When I initially started at my store location, my department head would routinely do their portion of restocking whenever shipment arrived on their assigned working day(s). Over time, they stopped doing sections of their work and would routinely push their responsibilities onto myself when I would come in the following day. This entire process made it very difficult to properly restock some products in a timely manner as being handed 1.5 days of work proved challenging, but remains manageable if you are prepared to be fast with your work. 

Scheduling remains a constant issue as there is no fixed scheduling, every week the schedule can change and it becomes difficult to properly plan activities in advance as a result. Lacking a fixed schedule also means you can sometimes get only one day of notice, with an example being the schedule being released on Saturday and you are assigned for Sunday. One time I was assigned 6 days of work within 7 days, which would have extended into 7 days within 8 days had I not directly talked to my store lead about the situation. When asked regarding the scheduling my store lead simply laughed.

There is a main issue in company culture as there is no incentive to do your work in a timely manner. Management expects employees to always go the extra mile by doing work not assigned to their original task schedule, with no compensation or benefits. This poorly thought out process ultimately results in employees favoring decreased productivity as there remains no incentive(s) to increase productivity if they are not rewarded but rather punished with extra work/tasks.

The poor management decisions also results in constant issues, this is mainly due to the company having extremely rigid guidelines that disregard location adaptability. This means that stores cannot cater towards their local community, resulting in poor sales margins and wasted food that has to been thrown out.

The overall experience felt poor as an employee, there are better alternatives than this company.

Joined as Part-time grocery clerk before the opening of the first store and has been a Team manager for a long time. The company is developing very fast, opening many stores in Great Vancouver right now, so the desire for talents is very obvious. Witnessed the growth and promotion of many partners during the past two years.

As an employee, it is really not easy to adapt to the corporate culture at the same time under such circumstances. The company is still young, so that many things and rules are constantly being adjusted and changed. When I am stressed and tried, I choose to look at and listen to the thoughts and voices of customers to judge whether my choice and the company's persistence are correct and recognized.

Personal experience proves that it does not matter what kind of position you enter the company. What is important is whether you can invest in the pace and needs of development as soon as possible, and you will naturally be able to reap reasonable returns. It's like running into the football patch for whatever reason, the more active you run, the better you integrate with the team, the more chances you have to score goals, and there will be no lack of applause and flashing lights in the audience seat.

Not a perfect company for everyone, but it must be a piece of nutritious soil prepares for excellent seeds to thrive.

I was with this company for years, and there was no room for advancement or growth. There is no job security. They can switch your role abruptly from working in the head office to working as a store worker. They expect you to work long hours, weekends, and after hours without overtime. They just say you can bank the hours because they don't want to compensate you. Plus, they expect you to drive around from store to store delivering shipments without compensating for gas. If you say no, they say you are not a team player. Also, they expect head office staff to work at the stores to push sales. And, they sell you on the idea that you can grow within the company if you work hard, but it's all false hope. The company is struggling and always finds ways to cut costs and take shortcuts to save money. They expect category specialist to bargain with suppliers for the best price, even though we have no buying power. You get blamed if you buy too much and the product doesn't sell and expires, but if you order too little and it sells out quickly, you get blamed for lost sales. Staff yell at each other and blame each other, which is very unprofessional. If you are not the owner's favorite, they will find ways to get rid of you and then hire someone else at a lower salary. They try to compare themselves with T&T Supermarket. The culture is all about looking good to the owners and taking credit without giving it to the team. Poor company and poor culture.

• Poor management.
  Some colleagues were lazy, but the manager only asked certain employees to do more work.  However, some people were always resting or walking around the store without thinking but some people were always busy.  Most employees were not satisfied with the management style because we are not machines.  We need to be treated like people.  That's why more employees leave and new hires did not stay long-term.

•There was always a shortage of staff. 
  You can believe how big the store is, but sometimes there is only one cashier. The store space is bigger than the convenience store, but the staff is always understaffed.

•Benefits are declining.
   There were less benefits, and only products that less sold were given to employees.

•Opaque promotion. 
  Existing employees cannot be paid the same as new employees.  New employees can be paid more than older employees even if they don't know anything.  Plus, they can promote inexperienced people because they need employees to make orders.  As a result, many employees with longer experience were leaving the company.  They did not have many opportunities.

• Vacation is not easy.  
  Not everyone can take two weeks of annual leave, or even a short break.  Everything depends on the manager.  The manager can ask you to shorten your vacation or ask you to resign.  If you want to enjoy your vacation, this company is not for you.

I recently worked for Sungiven Foods, and my experience was less than positive. The management team appeared to be unconcerned about the well-being and satisfaction of its employees. There was a lack of appreciation for the staff's hard work and dedication, and it often felt as if our efforts were taken for granted. 

In addition, management was unresponsive to employee concerns and appeared to prioritize pleasing customers over ensuring a healthy work environment for their employees. This contributed to a negative and stressful work environment, with many of my coworkers feeling undervalued and disrespected.

While the company may put on a good face for its customers, it is clear that they do not extend the same level of respect and consideration to their own employees. I would not recommend working for Sungiven Foods.


Working here was highly stressful due to chronic understaffing and poor management. As an employee, I was expected to constantly juggle multiple massive departments at once, including frozen goods, freezer management, and endless grocery stocking. The environment is incredibly fast-paced, but the management structure feels too messy to support the staff. The store manager frequently assigned extra tasks at the very end of shifts, forcing mandatory overtime and delaying departures. There is a noticeable bias against hiring young people and students, and student availability is not well-respected. Due to these conditions, employee dissatisfaction is incredibly high, leading to a severe turnover rate. I cannot recommend this location to young adults or students looking for a balanced workplace.

Okay place to work if you get the right co workers, to be fair when I had co workers who actually does something and respects each other the job was a lot of fun and you tend to learn a lot about the different departments while helping each other out.

However there are certain managements that feel superior and are only good at giving orders rudely while she does NOTHING, will ask if you need help and just WALK AWAY when you CLEARLY say yes. I have had so many instances with a manager who orders me very rudely while I was already busy while her friend who also works there does nothing. Even better when I had one of the company's VP who only listen to certain useless individuals  jump to the gun and get in my face before he getting my side of the story.

Terrible work experience, the manager of Richmond shop is rough and indifferent, lay off employees .

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Terrible work experience in Richmond Store.The managers of Richmond Store doesn't allow employees to have meal time.Their HR and managers are very unprofessional.Rude and mean,lay off most of the old employees away within a month.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Be targeted and discomfort.The store manager will make me feel very mad and puzzled.Nightmare work experience.

The advantages of Sungiven are that most colleagues have great attitudes—they're very friendly, willing to help, and the managers are also very kind, making work quite enjoyable and happy. It's even better if your supervisor or manager likes you. Whenever you need help or support, you can always count on your coworkers to back you up.  

The employee discounts are pretty good too, though I preferred the old staff lunch options from before.The downside is that the job can sometimes be quite physically demanding and tiring.I worked at sungiven for several years and gained a lot of customer service experience. I'm still very grateful to my team and the store manager. The team morale was excellent, and working with them was truly joyful.



Worked here during covid and found it very beneficial. We received 20 dollars in credits to get free lunches at work during the height of the pandemic, as well as $50 a week to help us pay for groceries. I left just before a year and I'm not sure how it is now but i had a good experience working here especially in the beginning. Really good and understanding coworkers and management. By the end I left because I was placed in a department that I didn't enjoy and changing rules on how the department was run. Overall I look back on my time here very well.
