The job itself is not bad, taking care of plants is easy and quite relaxing. 

The worst part about working here is the management and the constant backstabbing between coworkers just to attempt to get ahead, not to mention hypocrisy.

Your daily tasks mainly consist of taking care of the plants (transferring starter plants to veg/flower rooms, dealeafing, structuring/topping, and harvest, whatever needs to be done for the day) and cleaning/sanitizing the tools after a days work. From time to time you will be asked to help with IPM duties (putting out beneficial bugs or scouting for pests/disease in the plants).

The most important thing I learned while working at Tilray is how to *not* grow marijuana. Aside from a few things, everything they do is detrimental to the plants health and can result in pests or disease. The only benefit to actually working here is getting hands-on experience with marijuana plants and building your confidence with handling the plant.

You will be guaranteed to get sick because there are no proper, working temperature control units within the greenhouse, causing you to go from hot to cold temperatures frequently.

At one point they changed the criteria needed to require a heat break because they were not meeting production goals, thus forcing their workers to do labour intensive work in 38°C+.

Management is hypocritical beyond belief. A new protocol was once introduced, and everyone was told there was "no tolerance" for  breaking this new protocol, and it was "immediate termination" for anyone caught doing so. Literally the next day, I observed several higher ups, including the person who made sure everyone knew it was immediate termination to break protocol, breaking said rules. There is too much fear among the workers actually on the floor to call out these higher ups for fear of punishment.

All of the people in charge of the fate of the plants have no idea how to grow said plants, and refuse to take any advice from anyone who actually knows anything about growing *any* plant. The growers do not get to make decisions on the plants here, so don't apply for a grower position if you think you'll have any say on the plants.

I would not recommend working here at all, because no matter how good of a job you do at work it all goes to waste because the people in charge make poor decisions. Try as hard as you might to keep those plants healthy, but they will always be sick and get sick just because of the way they have that place running.

Do not work here, I guarantee that your hard work will be valued more anywhere else.

I have two months of experience at Aphria in the manufacturing department.

This place has its moments of greatness, but overall the facility is a nightmare to work in. If you find yourself working in packaging/manufacturing (they changed the name a couple months ago), be prepared to work multiple jobs, in multiple locations across the facility, without any sort of structure.

You will never get comfortable here. In my first month, I was switched shifts in the middle of the week (and had to acclimate to a whole new squad), switched jobs (to a different machine, whole new squad again), written up ON MY FIRST DAY as an operator of said machine, and before long moved (with half of my NEW new squad) to an entirely different vault, learning another new job, with - you guessed it - another new squad.

On any given day, you don't know where you'll be working, who you'll be working with, or even if you know how to do the job they'll be asking of you. If you don't, they'll give you about fifteen seconds of training, then you're on your own. To make matters worse, disciplinary action happens quite often, and appears to depend NOT on how fresh/inexperienced you are, but simply on the severity of the mistake.

Pros
- Excellent coworkers, immediate friendships (even if you're socially awkward as I am)
- Decent pay, especially after 3 months
- Working with weed, the feel of a new industry

Cons
- Callous, and sometimes rude, management
- No chance to settle, or get comfortable with one job
- Long hours of standing, or sitting, in one place
- No access to bathrooms during work hours
- Increasing security measures, no electronics of any kind (unless you're in management)
- Completely unrealistic (in some cases, outright impossible) production goals
- Lots of down time; machines down for maintenance, or simple miscommunication across departments

Most jobs are confusing, awkward, and turbulent as you eventually find your place and settle down. Not this job. After two months, I was just as confused and nervous walking into work as I was on my first day.

What a bizarre place. Every time I think about it, it seems to overwhelm my brain so much.

Lots of challenges that's for sure. Often product faced challenges e.g. ants (some of which farm aphids), aphids, flies & other pests, mold, white powdery mildew, bud rot, etc (prevention is key). Very overwhelming – long hours, high heat, fast pace, the smell can get to you too. Examples are so numerous, I can't mention them all. Double Diamond's Partners with Aphria were sometimes present there, I eyewitnessed & endured some of their leadership having swearing tantrums at us.

Yes, it was stressful! A lot of odd stuff. So one needs a thick skin to survive. My nerves seemed to have improved for the better after moving on. If you end up deciding to still apply there, consider yourself warned. Not my cup of tea, that's for sure. Excellent alternatives elsewhere, at least in my opinion.

There was a person made lots of offensive & odd comments (some were lewd & discriminatory) e.g. graphically talked about attending lewd & exploitative parties out of the country, gawked at girls then asked them to come to his house to use his pool, etc. Even after he was reported to HR, he still continued it. Didn’t change much it seemed.

I personally saw firsthand some individuals walk around in their shorts with their leg hair exposed, hopefully that's stopped now. Strains, seeds & signs of plants showing stress, put people on edge. 

Being a migrant worker looked quite challenging, many told me they had fears of termination/deportation, issues with work safety, etc. A newsworthy article exists, about a one migrant worker whose hand was serious injuried which sadly I eye-witnessed. Disheartening disaster, horrifying & very sad to have seen it play out too that's for sure.

A contemptible place to work. Management is largely incompetent and without education or training in how to treat people with basic decency. Managers will make vague or veiled threats and treat workers like serfs or peasants. It's pretty much the entire gamut of managers, as well -- all seemed thoroughly unprofessional and disinterested in learning how to manage, treat people with dignity and respect etc.

As well, there is a great deal of downtime due, ostensibly, to managerial incompetence, ignorance and inexperience. This will lead to being sent home early and frequently, and making under the 32k/year they are so very gracious and magnanimous to offer. In the event they don't send you home, they will make you perform pointless busy work that is not in your job description and will also ridicule you while you do it. Cleaning toilets is one of their favourite make work tasks and so too is pulling weeds.

With regard to performing the actual work, it is long hours and a lot of repetitive motions. If you value your physical health, then this is a job you wouldn't want to do for more than a few months -- provided you're OK with the managerial mind games and bullying tactics? 

All told: high park farms is a gig of the lowest order, to be used to extract a little quid and then tossed out like the cheap, disposable harlot of a job she is.

I was here for 2 months.  All was good for a bit until a job came up for grabs.  Deliberate bullying, having people brought into the maintenance room to see the 'joke' was beyond childish.  There were no suspensions or anyone losing their job over it.   Then I was pulled aside a day or so later and told I was saying things about the main supervisor of our department.  Which I did not!! Being told I would never be in packaging because I did not have a college education is what did it for me. I was also told to cheer up.  With my illness, I was killing myself for a job.  With the backstabbing and no advancement,  10 hour days and no family life.  Exhausted all the time, the stress of having to work with someone that clearly had anger issues.  I proved my integrity and tried to get my daughter in....but after her interview, they told her to come back in January after family vacation.  But yet, others were hired and got time off for vacation before their 90 days.  The only good thing about here, I was allowed to bring home the coolers the bugs came in.  They were used for feral cat shelters.  At least they weren't put in the landfill.  I offered to keep picking them up, only once did I ever get a message to come on by.


If you like being stressed and pushed to work harder everyday, then this is your place!  I do miss a few people, but hey, its not like we talk outside of work.  Don't trust anyone!!  Keep to yourself!!

Tilray lacks in training. They claim to have a system in place, but this is not true. I worked there for more then 12 months and was only given documents to read on every procedure. There was no one on one training, or follow ups. They just place you with the team and you get to work. Yet they have very high expectations and hold the workers responsible if any mistakes are made. HR is completely for the company and protects upper management. Not only was I bullied, but I witnessed many other get verbally abused and bullied, and when these issues were taken to HR it quickly got swept under the rug and many time resulting in the victims getting let go. They also maintain being understaffed, and continuously over work their employees. Being busy is good, and overtime is good, but when your employees are sick, mentally ill, stressed, not getting sleep and not eating, you are over working them. This is not a good work culture to be in. There are many great people who work here, and some amazing job opportunities, just remember that they pay well because you will not get trained, you will be doing 3 peoples jobs, and you will be looked down upon and put on the "less reliable" list if you don't work every second of overtime that they ask.

Read and believe the negative reviews.  I personally worked in Nanaimo, but the management doesn’t sound like it’s doing much better in Ontario.  You are not rewarded here for any effort - both salary and bonus wise.  You can try to believe that you will be noticed for the hard work you put in to stand out and then compensated for your diligence, but it’s just not the case.  It’s actually astonishing how poorly managed this company is, how often they blatantly lie without shame and how many employees have walked out in the last year.  Those who are thinking about working here - know that the previous employees were hired at $17.50 base rate, were then treated like absolute garbage and left.  Management really has no idea what’s going on, they do not communicate and seem to fill up their time with “make work” projects to inflate their importance - especially in production and especially the director of production.  Make no mistake - this billion dollar business is being run by clowns.  Their starting wage has been dropped by a couple of dollars and if you’re willing to raise your stress level, have your work go unrewarded, while they take advantage of you and use your back as a stepping stone then feel free to try to make a difference.  Anyone else who’s been working for a while - you know what I’m saying and steer clear of this company.

The moment you walk in the door you are greeted and acknowledged by fellow co-workers with "good mornings" and casual conversation. For it being such a large company you normally would never except such positive consistent vibes from everyone. The management is very helpful and friendly, with a complete open door policy to assist you with any concerns or needs. The company offers high wages and good benefits to all full-time employees. As far as advancing in the company they post all jobs internally and speaking from personal experience I advanced with 6 months!!

My favorite part of work is definitely the people I am surrounded by. It truly makes for an enjoyable day. As I mentioned early - I get excited for Mondays to come !! (Who would have ever thought)

I started off in the greenhouse and I've noticed everyone is in good spirits and work hard. Obviously within any company if you have a sour attitude and bad work ethic than that is why problems concern.

Overall I would highly recommend working at Aphria, I will say that it will forever higher your expectations though.

I wish I was kidding. Tilray is the first job position I have ever actually ‘quit’ because of the horrendous work environment, and I’ve worked some terrible jobs and put up with some ridiculous things. They do not care about you at Tilray. If you aren’t already part of upper Management you get treated with little to no respect or like you don’t even matter. They claim to have ‘systems’ and ‘training’ in place... all my training was was given a stack of paperwork to read? No hands on work, hard to actually speak with anyone to ask questions because they belittle you and wonder why you’re asking anything. ‘Training Week’ was also a disaster in that they didn’t provide a schedule - having to consistently ask at the end of every day when you’re coming in the next day and getting told you can’t have a schedule yet.... makes no sense. I have never been spoken to in such a demeaning and belittling way than I was by ‘Management’ in this company. We all deserve better. In my short time there I seen so many employee change overs and now I’m not at all surprised why I CONSTANTLY see job postings for Tilray. Do yourself a favour, save your time and effort, and don’t apply. They aren’t worth it.

Trust and fear cannot co-exist in the same place. People who pretend they can co-exist are afraid to admit what their body knows: managerial fear overpowers trust every time.

Either the leaders in an organization trust their employees, or they don't. They only hire yes-men and yes-women to work for them. Anyone with a backbone will not last working for the fearful. 

Confident leaders trust themselves enough to hire people they can trust.

They don't watch their employees like hawks. They don't enact rules and policies to cover every situation, because they know their employees will rise to every challenge.

They don't set up control mechanisms to keep people from using their native smarts and ingenuity. They don't measure every keystroke and every minute spent on any activity.

Managers talk about collaboration and out-of-the-box thinking but no one takes them seriously.  You cannot get collaboration or new ideas from beaten-down employees.

The HR people specialize in assigning work, measuring results, punishing infractions and maintaining order. What ever happened to listening to employees, problem-solving with them, celebrating successes and envisioning even greater successes?
