stay but advancement is limited. That said, your job is valued and you will be an essential part of the company hence the amazing work culture. 

Try your best and always work hard, you will stand out. Once again, lacks work-life balance, just too bad.

I started out as a hostess, with Sterling Homes, and learned a lot about the new home industry within a short amount of time.  I was offered the Area Manager Position.  However, when the economy went down hill, they were not able to build into the up and coming subdivisions.  I was ready for the Area Manager Position, and I was headhunted by Cameron Homes.

Unfortunately new home sales were slow when I was working in the industry. There were many long days with little to no activity. I enjoyed finding make work activities but unfortunately in an industry where your salary is directly impacted by commission I had to take an alternative career path.

I've learned a lot about the new home buying process and new home construction. Most of the staff is friendly and very helpful. 

The hours can be quite frustrating as it is evenings and every weekend. It can get in the way of you living a regular lifestyle.

Management changes can change the whole dynamic of a company and this company has become more interested in numbers than in their employees.  Benefits could also be better for such a large company.

Work never truly stops even after working show home hours. Be prepared to answer phone calls from morning till night seven days a week and your pay will depend on your experience and on the manager you have. 

I was a production drafter at this employer for nearly 4 years. There is little room for advancement with this empoyer. They did not offer any educational opportunities
