- Good people, but this is highly dependent on team

Cons:
- Average Salary, Average Benefits
- Reactive instead of proactive. Company is a laggard in the industry. If it continues to fail to embrace innovation across its vehicles, internal processes and HR policies, employees and consumers will flock to other brands.
- Old boys club in upper management preventing upward mobility and fresh ideas, with heavy Japanese influence on decision making.
- People who hold "manager" titles shouldn't. They don't know what it takes to be a good manager or leader of people.
- Departments are severely understaffed placing high amounts of pressure on departments and employees
- Vacation days are limited and the vacation policy is highly inflexible 
- Hardheaded Japanese traditions influence the HR Policy negatively. 
- Poor manager/employee leadership development - would rather replace than train
- Relatively flat organizational structure results in little to no career progression
- Employees viewed as expendable 
- Lack of transparent communication of objectives
- Poor support/training given to new employees

I work at corporate, and the executive and upper management are very understanding and by the numbers type (they base decision on facts and research). They also genuinely show care for their staff and environment. The facility is so well managed from an environmental point of view that I was honestly shocked by how invested they are compared to other companies I've worked at. 

During covid they showed great care for staffs mental health providing seminars, exercise opportunities via web, various things to encourage strong mental health since remote working can be very isolating for some.

They take great care in following laws and procedures, have a variety of tools available to staff to help workflow improvements. 

Overall it's just been a great time at Subaru.

Great team with many long term employees. Very relaxed environment and every work day ends at 5pm. Work / life balance and family time is highly regarded here.

They have been consistently performing well and have reasonable expectations for growth. As a result you won't be killing yourself every month to get to the next achievement level.  Slow and steady wins the race here.

The ironic drawback to Subaru is that with all of the long term employees and a very flat organization, you might be waiting years before moving up the ladder.

If you are looking to stay at the same position for long time then work here.
Executives are a joke... they do not listen to anyone.
Employees are only promoted if they do not find anyone else from outside.
Too many employee were laid off in the past 4 years for no real reason other than disagreement with management.
HR is NON-Existent, hopefully the real HR manager comes back for mat leave because right now its CHAOS.

During my time at Subaru, everyday was up and down. Interactions with customers were great and I enjoyed most days there. However, the sales managers ruined every customers experience. That was a huge letdown when building customer rapport and then having it go to nothing. Being too pushy is not a quality most enjoy, and it shows in their Google reviews. The only upside for them is an excellent General Manager who took initiative and made positive impacts for the dealership.

On a daily basis working for Subaru Canada Inc., I would answer calls, emails, faxes, and mail from clients throughout Canada. 
Working for Subaru I've learned several different elements regarding the automotive industry, as well as warranty and recall related work.

Working with several departments within Subaru Canada, you quickly learn that all the management is extremely kind and supportive.

People would work without interruption. You could enjoy working other employees. 
A downside was power lunch. 
Lunch room was on the floor of parts.

I worked in Ontario the summer after I finished a year of school in Abbotsford, British Columbia. The car dealerships were always my favourite, mainly because I got to work with what I know best--vehicles. 
I only worked there for a short time, as I was travelling in the area and other places, and needed money to go back to Alberta when the summer was finished.

The people at Subaru are amazing. Need to have a change in upper management to allow for a change in the demographics of the business. Old school thinking blocks true production. Miss the people but not the politics....
