Taylor Steel Inc.

Working at Taylor steel was a great job as a summer student. I was a bander and packager of the steel and everyday i would set up my day to do this. the shifts were long but with good pay. I enjoyed the other employees i worked with as they helped me learn the skills to do the jobs and they were all down to earth men and women who made the working environment comfortable. The hardest part of my job would have to be the physical banding of the steel on hot days. You are using your own strength and it can be tiring at times.
Overall i enjoyed my time at Taylor steel and all that i have learned and experienced.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Hard work does not pay off. All seniority. So if you’re old and useless. You’ll be able to sit on your butt and do nothing. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management is blind. They have zero clue what goes on on the floor.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Laid back. Hard work does not pay off tho

The moral is terrible Management doesn’t care about the employees. Ripped us off on the profit sharing for many years Was a good place to work in the 80s when they cared about there employees but now they are just more concerned with cramming  all the profits into there own pockets that’s why all the senior employees are leaving Taylor and going to Arcelor Mittal 

Better off at dofasco or stelco, management couldn't care less about employees, during summer they say u can take heat breaks but actuslly you just go to lunchroom while line is still running and get puts you behind ( take a heat break at own discretion

What is the best part of working at the company?
leaving. place sucked. lazy teams. all shifts

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
having to work with lazy immigrants 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
trash and nonexistent , employees on tiktok

The environment is hot in the summer and no compensation for the heat is given. When starting as a new employee you are expected to be flawless and constantly told when you are not with the threat of never being hired on full time. Trash talk is common.

Pros:
Production staff can apply for many jobs in the plants , hiring processes are fair 
Decent pay, matches or exceeds industry standards 


Cons: 
most of these jobs are rotating 12 shifts
Getting hired on full time can be very inconsistent 

It was a good place to work for my co-op through school. Was paid pretty low in my opinion but like I said I was still in school so I couldn’t ask for much. I learnt quite a bit working there and the crew is a great group. 

Good company to work for, great fellow employees. 
Good pay and benefits.
Rotating 12 hour days and night shifts are tough.
Had to leave for health reasons after 24 years of service.

I worked there for 7 or 8 years years and it was an amazing experience lots of overtime great group of guys I will go back in a second! Mr Taylor is a great man and a great person to work for.
