Summit Reforestation

My day would begin with an 5 am alarm, I would pull on my planting cloths and work boots and step into cold and dewy morning, splash cold water on my face, find myself some coffee and then force down my breakfast (who has a appetite that early?). 

Crew meeting this is where we are assigned a piece of land to plant, grab your planting gear and make it to the crummies or helicopter. Arriving at our location the rest is just planting for 8-10 back breaking hours. Quitting is a constant thought however the only way is to push pass it is to plant some more trees. On average I would plant 300 and hour with an average of 0.10 a tree this makes up for the body breaking labour.      

The crews that you will be placed on become your new family, the management will always make sure that you are being well taken care of. I made it through 3 months living in Northern Canada in a tent, surrounded by a bear fence.   

Overall I had a great experience, yes the work is not the greatest but the crew life is great and you have an opportunity to make a lot of money if you are willing to go the extra mile.

It was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life. I came from a an extremely active and disciplined lifestyle being an NCAA athlete and still I found the activity of tree planting demanding and back breaking. The food was impeccable, the lifestyle unparalleled. The hardest part of the job was keeping a positive and productive mindset when the weather turned reproachful and your body ached from the laborious days. The most enjoyable part was the lifestyle, and the bonfire every night next to your comrades.

Tree planting was very hard physically but also mentally. The people and the camp make it worth it, camp life is absolutely incredible and the people are diverse and exciting. Living in a tent for 3 months was also a major bonus! Get paid per tree, so you get out what you put in for sure

Water train and pruning them and clearing the weeds and direct
Active and aggressive at work
When the sun is too hot
When it rains and I see that all the plants the plants are growing well I feel happy

Management would treat any first year planters very poorly while treating the veteran planters very differently. 
Having long days of planting, and camp moves on the same day, not providing adequate food/nutrition, just to name a few. 

I look back on tree planting with nothing but fond memories. Although the work can be extremely difficult it is worth it. You can meet some amazing people, can make great money, and see some really cool parts of Canada. The camp cooks make absolutely amazing food.

The people are why you come back the planting aspect sounds easy but is incredibly difficult in both a physical and mental sense. Do your research before considering the job, it is expensive to get out there, do not go if you don’t think your cut out for it.

Loved working as a planter and living in the bush. The work was really hard and made me want to quit some days, but the foremans and supervisers help push in the business. The money was good as long as you can work hard.
