What is the best part of working at the company?
Security. Excellent pay. The very best benefits any company could offer. Being able to work independently and being outdoors. Building a relationship with the customers and being the positive side of someone’s day. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Being on a strict time schedule. Taking on a lot of work. The better you are at your job the more work they will give you. Everything is time time time regardless of events occurring out of your control you are expected to be on time with every delivery. Having an inefficient loader a miss loaded truck and trying to find your packages. Working in the warehouse, having to be to work at 4am loading trucks with a supervisor looking over your shoulder pushing and pushing for you to hurry as you try not to make mistakes or your driver will have a terrible day.Either way the job is all well worth the stress. The results are priceless. An early retirement with the best benefits any company could offer. If your good it’s job security and a secure future for years to come after retirement.Dont take anything personally. Do what’s asked of you and keep pushing forward and you’ll succeed here. Can be extremely stressful but there are excellent values and life lessons to learn at UPS. Have the right attitude entering in with this company. Good work ethics are necessary with great self discipline. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Whatever you want it to be.You create the environment.Do what’s asked of you don’t say no to anything that’s asked of you don’t make it personal keep it professional but have fun too. Every hub is different. The management plays a big role in the environment so it’s hard to say. Some centers are very clicky. Some gossip more than others. Some employees have ongoing feuds which make a hostel  environment. Some people will walk over anyone to advance. You can’t trust anyone. Everyone’s out for themselves. But if you don’t gossip don’t get caught up in the things that don’t matter keep your head on your work do what’s asked of you and don’t have the entitlement  attitude then you will have a happy place to spend your workday. Communicate well with your superiors and be friendly to everyone without saying too much. It is a very diverse place. People with all ethnic backgrounds all different personality types all ages and no discrimination that I ever saw as a whole. If anyone feels they’re being picked on for any reason by management it’s not because of your race it’s because they are trying to build strong leaders that under extreme pressure can follow all the methods and have a successful injury free day. Every worker feels the pressure from management but that’s because everyone has someone above them they have to answer to who’s putting the pressure on them. It all comes down to safety too. If your working safely that’s number one even you feel like it’s all fake. Hurry hurry hurry but be safe! The environment only becomes hostile when everyone is put under too much pressure for time with heavy volumes. But it thins out the weak as these people quit. Just remember you can’t control others only yourself. Do your job do it well. Don’t be afraid to ask questions while your in the learning process and if you fail get up and try it again. It’s worth it. Trust me. I’m no longer there but wish so much I could be.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I have held many different positions with UPS. Driver, Center Supervisor, dispatch, customer service and health & safety supervisor. As a driver arrive early and greet your coworkers. Pick up your supplies needed for the day and download your route. Print out your route map if needed. Make sure I have all the tools I’ll need for the day. A charged battery in my DIAD pens, info notices for non deliveries and a dolly if needed for large packages all prior to clocking in.Meet with my team for our daily PCM communication meeting where you get important information and updates to what’s happening policies not being inforced or concerns as well as encouragement and positive feedback. Group stretches and morning exercise before starting the day. Deliver next day air and critical care packages first. Must be ontime no exceptions. Deliver packages take two 15 min breaks and one 30 min lunch. Keep packages organized for a quick delivery. Work like someone is always watching. Communicate with management throughout the day with concerns missing packages etc. finish route and be back to the building at the time expected. Park your car check in with management turn in any next day air packages you received along your route to a specific area by a specific time.clock out check in with management before going home. Dispatch I answered phones and scheduled pickups. Assigned pickups to the driver assigned to that area. Managed the drivers taking their calls for concerns. Juggling misleads coordinating meeting spots for drivers to swap packages.Liason between the drivers and the customers.customer service problem solving missing packages.walk the building for any packages left behind that morning or that have been placed in the wrong area.Help with the new hires in getting their paperwork completed and online training document requirements,place key customers on a special board and monitor their pickups. Alert drivers of any changes to their scheduled day. Assist the center business manager with any special tasks that may come up throughout the day. Clock out at exactly when your shift ends. They are very strict about that.never work off the clock never work over the clock. As a health and safety supervisor I had to arrive to work at 4:00 am daily. Have a display set up with a demonstration of working safely or a health related topic. Interact with each employee as they entered the building getting them to engage with you the information you are sharing for the day through fun games reminding them of their safe work methods exercises to lower the risk of injury. Walk the building watching for those who are working extra safe and recognizing them with a gift, keeping spreadsheets and track of every employees compliance trainings such as how to handle hazmat materials yard control rules conveyor securing if the belts that carry the packages. Preparing monthly meetings assigning a safety leader for each section of the hub to oversee their area and be sure everyone’s practicing their safe work methods. I put data in computer. Photographing each new employee and submitting for their ID Badges.

The amount of hours you get per week can vary randomly between 15-30, and although it's a part-time position for an extremely large and profitable company, you work entirely on their schedule and at their whim. Start times change every day, end time is whenever the supervisors decide they don't need as many people around. This is a unionized position, which is good, but what isn't good is that it's unionized with monthly union dues at *minimum* wage. Between the inconsistent hours, the dirt pay, and losing extra money every month to the dues, which also includes a $200 fee just for joining the union, financially you get next to nothing out of working here. There is absolutely zero flexibility in what hours you work, and is Monday-Friday, meaning it feels like you're working a full-time job just to earn $200-$320 after a full working week. The work itself isn't bad, but is made bad depending on where you're working in the warehouse, because specific sections of trailers that get loaded do not receive ANY backup help from the supervisors unless absolutely necessary. If you get stuck somewhere in the back, even if you're drowning in packages it is unlikely the supervisors will do their job and distribute the loaders to accommodate the package volume. What this means is that you can potentially be left with a significantly more difficult and taxing job than loaders in the foremost trailers, simply because they're given 3 men to do a 2-man job, while you can be stuck loading multiple trailers alone. There is extremely little balance between work areas, and some of the supervisors do show blatant favouritism, deliberately sending some employees to help do already fully-manned jobs so that they can stand around. It's happened enough that there are complaints. 

Again, the work itself isn't that bad outside of peak season as long as you deliberately put yourself on a slow pace (you're paid minimum wage, give them minimum wage if they're gonna let other people getting the same amount of money do absolutely nothing), and don't care about losing every weekday evening. The warehouse is also located on Annacis Island, which can be a nightmare to get to more often than you'd think solely because there's only two ways on and off the island. If there's an accident on one of the bridges, if someone tries to jump off, if there's road work, if there's a blizzard or heavy enough snow to cause traffic or crashes, it can take upwards of 2 hours just to get there, and if for any reason either of the bridges fully close, you are not getting on or off the island. Although it's nothing to do with UPS, you still have to take into consideration that you could be stuck working there until 2 AM if package cars come in slowly due to such a circumstance, because it's happened.

"We have a really high turnover rate", uttered by my second interviewer, should have been the alarm I needed to consider going elsewhere, but I stuck it out because of pre-conceived notions that this company was decent to work for. 

Heh, that's a joke and a half. This company is doing what many others think is just fine and dandy; cut the hours, ramp up the work, lose people due to hours and/or conditions or due to excessive expectations from supervisors/management, hire every week. God was I naive. The training was rather pointless, too, because almost nobody even follows it. That same interviewer turned out to be arrogant and insulting to just about everyone, even if they're new and still getting the techniques down, but what can you expect from a job like this. At least the union representative cared, listened, and was a good source of advice. Not that the latter would amount to much.

I got let go just in time for Christmas because I got inundated with a lovely truck that was packed as if by small children. Was given 45 minutes to do so, but even with another guy to help it took twice that time to get the work done. Was warned to pick up my performance in spite of the idiot supervisor knowing full well that the truck was not packed in a manner that would allow me to meet the expectations. I was a hard worker otherwise and wanted it to last as long as possible, but then I got that early Xmas present wherein I somehow didn't make the cut. Must note how that same week that was my last was also, according to the head supervisor of the floor, "one of the best weeks I have ever seen" performance-wise and so everybody got free pizza on that fateful day. After waiting forever for a supervisor to get me much needed work supplies, a different one came around to tell me the great news just in time for the holidays. He even shook my hand after walking me out the door. Was in too much of a trance from the blow to tell him to shove it where the sun don't shine. I hope the Grinch stole his Christmas.

And even if I stayed there, the minimal number of hours and scumdoggery of the supervisors ensured very little security for me in the job. The salary looks good, and the union dues make very small dents in your overall pay, so that's okay. But Heaven forbid the workplace slow down and they tell you you can go home because there's nothing to do, only to lose pay because of it. Why even hire people in the first place if you're going to allow people to lose money during the FREAKIN' HOLIDAYS because you don't have enough work to distribute to everyone? Have fun constantly (and pointlessly) training people every week because you're only going to keep one in a million.

I don't recommend this job to anybody.


Working at The UPS Store has been a frustrating and disappointing experience for several reasons:
Poor Management: The management team is disorganized and lacks effective leadership. They are often unresponsive to employee concerns and fail to provide clear guidance or support. This creates a chaotic work environment and leaves employees feeling undervalued.
Inadequate Training: New hires receive minimal training and are expected to quickly learn on the job without proper guidance. This leads to confusion, mistakes, and a steep learning curve that could have been avoided with a more structured training program.
High Workload: The store is frequently understaffed, which results in employees being overworked and stressed. During busy periods, the workload can be overwhelming, and there is little to no support from management to alleviate the pressure.
Lack of Communication: There is a significant communication gap between management and staff. Important information is often not communicated in a timely manner, leading to misunderstandings and errors that could have been easily prevented.
Low Compensation: The pay is not competitive, especially considering the amount of work and stress involved in the job. Additionally, there are few benefits offered, which makes it difficult to feel valued and motivated.
Unpredictable Scheduling: The work schedule is highly inconsistent and often changes with little notice. This makes it challenging to maintain a work-life balance and plan personal activities.
Unhealthy Work Environment: The overall work environment is unhealthy, both physically and emotionally. The store is not well-maintained, and there is a lack of support for employees dealing with difficult customers or stressful situations.
Limited Advancement Opportunities: There are very few opportunities for career growth or advancement within the company. This makes it hard to stay motivated and see a future at The UPS Store.

Overall, my experience at The UPS Store has been unsatisfactory. The company needs to address these critical issues to create a better working environment for its employees. Until significant improvements are made, I would not recommend working here.


A typical day as a UPS preloader involves waking up between 3:00am and 4:00am for work. Once you arrive for your shift, you'll be informed that 2 to 3 people have called in sick and you will be assigned additional duties to cover for them. This is a daily occurrence. You will not be paid for the additional work load. If you do not work fast enough, your supervisor will yell at you. The irony of mistreating the only workers that show up for their shift will be lost on them.

Your UPS Manager doesn't care about you. He just wants you to do whatever job he tells you to do, and be quiet while you do it. If you have a problem, he doesn't want to hear about it, and he will tell you there is nothing he can do to help you. Need time off? Death in the family? Mental illness? He doesn't care. He will hold you to your work responsibilities. Physical injury at work? He'll blame you and pressure you not to file an insurance claim. That way he gets his bonus at the end of the year.

Workplace culture. For the most part, your coworkers are friendly. You'll joke around, probably even meet at the pub for drinks every couple months. But you'll notice how most conversations at work revolve around the absolute lack of safety, honesty and structure at work. People get injured and management tries to cover it up. People who call in sick are ridiculed by management and given guilt trips in order to manipulate them into coming to work.

Bottom line is, if you work for UPS nobody will have your back. If you're the type of person who is willing to mistreat others for your own personal gain, UPS Management will welcome you into their training program. If you are willing to put your head down and quietly work 12 hours a day, UPS will gladly hire you as a driver. If you are anything other than these two things, stay far away from UPS. 

Oh and by the way, they advertise that you can make up to $30/hr as a preloader with $3000/semester in tuition reimbursements. Let me tell you that you start at minimum wage and it takes 4 years to reach $30/hr. On top of that, your raises are extremely slow in hopes that you quit before you reach the 4 year mark (most people do). By that I mean you only make between $0.50 and $1.00 raises every 6 months for the first 3 and a half years. Also, tuition reimbursements can take anywhere from 9 to 12 months to be "processed". Many of my coworkers had to wait an entire year to be reimbursed.

I’m currently employed with Health Care UPS Supply Chain Inc. as a Quality Assurance Specialist. QPIC and RPIC. I am actively involved in maintaining quality compliance within the facility, as well as with external clients. At UPS SCS, I am grateful to not only have gained valuable hands on experience & knowledge in health care regulation, quality and distribution, but also have sharpened essential skills for personal growth. My dedication, reliability and hardworking character have brought positive contribution to past and current employers and appreciation from the colleagues and seniors whom I worked with.

As a postgraduate from the Intensive program of Regulatory Affairs at Toronto Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology (TIPT), I have gained a strong academic profile in Health Care legislation, procedures and practices for regulating the development, manufacture, quality assurance and marketing of pharmaceuticals, natural health products and medical devices. In a former employment at Lorus Therapeutics Inc. as a regulatory affairs specialist, it provided me with further hands on experience which developed and strengthened my technical skills, and an opportunity to apply and integrate knowledge to real-world work settings.
As I make the transition to the current role of Quality Assurance Specialist/QPIC/RPIC at UPS SCS, the valuable experience has again broadened my professional knowledge and skills through corporate coaching and on-going self learning. I’ve very much enjoyed the involvement of various tasks and responsibilities. My proficiency in deliver accuracy results in a timely manner and on-going enthusiasm has impressed my seniors and colleagues at UPS. Over the course of employment at UPS, I have also acquired and improved essential skills such as multi-tasking, attention to detail, assertiveness, problem solving & critical thinking; and task prioritization and time management. Mostly importantly, possessing strong interpersonal skills such as leadership, communication, managing conflicts, motivation for others are crucial abilities to be in a leading role and a good team player.

I started at UPS in the summer. Initially i had 3 criteria requirements when I was looking for a job:
1 good company
2 better than Minimum wage
3 warehouse setting
Ups had all three of these things. Despite some negative feedback ive read online this job is a good place to work. The hours are rough when starting (you might only get 20 hours a week in the beginning) but there are lots of extra hours if you ask. Its a physical job(loading and unloading trucks and semi trailers) but if you're a physical person and like exercise, this job is perfect for you. They pay better than Minimum wage, overtime starts after 5 hours daily, so theres opportunity to make decent money depending on how many hours you're willing to work. 
 Your hard work is appreciated by most  of management(my supervisor and manager) they care about your safety alot so they're quite strict about safety practices. The hours are strange. A regular shift starts at 4 and ends when the work is done. That could be  8 pm some nights and midnight on other nights. The people i work with are awesome and we ALL get along well like a work family. Our supervisor ALWAYS appreciates our work amd doesn't believe in "micro-managing"  hes bought us food as an appreciation token several times and they even provided me with new rain gear for washing trucks. They even offer "peak season" bonuses and have good benefits. We're even unionized so theres job security. 
Finally,  "workplace politics" exist there and some disorganization is present with miscommunication but what job doesnt? if you keep your head down and do your job, you stay off their radar. working at UPS is one of the best jobs I've EVER had and THE BEST warehouse job ive ever had (this is my 4th) no wonder they're a fortune 500 company. Working at big brown was a very interesting experience. The front line people are highly motivated and do an incredible job. The efforts of the team reflect their desire to provide superior customer service. A typical day is 10-12 hours, and it's pretty much non-stop. The physical and mental stresses are extreme,which provides a sense of accomplishment at having met customer and management expectations,and for generally surviving the day. The work volumes are ever increasing, which management says is a good thing. When one reaches the top end full time pay rate, the financial reward is satisfying with a nice benefit and pension package. (When I was in management, at a previous job, my employer told me that employees only need a union if the management is terrible, which I feel is an accurate assessment. )The shortcomings are the same as any multinational company, the larger it is, the more dysfunctional, sometimes to the point of absurdity. You really have to laugh,because there's no crying in logistics. The Teamsters try to work with the company, to provide a friendly,positive workplace environment, and they are kept quite busy. Is UPS the perfect company? No, but I like to hope that they're working on it. If you are energetic,highly motivated,and in great physical condition, and woke up one day and thought that you didn't have enough stress and aggravation in your life,well relax, there's a spot waiting for you. Working for  UPS is a lot like a marriage, both sides make a long term commitment to do their best for each other, but rest assured you will find out EVERYTHING IS YOUR FAULT. But seriously,in this time of economic upheaval, UPS is a seaworthy vessel  on the ocean of uncertainty, and has chartered a course for a sunny horizon.(TOO MUCH?)

I'm in a situation where I don't need the minimum wage job more so than I just like to work. Because of this the junior met team, area leaders will straight up ignore me because I have no problem putting in my 2 cents during the meetings we have at the start of every shift. It makes for a horrible work environment for someone in my situation. Receiving the silent treatment from team leaders is something I'd expect from 2 or 3 year olds.

Upper mat is however a different case, I have 2 people I can see as a last resort and they are both great at working through situations. 

The positive is I joined the union immediately, so no matter the stress I can't be fired so I just go with the flow of the situation. But, I guess I will say I'm extremely happy this is a short term opportunity for me. I feel horrible for the people there who have no choice.

If you meet good people its a great day, but if your stuck with some sour grape who won't stop bad mouthing procedures or gives out the silent treatment. Makes you want to run from the company. Because of the union these employees only have to do a minimum to stay safe.

Seeing a environment like I have witnessed over the pass month, I get the feeling this is a business where rules come down from a desk to the floor, and that's how it is. Makes me wonder when the last time a manager took a group of 4 or 5 people aside and asked, what do you need to make your job better, more efficient. 

This is a step I learned years ago as a manager, to pull small groups randomly that dont disrupt the work day, if you hear the same thing after 2, 3, 4 meetings. Figure out a solution to this issue.
