Superdrug

I found that whilst working within Superdrug it was easy to approach other staff members and they would provide me with any information I needed to complete a task. Every one made me feel extremely welcome and I felt as if I was ready to work straight away.

A typical day at work would consist of everybody smiling and ready to work, I'd enter work at 9am and was always greeted by the other staff members, I'd then go around the store looking at ways I could make the stock more presentable and to clear up any mess, when we would start to get customers I would stand by the door greeting all customers and I had made sure I told them if they need any assistance to come and find me, I would then give any advice/recommendations/product information that the customer wanted.

I learned a lot of customer service skills and communication skills, I wasn't very confident speaking to new people before working here but I understood what my manager expected of me so I promptly stepped up to the mark to assist the customers.

My co-workers were extremely friendly and would check if I was ok and handling fine, after the first day they saw how independent and mature I was.

The hardest part of the job was to work in the heat as the shop was very warm throughout the Spring season and a lot needed to be done but we all overcame this and did our jobs.

The most enjoyable part of the job was definitely gaining a lot of new skills and meeting new people everyday, I now love speaking to new people and assisting them.

A typical day at work is watching for shop lifters and trying to deter them, training is awful ur expected to know every thing after only being shown once , my manager was good but my assistant manager was lazy and it made working very difficult, the hardest part of the job is shop lifters and the fact that you face disciplinary if they don’t think you were actively trying to deter them and the upselling at the till is a joke customers hate it and get upset with you but you have a strike rate and every member of staff has to be under 5 every shift which means you have to sell certain product every sale to get it under 5, overall I don’t recommend working here they don’t treat the staff very well and the shop lifters know the police are coming so they do what they like expect to have confrontations at least 2-3 times a day with shop lifters it’s pretty awful.

I have 2 good assistant managers who will help whenever I need it, my manager is very good at the commercial side of the business. I get along with all my co-workers very well they respect me if I tell them what jobs to be done and if I need to tell them if doing anything wrong in return I respect them. Hardest part of the job is sometimes not having enough time to do all jobs that I see that need doing. Best part of the job is people I work with can have a good giggle while getting on with our work, also the customers who are grateful for the help we give them on a daily basics.

On a normal day I would be on the tills giving great customer service to all customers. If it wasn't that busy I would sort out the selves so they look neat but stay close to the till incase a customer appears. I have learned that  if you don't get along with someone at work then you should still be friendly and polite towards them. I have also learned that you should leave your personal life at the door. The management are important as they know what needs to be done and what money we need to be making in that day. my co-workers are friendly and always their if anyone needs help or stuck. I don't think there is a hard part of the job but the most enjoyable is seeing the customers happy with the service and with what they have bought in store.

I loved working here due to the nice customers and fairly easy money. However nasty customers can get you down, hours can be terrible and pay is awful. Sometimes I did a 4 hour shift, and was paid around 16 pound, and a return bus ticket cost £4. Generally though the atmosphere of the staff and shop was good. Also, i understand security etc but sometimes we got 15 minute breaks and had to buy food in store and the queues would 10 ten minutes and we werent told we could have an extra ten, so I'd rush and basically have 2 minutes sit down over 6 hours.

Working at Superdrug offers a generous employee discount. The team environment is supportive and friendly, creating a pleasant workplace. For those who enjoy customer interaction, the role is fulfilling. However, the pay is often low, and the benefits package is limited. The workload can be overwhelming during peak times, leading to high-stress levels. Long hours, including weekends and holidays, make work-life balance challenging, and breaks are short and infrequent. Additionally, dealing with difficult customers is a common challenge.

With the long career at superdrug, my working day consisted of managing a team of 16 providing them duty of care,
Managing budgets, salaries providing HR support for a area, holding conference calls as well as supporting the Area Manager with any staffing issues.

The hardest part of my experience at superdrugs was dividing my time supporting two stores at the same time.

Thoroughly enjoyed my career with superdrug.

With only working here for 2 weeks whilst doing my work experience at school, i learnt a lot about working within a retail environment. It's not the easiest job however it is a really good environment to work in. By the end of it i had learnt new skills which will stick with me for life now. Everyone who i worked with was very friendly and very polite and warm and welcoming. I would definitly work here as a pernamant job if i saw that they were advertising.

The shop I work in can be extremely busy with a wide variety of customers with different needs. The management and team I work in are amazing and wonderfully friendly people. The hardest part of the job is the fact you are on your feet all day long. I enjoy all aspects of the job though.

I gained retail experience in connecting with customers, working on a till, working in a fast paced environment and also being able to recover the store.  I always asked to have mouse hours especially with me having to pay rent but the management wouldn't give me more than 4 hours.
