The Oshawa Express

Oshawa Express is a standard paper route, however..... nobody pays the paper boy door to door anymore, which they continue to ignore/forget that. I've worked for them delivering papers to my neighbourhood since late June, and although good exercise and get to meet a few friendly faces, the law in Ontario clearly stated over a year and a hald ago a public ban on "dood to door sales and advertisements". This means going dood to door asking for money is illegal, but Oshawa Express continues to suggest/demand collections of $4 from each household I give to. I've remind the of the current law in place against this, but they will not listen to it and keep asking.

I'm afraid the Ministry of Labour should read this as soon as possible, if anything hope this site talks to Oshawa Express about this ongoing issue.

Working as a newspaper carrier for The Oshawa Express was delivering newspapers every Wednesday of the month, and collecting money once a month. I learned that going door-to-door was something I did not like. The hardest part of the job was going to houses that tell me they never wanted the paper and dealing with stubborn people, and weather. What I did enjoy about the job was being able to go outside and listen to music while delivering papers. I also liked the fact that I could deliver papers at any point of the day and not have a strict hour on when I had to deliver them. I could go early at dawn, or I could go at sunset.

I have been an employee of the Oshawa Express newspaper for 10 years, that should say it all, but this is one of the best companies that I have ever had the pleasure to work for. The working environment is very relaxed, the owners of the company are top notch, they value their employees and always give credit for a job well done.

Best decision I made 10 years ago.

once i started delivering the newspaper it was all fine. i took upwards of 172 houses but by the end i had 47. most of the people didn't want the newspaper and a lot of them said they had called in to say they didn't want it but i've never received a call from the company telling me that. All in all it wasn't that great but it wasn't the worst besides the pay and the organisation.

I was getting paid around 40 dollars a month delivering newspapers to around 100 houses in a neighborhood door by door every Wednesday. Not only that, you have to roll the newspapers up yourselves. Adding on to all that, you had to go door to door for all 100 houses and personally ask if they wanted to donate. Very underpaid as a kid.

I enjoy working there and you count on papers being there every Wednesday. I like all my bosses. When you call for help the supervisor is very helpful.

Easy to fall into this position as the relationship with the clients is great. Spent equal time in and out of the office meeting with clients. I really enjoyed this position and working with the other staff members. Everyone has a great attitude. Very positive work environment.

it was not a fun experience, i got a lot of mean people saying rude things about be bringing it to their door or that they didn't want the paper. i wasn't inside and it was cold in the winter and hard to carry around.

Enjoyable when on the road seeing clients, can be stressful at times, staff was fun, group activities. Meetings and reviews to see what works. And updates

minimum wage and very high expectations!
ask you to deliver in unsafe weather conditions and they do not care.
bundling staff VERY unfriendly.
do not waste your time with this company
