During my time at TTCC, I built strong and lasting relationships with both my instructors and many of my coworkers. I truly valued the camaraderie and mutual support among the team on the ground. Unfortunately, behind the scenes, the workplace culture presented challenges that made it difficult to thrive. Office dynamics often felt reminiscent of high school cliques — surface-level friendliness masking deeper tensions and misplaced priorities. Once you fall out of favor with certain management figures, the environment can quickly become unwelcoming.

Many staff members, including myself, experienced sudden terminations without prior notice. Navigating the process of receiving termination pay or final compensation became an uphill battle, even when it was legally owed. It was disheartening to witness how undervalued instructors and support staff often were, despite the hard work and dedication they brought to their roles every day.

There were also systemic issues with how students were charged and how resources were maintained. Students were often hit with steep penalties — as high as $240 — for missed or late-canceled lessons, even after paying for tuition, with little transparency on where those funds went. Equipment such as trucks and trailers frequently broke down, and getting necessary repairs done was often delayed due to internal inefficiencies and too many people trying to control the process.

Though I’m grateful for the personal connections I made and the lessons I learned, my time at TTCC revealed the importance of working within an organization that values transparency, fairness, and respect for all team members.

When I started with TTCC I was excited and proud, as I believed the company had a good reputation. I had applied for the position “admissions coordinator” where they listed that I’d be responsible for assisting office staff with admissions. Little did I know when I came in on my first day I found out I was actually the new Campus Manager and was responsible for students and trainers. From the moment I got to the office no one greeted me, no one introduced themselves and the feeling was I was not welcome. My trainer was not even from the Sudbury office and was sent down to train me, and would later be leaving. While the sales training was easy, the campus manager training only lasted 3 days  and was disorganized and unhelpful. By the time I started my first week I was overwhelmed and thrown into the deep end and expected to manage this campus alone aside from the ability to call co workers for help “if they were available.” As if that was not enough the entire schedule and current enrollment of students was very disorganized because the last campus manager didn’t do their job and nothing was ever fixed. My trainers were also not very good at communicating and by the time I finished my first week one trainer had quit. My other trainer quit the week after. I felt helpless, how can I do my job like this? I also found out I was being shown how to do students marks when that was not even something I was responsible for. This company is disorganized and confused. The employees are frustrated and way underpaid. Do yourself a favour and don’t bother. 

TTCC helped me get my instructors license and go through the process so I could work with them. They pay for the hotels, the car, the insurance, everything to help you set up and get into the industry with support from knowledgeable staff along the way. A typical day is logging into the scheduling software and driving from student to student for 1 hour or 2 hour lessons. 

At the end of the day, it is up to you to make sure your students feel ready and have the skills developed so that they can pass their exams. It takes effort and practice from the student and teacher, so have a good learning plan, every student learns at a different pace! Finding the right pace of each student, and making sure everyone is safe by practicing proper scanning/checks all while developing good turning and braking can be challenging, can also be fun and exciting.

I believe I've learned how to foster a positive and engaging environment for learning in otherwise stressful conditions (encountering busy roads or inattentive/bad drivers), it's all about creating a safe space while paying attention and keeping focus on the road. The most enjoyable part is seeing my students get their license! 

Training people how to drive a transport truck right from scratch, is very stressful, to say the least. It takes a special kind of patient, caring, knowledgeable, and well-experienced trainer to do this job. If you don't have patience, then don't even think about doing this because it will drive you absolutely crazy. It's MUCH easier to drive a truck for a living. As far as the company goes, I wouldn't say it was awful but there was room for improvement like any other school. The trainers play an integral part of the whole operation because these are the folks who are on the front lines and positive word of mouth advertising is so important after the student leaves the school. The trainers essentially will make or break the school's reputation. It all depends on how the trainer is treated by Management and how dedicated the trainers are to the Student's success throughout the training. I absolutely enjoyed working for TTCC at the time and I loved my job. After about 5 years however, I needed to move on because the stress of the job was affecting me.

TTCC is the only driving school in Canada that provides literally everything you need for doing your job as an in-car driving instructor, plus extra perks that go 
 way above and beyond industry standards. Your car is provided along with fuel, insurance, equipment, regular maintenance/repairs, etc. It's very modernized with usage of software apps, notifications/reminders. Plus they give you benefits, and paid holidays! They are also very flexible in letting you self-schedule (with office backup when needed) or if you don't want to self-schedule, they'll do all the work for you. There's no lack of students either. It's a win-win scenario in my opinion.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Love the job but lots of bosses so doing your own thing and giving your best gets you great rewards. Really good group of employees and I enjoy the challenge!!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Long hrs and mind stressful as an instructor.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Lack of knowledge might be the worst, of course dealing with inexperienced examination personal!!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Teaching from educated knowledge and experience and making sure the students absorbs it. Many ways to pass on the information.

My position was pretty straightforward although I did end up doing almost every possible job in the office at some point due to illness/low staff. 

The office itself had great people working there and interacting with them on a daily basis was great. I definitely miss that!

I didn't personally agree with some sales tactics that were suggested by the company or recommended by my direct manager. Overall though, the direction was mostly good.

The company was supportive in need for time off for various reasons throughout my tenure. 

Hardest part of the job was that it tedious at times. 

I also didn't feel like there was room for advancement from my position.

Head office insists on keeping equipment barely legal.  At times training clients on trucks that were unsafe and in need of repair and to wait to the point of lights that don't work, bald tires, and engine problems of various nature
Head office tends to ignore the needs of clients and  employees in general it seems they (head office)  is in it for money no matter the outcome I am sure the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities would not be impressed to see how their funds are being spent.
Had to sue for monies owed to me

I would never recommend anyone to work for this company. they treat there employees EXTREMLY poorly and constantly yell and scream at you. you never get a " good job" or "your doing well" its always you effed this up etc. They rip there students off with hours I myself have seen it hands on. 

The management is so terrible I have never been mis-treated so much in my entire life. they belittled me and bullied constantly. the amount of anxiety walking into that place was unbearable. If your looking for employment I would suggest you do not take a position within this company as they are NOT a good company to work for.

When first started working it was ok, with a great office manager.  Layoffs occur without notice every summer when things get slow. If you get called back, they expect you there right away. Then same thing the next year.
Equipment is the biggest issue. Trucks are old and constantly breaking down. It is not uncommon to have one or trucks in the shop for days or weeks. 
This causes issues with the students training taking far longer than it should.
Communication for students that have to deal with head office can be very strained.
