Stripped Wax Bar

I’ve worked in the esthetics industry for 9 years now and in different provinces. It’s no secret that it’s a cut throat industry with little forgiveness. I was nervous about this company because of previous bad reviews I read on here and I’ve come to learn they were not true. This is the first team I’ve ever worked with where I’ve consistently had supportive coworkers who come to do their job and help teammates out. There’s no competition for tips or clientele as appointments are spread out fairly evenly. I understand for some who are new to the industry, it can seem different, but I assure you this is a very healthy environment. 
Some might complain about the wages, but in all honesty you truly do make up for it in tips… averaging from $500-1400 a month.
You also receive on the job training to fine tune your waxing skills, as they don’t really teach these things in school.   

Started out as a fun job but quickly became aware of issues with Management. Reprimanded for being sick - they started a Health Rewards program to encourage staff to work while sick with no regards to clients or coworkers. Meetings with HR and upper management when you ask for compensation to be increased during annual reviews and often denied even though waxers are working 9 hours a day and bringing in $150/hour. Long term staff are paid $1-3 more than brand new staff. Some making less than receptionists because they say our tips should be enough. Long weekends off isn't actually the case as it is mandatory to work the Saturday and most staff already take the Monday off. So it works out to be just like your regular days off. Long waits to hear from Head office as they often wait till the last minute to reply but expect immediate replies when they contact staff. Seen many staff pushed out because they don't fit the stripped mold. 

Waxers were expected to work 9 hour days to compensate for the full time 4 day work week. Everyone was expected to work Saturdays, unless you gained enough seniority to have that day off which doesn’t make sense to have long weekends off. Parking for this specific location, employees had to pay out of pocket for as well.  Management was also pretty bad as well, they expected immediate replies but took forever to reply back to you. Training days were around a couple days or a week depending on your experience and wasn’t very thorough and they expected you on your own the floor right away. Employees were also very cliquey with each other as well. Wouldn’t recommend.

Some of the girls are so stand-offish and mean, some will bully you behind your back, they will talk about you if you're not up to "their standards" there's no grace for coming in new and learning the system.

A lot won't help our because that's not "their job", and then complain when it's not done. There's no sense of comradery, some locations have a very selfish mindset and it's hard to make coworker relationships. 

It's almost expected that you'll pick up shifts at all the other salon locations, and the staff is so barebones that they can get desperate for coverage.

I would rate 0 stars if possible. Do not ignore red flags.


I work mainly as an on call receptionist and pick up shifts across all locations when they become available. This is great because I have a very busy life juggling with school and sports an I can essentially make up my own schedule. Management is very  helpful and accommodating if I need a change in my schedule and they are always online during the work day to help with any problems that might arise during the day. All coworkers have been very helpful since I’ve worked as a receptionist. Stripped has been an awesome place to work at and make money as I save up for school. 

The employees at Stripped are constantly talking badly about their customers and other coworkers. The management team insists that they want to see their employees grow in the company but never offer the opportunity to do so. The pay is quite terrible, especially considering all the aestheticians have had to go to school and become registered in order to complete services. Don’t expect to get many shifts. There are many things wrong within the company and management refuses to acknowledge it. 

I’ve never worked as a receptionist anywhere before this job. Everything was easy to pick up and learn. Anytime I asked for help all my questions were answered and I never felt lost.  Management here is amazing and I’ve never had a job where they cared so much about the employees  happiness. There is also a sense of pride with this job as well because customers always leave happy and everyone tries their best. So far everything has been great. I plan on staying with this company in the future.

Amazing owners who appreciate their staff and are accommodating 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some staff can be lazy and not contribute with cleaning duties 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Friendly, accepting and none stressful which is a plus 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Straight forward, and rewarding. Most days are busy with clients and if not you get to relocate to another location that needs help. Theres always something to do in each location

The girls I worked with at the salon were all so great and very supportive but my cutoff point was how the front end does not get enough credit for what we do and what we deal with. I felt there was some favouritism upon employees across all salons which isn’t professional for a work environment. There is no where to grow here even if they say otherwise. I met great people but ultimately didn’t feel respected enough to stay and the pay wasn’t great. 

I'm super happy working for Stripped Wax Bar and here's just a few reasons why;
Its flexible, work as little or as much as you want = OT, stat pay, double time, CASH TIPS !!! Coworkers are awesome, helpful and now are some of my closest friends. The leads are such great teachers, learn all the tricks - we are number one! Work is actually fun!
Management is always there if you need them. They acknowledge all your hard work. = PARTIES and annual raises!! There's so much more, what are you waiting for??
