I recently started working for The Job Shoppe and immediately noticed that one of its standout features is its strong leadership team. In my personal experience, working at The Job Shoppe was deeply disappointing. I encountered several challenges that significantly affected my mental well-being.

One of the most concerning issues was the expectation to work overtime without additional pay or time in lieu, which I believe is both unfair and demoralizing. The work environment was highly inconsistent—particularly due to the owner, whose behavior and communication often changed without warning. This unpredictability created confusion and a lack of trust, especially when employees were reprimanded for following previous instructions that had suddenly been “forgotten.”

There was also a pattern of employees being spoken to in a condescending manner, which contributed to a culture where many felt undervalued and incompetent. Morale was frequently low, and support for staff appeared minimal. For example, during winter, the heating system broke down multiple times. Instead of addressing this issue compassionately, we were criticized for wearing jackets indoors because it was deemed “unprofessional.”

Overall, the environment felt toxic and demotivating. I wish someone had shared this insight with me before I accepted the role. If you're considering a position here, I strongly encourage you to explore other opportunities—you deserve a workplace that values and supports its people

This company operates at an extremely fast pace. Roles and expectations often shift with little notice, and goals can feel inconsistent or difficult to achieve. Feedback and performance evaluations sometimes lack clarity and consistency, which can make it hard to understand where you stand or how to improve.

Communication between leadership and staff could be improved. At times, expectations change without being clearly communicated, which impacts productivity and creates confusion. Due to frequent turnover, employees are often required to take on multiple responsibilities beyond their job title, without additional compensation or formal recognition.

Management appears to be under pressure and may not have the training or resources to effectively support team members. While suggestions and new ideas are welcomed in theory, in practice they are not always acted upon, which can lead to feeling undervalued.

Opportunities for advancement or raises are not clearly defined and may not be tied to performance or tenure. There is a lack of structured training and documented processes, which makes onboarding and role clarity difficult.

Overall, this is a high-demand work environment. Those seeking clear communication, consistent support, and career development may find it a difficult long-term fit.

If I had to describe the job shoppe in 3 words they would be disorganized, micromanaging, and toxic. When you are first hired everything is great to portray they have everything organized and in order when in reality there are no processes for anything and policies are extremely out of date. After your first 2 weeks you are thrown into the fire with no guidance or help. You are expected to know what you are doing (without proper training) and hit your KPI’s immediately. Your entire day is tied to an unrealistic number and if that number isn’t hit you are spur down. When you voice your concern with being overwhelmed and overworked, you are told things will change and you will get help but nothing is ever done to actually support their employees. Every day you are micromanaged by your manager and the owner by monitoring absolutely everything you’re doing. They have zero trust in their employees to do their jobs. Every department is under staffed because of the insanely high turnover. People disappear from the company every week without a word being said to the employees. No one is valued for their work and the work you do is only brought up when you do something a different way than upper management would. If you want to be undervalued, overworked, and micromanaged this is the place for you.

Fast paced, high stress environment. Set hours of work but you are “encouraged” to be available all the time.   Turnover is terrible. 
Multitasking is very important.
There is a huge gap in management and staff in terms of communication and just a general understanding of the work you actually do.   It can feel like a one way conversation almost all the time and the general consensus is that your career growth will only be when, how and IF they deem fit.  Not based on your effort and accomplishments. Another way they “encourage” growth is by you doing what they say regardless of any feedback you have.  The interest and ideas you have do not matter to management regardless of how much you’re encouraged to say what’s on your mind.  You tend to feel very unappreciated when you do address concerns. 
Getting a raise is difficult and wearing multiple hats without any recognition for it is common.  Not an environment I would recommend if you’re looking to be happy with your job and have reciprocated appreciation for what you do.  Your passion and goals for where you see yourself are just that, YOURS and it really doesn’t matter to them. 
If you’re in recruiting to be fulfilled and help people with their career this may be the wrong place, it’s more so about getting the jobs closed rather than who you get to work.  

Most of the jobs that I worked for The Job Shoppe in Tecumseh were horrible. I worked in factories that didn't give proper training for all of the jobs. There was no one to be found to help when I was at the factory. I had bruising on my hands and was really sore after working at one of the factories. Several hours later someone told me an easier way to do the job after I was struggling and looking for help. The job that I worked at a produce plant in Kingsville was like slave work. We had to work at a really fast pace for the entire shift and the supervisors would yell at all the workers to go faster. The shifts would range from 4 hours to 13 hours and we were never told ahead of time how long the shifts would be. Another factory I worked at was also really horrible. I had bruising all over my body from lifting heavy metal racks. All these jobs paid minimum wage. There was only one job that was simple but the factory was very noisy and there was no one to talk to. It was very isolating. The Job Shoppe in Windsor only offered me a midnight position and had no other jobs available. I couldn't work midnights at the time because I had 2 young kids. I am skeptical of even working for a placement agency again. If Windsor had better jobs available, I wouldn't have had to work these horrible jobs.

Overall, an internal HR position will give you the experience you need in the industry to get your foot in the door at a better organization. 

The internal staff typically last about a year (if they can handle it) before they find something that is better or simply just quit. Meaning, that the internal staff change just as much as the employees that we are sending out to work every day. 

Your day to day work there just doesn't feel like you are accomplishing anything. You will get an order and send 10 general laborers to an organization and then they order 10 more. The jobs themselves see a tremendous amount of turnover and if their employer doesn't want them back for whatever reason you have to LIE right to peoples faces and make up a reason as to why they cant go back. And then try to find them something else. It just sucked BUT, it did get me the experience in HR that built the foundation for a career and more importantly to never have to do it again, which I am thankful for. 

The hardest part of this job is actually staying in this job. If you are looking to get some HR experience, I highly recommend it. It is great when you are learning new things (generally 2-3 months), but after that it all goes downhill. Management knows this and nothing changes.

I worked student shift (weekends) at Vista Print last summer, and it was a fulfilling experience. The shifts were rather long-- 12 hours every Saturday and Sunday-- however plenty of adequate breaks were provided, as well as a lunch period. As such, the shifts felt less stressful than they seemed. 
Management was great, in the sense that all supervisors were lenient and made sure everybody was on the right track. There was a decent variety of work, and you were mostly always kept busy. None of the tasks were too daunting, yet they were enough to keep you occupied and in the working groove. 
Overall, it was a great experience that, due to the nature of the shift, allowed for a very flexible work week.

I can't believe how unorganized and unprofessional these people are. They don't respond to emails, they don't let people know if their shifts are cancelled (making people drive all the way to work and then be told to go home), and they'll call to end your assignment somewhere without a legit reason. I wouldn't recommend anyone ever going to these people for employment. All they care about is hiring as many people as possible so they can make money and stay in business. If I could give less than 1 star I would, so unimpressed. Oh and on top of that, from day one they have had my first and last name spelled incorrectly, and my rep is still addressing me by the wrong first name...
