It's obvious that within the field of market research, there are going to be a few relatively dry periods. However, with Telepoll it's a pretty chronic issue.

They'd go for weeks and sometimes MONTHS where there's literally NO SHIFT due to lack of projects. With that said, each employee is expected to hand in their desired shift and times schedule on a weekly basis and thus, be available for IF they're scheduled.

For every shift that you've indicated your availability, you're required to phone in (on a daily basis) and check the 280 extension to make sure that you've been included in the list. If you weren't then your entire day has gone to waste, unless you have other plans on the back-burner.

Apart from all of the above, their treatment of employees is very careless and INCONSIDERATE with ZERO INCENTIVES for working hard. For example, they'd have a survey quota to fill, so they'd stress everyone out to reach it by a specific time during the shift. Once everyone reached the quota (even if it was say half an hour earlier then the desired capped hour) they'd let people go home early WHILE NOT PAYING THEM FOR THE FULL SHIFT that they've signed up for. In other words when you come in and they tell you the shift will run from 12pm to 8pm and everyone has to reach x amount of surveys and so it is done by 6:30pm, then everyone's let go by that time and ARE NOT PAID until 8pm (as an added incentive for the hard work)! That's rather annoying and discouraging to say the least.

Other times, you'd come in, after having been scheduled for a presumably 5 hour shift, only to learn that the shift will last a measly 3 hours with no break. That kind of thing would also happen more often then not. Moreover, this kind of scenario would often happen during their 'busiest' periods! Considering you're being paid minimum wage and you've spend time and money to get all the way there for a 3 hour shift is kind of annoying.

Another example is when you come in and learn that the shift will last 3 hours, but mid-shift, they end up asking you to stay an extra hour... but you don't get break...

Now, excluding everything that's said above, the fellow employees and supervisors are rather helpful, friendly and polite. The atmosphere is rather relaxed, the office facilities are comfortable, and the work itself is pretty easy (albeit with zero room for growth).

I worked for two years at Telepoll Market Research. One of the good things  that I gained from working there was I learned a lot from my co workers (some of those who came before me were gone but they gave me ideas on how to improve my telephone skills). On the other hand, supervisors are also accommodating and approachable whenever I need help with  the surveys (i.e. reaching target, interview techniques,  quota, etc.) .  However, the work atmosphere has changed a little bit  because they now focus on everyone's performance regardless of the hard work and the amount of time you spent dialing/reaching the target. The amount of stress from reaching the target triggered my inability to reach my target as they are now expecting us to at least reach almost or perhaps, complete the quota per shift.  I used to get a lot of surveys but then everything just went  awkward with more respondents hanging up on me, not in service numbers, and refusals. They used to be lenient about the target (sometimes they would say it is okay to get zero because we have those bad days). Plus, I even tried to change things a little bit  on how I make my interviews just to get a hold of those respondents but the challenge seems to be much heavier recently than it used to.  However, I do not have any negative feedback regarding the office because it is well organized and the receptionist is very friendly. With regards to the start times that I worked there,  I didn't mind coming in early for an extra hour before the actual shift start which is a plus because I earn extra than my typical start times.  Finally, after working there for two years, I have decided to find something else to pursue (possibly related to my field profession)which I believe would help me more to come out from my comfort zone and improvise my knowledge and skills in the workplace.

I have been working here over three years. The work is easy & not boring if you have the right frame of mind. Supervisors & Co-workers are cool. Most of the people who I call to ask to participate in surveys are nice  We have a target to meet every day for completed surveys. .For the most part I have been fortunate to be getting the hours that I need, despite the fact that we can be without work for a couple of weeks and even as long as a month, I never had trouble with paying my personal expenses. Although with Covid-19 after the benefits ran out it was the first time that I was in a slump because of not having work for two weeks then reduced hours. You might not even be called in for a shift. I can't guarantee that it will be steady work for you so have a plan: put money aside, or work a second job. .

You do surveys with households and businesses on various topics.
Usually evening shifts where you conduct surveys by dialing manually to households on topics like politics(you usually ask their opinion on different party leaders and their mandates across Canada and abroad). Different topics like banking, shopping, electronics, tax benefits.
There are sometimes day shifts available too if they get day projects which is usually B2B conducting surveys with heads of departments or CEO's, COO's and MD's. 
Sometimes there are long pauses of no work. 
If you are looking for an easy job, and to make some pocket money, you can think of joining this place. But don't expect anything fancy. There is no room for growth.

This place is a waste of time. First off, you have to call every day at 1pm to see if you have a shift, there's no weekly schedule put out. Second, anytime you need to use the washroom or step out of the office area, you need you log it. They make you write the time you were leaving, your reason and the time you come back. The three supervisors have a lot of micro aggression. They act nice to your face but gossip behind your back. There are much better call centres where you will be respected. Oh and the supervisors will listen to your calls and then nit pick everything wrong you did after. 

Relaxed work pace and nice work environment. Follow scripts and this job will help you improve sales skills and customer service. Management is helpful and considerate, and they make effort to help you if you ask. Good for people who like some challenge and are comfortable speaking to strangers over the phone.

I would recommend working here if you are a student or retired. The hours are horrible and the pay is minimum wage. The job is very simple but the managers make it extremely difficult for you. They love to gossip.  Do not stay here long term or try to make a career out of it

Management staff are so kind and flexible. You get to choose your hours weekly, typically ends up being about 25 hours per week. You get breaks as outlined by the government, but you get to take them with other people which is nice. Also they have free coffee and tea there!

The Supervisors want you to succeed in your tasks and will readily give you personalized tips to do so. All of the management staff are professional and pleasant to work with.

Conducting surveys by phone for minimum wage. Work is fairly easy. The environment is fairly relaxed. Work evenings and weekends primarily, so it's a decent student job. There are month long stretches where there's no work.
