The hurvitz brain sciences program at Sunnybrook Research Institute is severely miss managed, as there really is none. The "portfolio manager" (whatever this title even means) made the work place unbearable - she resorts to constantly bullying and publicly berating other employees without consequences for her behaviour. Sunnybrook's HR department, despite stating my complaints were confidential, discussed my complaints with multiple people. The pay was not competitive or fair. Individuals in the same position, who had less work load, made almost double my salary. This environment rewards individuals who complain, don't do their work, and who bully others. Those who are actually good at their job are not valued at all. Despite actually enjoying the content of the job, I would never recommend anyone to work here. There is the opportunity to attend lectures most weeks, but that's about the only good thing about this job. Most places are aware there is a high turn over rate in this lab, this is the reason.

Good hours, great team,  flexibility

High stress jobs to be completed (but that's not the workplaces fault,  it's just the nature of the work)

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Friendly,  supportive. Lots of opportunities tonearm and better yourself 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arrive, housekeeping,  varying daily tasks per scheduled work

A great place with great peers who are very knowledgeable and welcoming. The atmosphere is relaxed and research heavy. Learning and upskilling completely depends on you. 

The compensation is absolutely poor and there is no career progression unless you're a post doc with a leading lab and affiliated to University of Toronto.

The benefits are good and it has the best pension plan, mental health is poorly covered considering it's a hospital. 

Every day was as enjoyable as the last. Coming together in a team to find new ways of beating cancer; mine being the Delta-Notch pathway enhancing specific proteins which would commit immature T-cells to a mature pathway in vitro.

My project was a success and the cells expressing Dl4-VLR protein were frozen for future use.

I did an internship during 5 months in SRI. It was a great experience. I worked with a lot of people who wanted to share their experimences and theirs knowledge. We worked together but we also has our own project. It's very nice to work with people professionnal and expert but also empathic and very nice.

Friendly, creative and fun working environment.
Chance to learning lost of new knowledge.
Have discussions, put ideals together, stimulate new.
and ...lots of coffee time.

The hospital is in the City centre and I like the way the research is managed. Everyone who is conducting research will have their own file where other staffs are allowed to view. Apart from this, all staffs need to change to proper attire to start work.

The job was of a hybrid nature and very flexible, the times within the campus was productive and the discussions were engaging.  A great place to gain knowledge from experienced scientists and research lab professionals. 

nce you say what you think and disagree with management, you get kicked out. It does not matter how good you are at your position. It's who you know and not what you know.

- working in cubicle, analyzing Data/ MRI cases using quantitative techniques
-  management and employees make the workplace more enjoyable
- weekly deadlines need to be met
