What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The gossip and nasty care aides and nurses playing on their phones and not caring about anything but themselves and management with there head up their rearend. Favouritism runs extremely high so if you’re not a  butt kisser do not work there. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Absolutely horrible. The care aides rush through their work so they can sit around the nurses station and gossip and the nurses do nothing. This is because the nurse are to busy diagnosing residents and talking to men on Instagram on their phone. And yet management does nothing. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Giving meds, doing wound care, dealing with families, charting and dealing with insubordination from care aides and other nurses.

Even though it is unionized they do not adhere to any part of the union. You will never get a day off and are asked to work OT all the time.  If you decline OT they will hate you and you become dead to them.  Even if you are exhausted and need a designated day off.  Zero management, you are completely on your own to figure everything out for all residents.  Dealing with all the hostile family members is an added bonus.  They are aggressive and demeaning and with no management to deal with any of it you get to take the verbal abuse.  When the management does make an appearance they put on a fake act like they are very involved even though I doubt they could name all of the residents. Very cliquey and isolating as they only like to hire a certain type of employee.

My teammates were always pleasant and accommodating. It is only the management that is the problem. Nobody has a clear set of responsibilities. Everyone is perplexed about their role. The kitchen is really small. Management provides no assistance in the kitchen. Furthermore, management makes lofty promises that they cannot keep. And since I left, they've modified the wage structure. Previously, it was $26.51/hr for a casual/on-call work with no weekend perks. Since I left, the compensation has been increased to $27.40, but there are no weekend or other benefits. Even cooks have no set responsibilities.  And if you decide to take this position, make sure everything they say is written down because these folks are prone to changing their views. 

I had a wonderful experience working under a fantastic supervisor. It made my experience here 10x better! I think we all have to remember every job is going to have pros and cons. For me this position has cons, you often have to go above the job description due to staff shortages in care homes, but the teams you work with often make it worth while. 
I would like to also add, I wish trillium would make wages more competitive. Make raises more often, encourage your solid employees to stick around by dropping wage raises now and then, and perhaps little perks like fuel compensation, or even a timmies gift card once and awhile for our caffeine fix! 

There are better entry level jobs for new grads, there are better jobs for mid career- why anyone would leave VIHA and their pension to work here is beyond me. Benefits are not as good as VIHA. Pay is not as good. Culture is toxic and they are becoming more institutionalized and all for profit. They are leading with the idea that everyone is replaceable which results in high turnover rates. Can’t keep RCAs, they become so burnt out. Drive a little farther, add to your education and skills and find something better than this for yourself. 

Care home is very competitive and care aides are all very unprofessional and LPNs have no clue how to do their jobs. You have one who loves to diagnose and another who loves to talk men in the med room on her phone on Instagram and also wears EarPods on the floor. As for management they are clueless to any of this and favouritism runs real high. So if you want to work in a totally unprofessional environment this is the one.  

people where mostly nice, job was easy, but management was the worst i have ever seen. so disorganized and unprofessional, my hiring process was a trainwreck. they sent me a job offer and then tried to tell me they gave someone else the job before begging for me to take it. they have a ridiculous policy you are not allowed any kind of time off until you have worked for a full year.

Don't work here. Unsupportive and unreliable management, and not a pleasant place to work. Bad practices and low standards contribute to poor working environment. Management does not care about you and do not want to resolve issues. Would rather fire you then work towards a resolution. 

Love the amazing care team I work with as well as the residents. It would be nice if we got more appreciation for what we do, especially working during this pandemic. Most have gone above and beyond with little or no recognition from the higher ups. Management at SCM has been amazing and it’s slowly improving!

Work goes by fast when you are having fun. The residents are delightful. I always feel safe at work with the residents we have.  Early morning can be challenging  but when we work together we meet the needs of the residents. Also we learn from each other when we work together.
