The Bauer Kitchen

Bauer only cares about appearances and company money, the kitchen is tiny and gross. Let staff work sick and get upset when they are genuinely ill. Management is a mess and does nothing to address concerns from staff. Favouritism and punishment are important "values" here. Uniform is terrible and costs over $200. 

Long periods standing feeling like you're a machine. Was scheduled strictly only Friday and Saturday nights and would finish around 2am on average. Can't listen to music or have headphones at all etc. (made it super brutal). Lack of transparency from the managers and poor management overall. Builds character - if you're into that kind of thing.

Good place if you just start and want to gain more experience. Work load is very heavy, busy restaurant with overwhelmed prep list everyday. Despite that, the pay is always close to minimum wage for line cook and not increase at all no matter how long you work. That is why lots of people leave and the restaurant is always understaffed.  

i did dishes and general cleaning, all co workers friendly and helpful, great team work, very nice management could always talk to. was very demanding at times like diner rush but everyone helped everyone to make it better. enjoyed the very friendly work environment the most.

Worked here about 2 years, wasn't the worst job I had. A nice fast paced atmosphere, huge turn over of staff and management to say the least. Went through a number of Chefs and employees within the time I was there. Tips are good but hourly wage isn't fair for the work put in.

Bauer is part of a corporation that enables more robotic like values. No authenticity allowed. Culture coming from top down is an absolute mess. Favoritism is rampant here and will make or break your experience. 


A typical day at work begins with an early start to ensure  expected tasks assigned approprialy .
Good comunication is key to a sucsessfull  program!  once the day is set into action,   the two oldest children set off to school for the day.

The Charcoal Group is highly respected in turning out well trained cooks and chefs. The culture is much more female friendly than many in the restaurant business and there are good opportunities to move laterally within various restaurants.

I learned a lot about customer service and how to treat customers in a service role. Workplace culture was very friendly and management was very easy to work for. I would recommend a job here for anyone who wants to serve great food in a trendy environment.
