Surmont Sand and Gravel

Start my day off by signing in, then we go over the job tasks for the day. After that is done we go over the job tasks by filling out our FLHAs. We then proceed out to our equipment and do the pre-operational check inside and outside the equipment/ under the hood (look for scratches, dings, leaks. cracks etc.) we then fill out our equipment log books and write down anything we see out of place or damaged.
After the pre inspection both outside and inside the cab is done, we then can proceed to operate safely and use the 2 way radios as often as possible for communication between the operators, ground workers, foreman / supervisors.

Working on a mobile crusher plant is very challenging, You go non stop and the 12 hour days seem to pass by very quickly as your always busy.

Ive learned allot about the mechanics of how the plant works and to always keep safety in mind cause it can be very dangerous around all the moving parts and moving equipment.

Supervisors are always there to help and oversee any problems, People i worked with are all on the same page and work as a team to ensure everything is running smoothly.

I enjoyed every part of my job

It's overall atmosphere is that of an owner operated business.  Have a flexible attitude and keep in mind that there are slow/busy cycles in this line of work.  Dave will help out dependable and reliable guys at the drop of a hat with things like if you have to work on your own car or truck on a day off, need to a mini ex for an hour or two, or are looking for some crush for your driveway.  If there's room in the shop you can wrench away indoors, if a mini is free he'll let you borrow it, haul the crush yourself and it wont cost much if anything at all.  

I enjoyed my time at Surmont Sand and Gravel. I started off in the washbay cleaning all manner of heavy equipment and I enjoyed that. then I was moved on to a lube truck and learned from there how to do oil changes on all the equipment. the people I worked beside were great. By the end I had my own lube truck and partner and we got to basically be our own bosses as long as work was completed every day and paperwork handed in.

Well working for Surmont  I learnt many different positions ex: hotshot, flagger, fuel & lube, labourer, piloting,  packer operator & scaler/dispatcher of gravel truck's to designated destinations, receptionist, distribution of fuel cards, ordering office supplies/company decals. I enjoyed learning new positions to widen my knowledge of the construction industry.

I have learned many new skills operating different types of equipment and power tools, most of the management was professional except I found it to be unorganized. The hardest part of the job was the dealing with some of the management and the most enjoyable part was learning new things and meeting new people.

Great bunch to work with if you are into no stabulity and not sure when at any moment you can be let go because of money cuts. Management is something to be desired.  Most unorganized bunch ever.    Days off are good as long as it doesn't interfere with anything they have planed weather you are scheduled for time off or not.

They pay is good but they try to hand off to much responsibility to certain individuals and whenever a mistake happens the blame is always placed on someone other than those actually responsible. Although I did enjoy the people I worked with and the owner is a gem. Would return if the management was to change hands.

working at surmount we did many different things we did a water pipe line and sewer pipe line multiple km of pipe an we also did a lot of man hole installations it was enjoyable to work there co workers an management was good to get along with an I learned many things in helping me become a better operator

Although all of the emloyees are extremely friendly and accepting, all the way until lower management, the upper management is very unorganized and they make a mistake on almost every pay check. I learned alot though from quality operators that work there. you also don't get many days off (24-4)
