This non-profit organization opens opportunities for both the children attending the program and mentors.

Being a mentor is not just a position, it's a lifetime family commitment that ensures the development and growth of our youth. We as mentors and staff are here to support and educate the youth, leading them to be leaders. 
Being a mentor is a crucial part of our organization. We follow a graduate model of 

mentee > volunteer > mentor > mentor coordinator > staff 

Being a mentor holds many responsibilities such as: leading by example, connecting with mentees (the students), and providing academic and social support. 

Mentees look up the the mentors, especially when they connect well with each other. Most mentees who are apart of our program stated they would like to become a mentor. Therefore it is also crucial that the mentors lead by position example.
 
High school is a completely different verse middle school. During high school students experience things that didn't occur in middle school, failure, different social crowds, and academic vs applied. High school is a place where you are expected to start your life path. We as mentors as well provide that support. I for one understand that not everyone will find their career path in grade nine. 

We as mentors connect with our mentees and keep a valuable relationship with them for a lifetime.
Social work is not a 9-5 job. And I love that. Mentors are here to support our mentees 24/7 with anything, boy problems, school work, or even if they just want to chat

My experience as a mentor has been phenomenal. I witnessed my past mentees grow, I've watched myself mature over the years, and I've been apart of some amazing discussions with the mentees and staff. We all educate each other in different aspects.
I've had a chance to connect with amazing people and watch our talented youth showcase their talent. 
I went from a volunteer to a mentor. And hopefully in the future I hope to work my way up. I've witnessed mentees who didn't believe in themselves to them gaining self confidence. I'm glad I'm in a position where I can allow students to see the full potential and I hope that SBL will continue to have an impact on all of us.

Morning: For 6 weeks, mentors should be at 1 out of the 3 bus locations by 8am
Attendance should be taken by 8:20am
Bus leaves at 8:30am
We arrive at the SBL summer location and have breakfast and then gather in for announcements and lead the students into each of their classes for academics with their homeroom SBL teacher.
Mentors are assisting students in math, language, and the hip hop curriculum.
 
Afternoon: Students, Teachers and Mentors have served lunch and students, mentors and teachers are sitting with their classes getting to know one another and then when everyone is finished we are  building relationships with each other out of 100 students, 20 mentors and 10 teachers. Students then get into their afternoon groups with six of their mentors and activities include, swimming, samba, art, drama, dance, baseball field, indoor gym, outdoor basketball court and etc. 

Around 3:30 we rap up our activities and lead the children back to the SBL locations where we do afternoon announcements. By 4:00 students are sent to their morning buses and attendance is taken and then we are off to the morning locations.

Fridays: SBL goes on different trips such as, go-karting, rollerskating, lasertag, wild water kingdom, indoor wave pool and etc. This is the best opportunity where the whole camp can bond together

Typical day would be tutoring students in the morning in a classroom and then providing lunch. after lunch, mentors would set up activities for the student to do. Later on, entire camp will meet together and have final thoughts of the days and mentors take children back to designated areas for their parents to pick them up. I have learn a lot of skills in this job like working under pressure, gaining confidence, and greater communication skills. The hardest part of the job was to get to know each and every student because there was more then two hundred kids.

- a typical day at work would be interacting with younger children playing games, etc. 
- I learned how to be a leader.
- My co-workers and i worked as a team in order to satisfy the children's experiences at camp. 
- The hardest part of the job was the constant up and downs in activities but it wasn't something to much to handle. 
- Most enjoyable part was building relationships with my co-workers and the children and creating bonds.

A typical day at work was I prepared camp materials, and maintained registration records.
My co workers helped me a whole lot during the summer when we worked with the children. 
The most enjoyable part of the job was when we took the kids on trips, such as, TIFF, Wonderland, Baseball games and many more

A typical day at work involved tutoring children and leading activities and games with the youth in the afternoon. The job was very exciting and taught me things like organization and patience and it also helped me work on my leadership skills and my ability to be vocal

We would go on adventures and help the youth with their activities.  It was a very fun experience with eccentric co-workers. Hardest part of the job was containing the kids from going wild. But overall it was an amazing experience.

Great experience working with kids and co-workers. great environment to work in, supervisor were really friendly and really understanding. Enjoy working with other and in an open environment.
Had a blast leading young adolescents and preparing them for high school.

Mentoring children, Setting up activities and supervising activities, Tutored campers in mathematics. Prepare lunch for students, and plan the day for the kids. Help kids interact with each other and make friends before high school.

Support, coach and develop staff team to meet program deliverables.
Supervise staff, including monitoring and addressing performance.
Schedule staff, including approving time off ensuring proper program coverage
