I was super excited when I was offered a job as Flight Attendant with Sunwing, but I almost turned it down because it's seasonal. Really it's just a foot in the door to get the experience to work for a bigger, better airline. They'll tell you it only takes a couple of years to work year-round with Sunwing, but in reality there are Flight Attendants who have been with the company for 7+ years and still get laid off for the summer. They only pay you $50 per day during your 5 weeks of initial training. That works out to about $6/hour when you sit in the classroom for 8-9 hours a day.

A typical day at work for me would start with a 4:45am check in to start the pre-flight briefing. Then everyone gets in the crew bus and they take us to the terminal, you find your gate and board the plane. Once on the plane you do you pre-flight safety checks so that passengers can board. On board services include food, drinks, duty free and excursion sales. The hardest part of the job was the stress on your body of being at 36,000 feet for 8 hours in a germ-infested tube. I really loved that every day was different, and you met lots of wonderful people.

Management was non-existent. It really felt like they decided who they did and didn't apply the rules to. The senior staff got away with everything, from not following uniform policy to being extremely rude and making the company look bad. But if you're on probation, someone is breathing down your neck watching your EVERY move. They have incredibly high turnover because they fire so many people at the end of their first season. 

The company as a whole is an unorganized mess. There's no clear communication ever. You pretty much have to figure things out for yourself because not a single person you ask for help will tell you the same thing as someone else.

Terrible culture. Family small business mentality with significant revenue and terrible employee support. Worst salary in the industry, higher expectations, long hours, zero employee recognition unless you are a "A.. kisser". 
It is a travel and tourism company but employees have very to none  travel benefits since the company do not provide any kind of support to its employees to enjoy their benefits. In fact the company constantly ban the employees from travelling and try to make money also with them. 

They make the employees pays for absolutely everything including the xmas party.  Literally as employee none pilot you are the last in the list for them. 
Employment turn over rate in all front line and operational department are incredible high because they have the mentality that "if you don't like it, go somewhere else."

Good employees move somewhere or are fire because of many all fashions managers an VPs who has been there for too long follow the same concept squeezing everyone. 

If you are a pilot things may be different, way different and we get the point, however it is vey frustrating to work here since they do not support absolutely anything unless they are make HUGE money. Personal development for employees such as training, course are absolutely out of questions. 

Salaries increases, aren't even mentioned. Some departments do performance review but they make you clear that salary increases or any kind of incentive for improvements are not part of the review. You will get may be 1 or 2  % bases on Canada inflation rate and yes they still sent newsletter every year to all employees announcing that revenues soared as well as how profitable they have been.

You must get along with all co-workers even with personality clashes since you rely on each other for safety, medical, social, and as backup. There is no help up in the air.
You should know before this job if you often have motion sickness.
There are some dirty jobs and should have a strong stomach.
You must be social enough with 200 passengers but not too social that you are slowing down services and frustrating your coworker.
You may leave for a flight thinking you'll be home in 20 hours but you may be diverted from home for 24-72 hours so your life at home needs to have backups set in place (extended animal care, home care, child care)
Middle Management is pretty awful. You rely a lot on your equal co-workers, union., if necessary higher-ups can be more helpful than middle management.
I would never trade this job for the world, this job is your world.
It's not casual, It's not easy, It's not mindless.
It's high stress and thankless.

I was part of this airline for 4 years. I worked as stores person for 3 years and later became purchaser for the stores department.

i would say overall the airline is great. fun people certain departments but i would have to admit my experience with the stores department was not pleasant. great amount of unprofessional people, especially the management. they will say anything to you in front of anybody just to get the joke across and seem funny. the lack of training was the biggest issue with this dept. when they expected you to perform the best and training was never a part of your job to begin with. you made mistakes and you were picked on for it for the rest of your employment there. keep in mind most of the employees salaries are based on favourtism - there are individuals who have no education what so ever to be in the position they are and being paid what they are. company itself needs to re-evaluate their salaries and be fair to employees who actually deserves to be in their salary bracket. there are pros and cons however. i learned a lot in terms of dealing with high pressure between tasks in a limited time given and handled multiple important tasks yet never was appreciated for the good work. 

the hours is brutal if your not a night person with 12 hours shift through the night. but 4 days off is golden also.

experience wise good - if staying for short time.

Check in an hour and fifteen minutes before our scheduled flight. Have a crew briefing and go over the flight plan and all the details. do safety checks on the plane and prep for services. Greet and seat passengers to prepare them for flight. Services throughout the flight. Assist passengers to disembark. Prepare plane for the next flight.  Services throughout the return flight. Assist passengers to disembark once again. Make sure all the garbage and equipment is properly stowed. End of shift. I learned to be able to time manage efficiently, to always be on alert, first aid and CPR trained, Safety trained for using flight equipment, learned to work efficiently in a small environment. All my co workers were so positive and helpful, a joy to work with. You could tell majority of them really enjoyed the job and put their full efforts into it. The hardest part of the job were the long hours without little or close to no breaks. Also the fact we were gone for weeks at a time, was hard on certain relationships. The most enjoyable part of the job was meeting amazing people and being able to travel to different places and experience them.

I joined the company a few years ago working for the airline division. It becomes apparent very quickly that the resort division overshadows the airline and most of the traditional benefits which airline employees would expect (jump seat privileges, free or tax-only employee and employee family travel etc) are sorely missing. 

Benefits are probably at the middle of the scale compared to similar businesses although the group health plan for families can be costly for the advanced dental and prescription plans.

Promotional opportunities are obscure and there isn’t a transparent approach to fostering career development. It is an “ok” company to get your foot in the door s a younger person or as a step-down for pre-retirement. Other than the flight crew (pilots), earning potential is quite limited compared to the prevailing cost of living in the Greater Toronto Area and the company doesn’t see the need to inventivize employees. Instead, the minuscule discounts offered to employees involve stays at the company’s resorts, which is not appealing to all staff. 

Like all companies suffering from the growing pains associated with rapid expansion of their business Sunwing lacks the critical infrastructure in the form of IT support for their 1,000s of internal clients. Most of those clients have little or no experience with technical issues and Sunwing makes little effort to change this. This type of client requires “white glove” treatment and more time to ensure the correct issue is addressed. IT Support, on the other hand, are expected to know the critical details regarding all aspects of the operation and support for over 100 separate IT resources. There is no documentation to refer to in order to accomplish this. Other IT personal are reluctant to provide assistance and often hostile to the idea that they are in any way responsible for support. This translates into extreme stress and frustration for the support analysts and disappointment from the clients.

A typical day in the office would be starting at 9am and working individually on the claims we receive. During the time we are working on the claims, we are also working with our problem solving skills, and providing excellent customer service to our clients. Our office is not a call center, but we do receive many calls that we must attend, in order to keep our clients satisfied. 

The department I currently work for is very team oriented. Everyone provides each other with great assistance when needed. 

I do not think there is a hard part of the job, as there is a solution to almost everything. When I do need assistance, I go directly to my Senior Manager in order to come up with a solution. 

During my time with my current employer, my writing skills have became stronger, as well as my interpersonal skills. 

It is a very enjoyable place to work, as the work environment is very easy going. My colleagues are also very friendly. 

By the end of the work day, we are required to close a minimum of 8-10 files/claims. In my case, I usually close 15-20 per day.

This Companies main business is hotels and tours in Mexico and the Caribbean. They only operate their own airline because its a cheaper way to get it's customers down south than chartering other companies to do it. They do not care about the airline and only see it (and it's employees) as an unavoidable expense to their bottom line of their real business.

Good place to step up from M1, commuter airlines or heavy to line and then move on to WJ or AC when you can. Very high turnover so its easy to get the NG endorsement and other training. 

You can look forward to the 3 or 4 times a year that you get tagged on face book by your friends and family to the Angry passengers yelling in the news article for Sunwing stranding their passengers (Again)  because the aircraft breaks and they have no spare airplanes and limited parts or bad weather and no one at the company cares to help them in anyway or show any little bit of remorse for the situation.

IT Department thinks it owns and runs the company; vetos any project it doesn't want to do even if CEO signs and approves it.

Pilots think they own the company, no training bond for pilots. Pilots hop to other companies once aircraft type training is complete.

Travel Group generates the most revenue for the company, other divisions (i.e. Airline primarily) drain the organization with massive pay hikes every 4-5 years. Management caves in to every demand pilots have.  

Office departments can have as little as 3 people (1 manager, 2 workers). Managers expect you to sacrifice everything for the company while they go travel multiple times a year to every new opening, new aircraft, new resort that pops into the company portfolio.
