While the staffing in upper management has been increasing to decrease workload the front line staff are consistently working short. The job duties and expectations constantly increase while the pay stays the same. Over worked and under paid.  The culture is aweful and it has become a toxic environment all around. Staff are unappreciated and sometimes the expectations are just unethical. Anyone who questions or challenges upper management ends up bullied or fired. Clients are treated better the more money they bring into the agency. Staff are disposable. Don’t ever think you can be an advocate for your clients because it will cost you your job. I used to love working here but it is not the same place it was when I started 10 years ago. The clients are amazing and the staff are great but all the great staff are looking for an exit because of the environment that has been created. Very sad.  Union is very weak and aren’t very productive in protecting staff.

I love working for sunbeam! The clients are absolutely amazing and I have learned so much from every one of them! 

Unfortunately, 
I have learned that management does not have much put in place to protect their employees. When faced with a challenge, even though they are unionized, alot of your concerns are not addressed and you are forced to face challenges on your own. Sunbeam will punish you for things that you didn't do without giving you a chance. If management thinks they are right, you are immediately wrong. No questions asked. 

You will be working in a group home setting- the key word being “home”…. very different than hospital or nursing home. The clients are wonderful and the staffing ratios tend to be around 2-3 staff per 6 clients. The residents receive excellent care here. I’ve met so many amazing people at Sunbeam-including my colleagues. There are always rough days, as is the case anywhere in healthcare, but overall, it really is a great and meaningful place to work. 

You will obtain a lot of specialized skills here as it is a complex care. You will work with all age groups, including peds. 



I loved working at Sunbeam. They really do love their clients and are there to support staff. At the beginning while working part time, hours are based on seniority. Hours are always available during busy times like summer and other staffs vacation times or just the needs of the particular home. Once you pass probation you can pick up shifts at all the homes. So possibity of more hours is always there. 

Sunbeam could be a really great place to work, and it is... at first. The thing about sunbeam is they do not look out for staff a whole lot. The burn out rate is quite high and that is because supervisors and higher up people don't listen to us staff providing direct support. It can be very frustrating when issues continue to not be resolved. Staff can get away with a lot since we are so short staffed. Overall, I loved my job when I first started so Sunbeam has the potential to be a great company if they took staff more seriously.

Excellent care. Best staff in any care setting!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
High level of personal care and medical care

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Excellent very professional. Supervisors work with and support their staff. Best care workers anywhere I have seen

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy for 8 hours but not crazy like a nursing home

RPN’s are not seen as nurse’s at Sunbeam. Very toxic environment. Incredible amount of backstabbing amongst the staff. Management literally seek a reason to discipline you. Clients are lovely but lots of bullying from the parents and management does nothing about it. No room for advancement unless you are a friend or relative of upper management.

Management does not support their staff. When staff is bullied/harassed they have not follow through and leave you unsupported.  Management does not follow up on issues and they do not validate resident or staff concerns.  They allow people to get away with not working and creating unsafe environments for residents and staff.  Management does not have your back at all.

Sunbeam is a great place to work. It's fun to do different things  with my clients, from helping them to learn to cook. Going on outings, going swimming, crafts. Great to see the clients reaction and smiles when the are have a great time.

I loved working with the clients however, hours for part-time are unsteady. Ability to work more hours if you are flexible. 

8 hour shifts and the days can get crazy sometimes but not as bad as LTC. However, there is a high level of personal and medical care involved.
