The best part of driving for Uber is convenience. I drive part-time and, as such, I can drive as often or as little as I want (I usually drive one evening per week).

Benefits are obvious - meeting LOTS of people and, assuming you enjoy driving like I do, visiting different places around your city (many of which you've probably never seen before!). Also, depending on how much you're willing to devote to your job, you can make some good money from tips and promotional opportunities.

However, Uber's drawbacks are numerous but, for lack of time and space, I will only touch on three of them. First, the app (upon which all drivers and riders depend) is mediocre on a good day and downright awful on most days. The information it provides is usually unreliable, often out-of-date, and the platform is unstable. In other words, don't count on it to be there for you, either to direct you properly or provide you with accurate information about your rider/driver. Second, the company is based on a ratings system which, while usually helpful, can often be unfair and inaccurate. In other words, ratings are often used in nefarious and retaliatory ways, which completely defeats the purpose and can needlessly ruin one's reputation for no other reason than a simple disagreement. Finally, fares are much more rider-friendly than they are driver-friendly. The amount of time, effort, and money that drivers devote both towards their vehicle as well as the safety and security of their passengers (not to mention the significant increases in fuel these last few months) deserves and demands much more financial recognition from Uber. Sadly, this has gone largely unnoticed and is largely reflected in the general bias that the company will give towards riders over drivers.

The benefits package and work-life balance were definite highlights of this role. The schedule was consistent with no evenings or weekends, and the health benefits and lifestyle credits were excellent.

That said, the work environment could be very challenging. The frontline nature of the role meant handling a high volume of emotionally charged situations with drivers. Conflict resolution was a regular part of the job, and while training was provided, real-world situations were often more complex than what training scenarios covered.

There were times when policy changes were implemented with limited communication, which made it difficult for frontline staff to answer questions confidently. Performance ratings were tied to driver feedback after each interaction, even when issues were related to policies, regulatory requirements, or system limitations outside of the employee’s control. This could create stress, particularly when delivering decisions that were not within our authority to change.

Support from leadership sometimes felt limited during high-pressure situations. While security was introduced in response to safety concerns, the overall environment could still feel tense at times.

This role requires a high level of emotional resilience, patience, and comfort with conflict. It can be rewarding for those who enjoy direct problem-solving and customer interaction, but it may not be the right fit for someone looking for a low-stress environment.

As an Uber driver, I have had a mixed experience with the platform. On one hand, it provides a great opportunity to earn extra income on a flexible schedule. On the other hand, there are some significant drawbacks that make the job less appealing.

First and foremost, the unpredictability of the job can be a real challenge. You never know when you will get a ride request or how long the ride will be. This makes it difficult to plan your day and can lead to periods of waiting around with no rides.

Another major issue is safety. While Uber does provide some safety features like GPS tracking and driver ratings, there is still a risk of encountering dangerous or aggressive passengers. I have had a few uncomfortable experiences with passengers who were drunk or confrontational, and it can be quite scary as a driver to be in that situation.

On the positive side, I have met some wonderful people through Uber and have had some really interesting conversations with passengers from all walks of life. It's also great to have the flexibility to choose when and where I work, which makes it easy to fit Uber driving around other commitments.

Overall, being an Uber driver has its pros and cons. While the job can be unpredictable and sometimes unsafe, it can also be rewarding and offer a flexible source of income.

Being an Uber driver can present numerous challenges that might make the job less appealing for some. One significant issue is the financial aspect; drivers often face high vehicle maintenance costs, fuel expenses, and insurance premiums that can eat into their earnings. Additionally, the fluctuating demand and unpredictable income can create financial instability.

The job also demands long hours behind the wheel, which can lead to physical strain, fatigue, and a lack of work-life balance. Safety is another concern, as drivers may encounter difficult or unruly passengers, potentially dangerous situations, and the risk of traffic accidents.

Moreover, the lack of employee benefits and protections can be a drawback. Uber drivers are classified as independent contractors, meaning they do not receive health insurance, paid time off, or retirement benefits, leaving them vulnerable in times of illness or economic downturns.

Lastly, the pressure to maintain high ratings and the constant competition from other drivers can create a stressful work environment. These factors combined can make being an Uber driver a challenging and often unsatisfactory job for many individuals.

Uber pays it’s drivers way too little to compensate for the miles, the gas, the wear and tear, the maintenance and the time you’re putting in everyday with your car.

The only positive thing about driving with Uber is the Flexibility but when it’s time to get your car inspected they warn you only 3 days before the deadline  so if you can’t get an appointment for another 3 weeks you can’t do Uber X or anything else except Uber Eats 

And You have to call Customer Service to request Uber Eats as your only option or else all your driving options are blocked which means NO INCOME until your car passes inspection. And Ofcourse Uber doesn’t cover the cost of inspection so the driver has to pay. Just like gas, maintenance etc…
So basically you’re paying to get work. 

But while you’re  doing Uber Eats in the meantime you’re only getting paid about 5$ for driving  25 minutes to a customer who MIGHT tip extra or not. 

Another problem is that if you’re living in an area where’s there’s already lots of Uber drivers, you might only get like one call an hour so basically it’s unsustainable and will only make you poorer and poorer.

Most Uber drivers do this gig  to survive inflation. 

When you factor in gas, repairs and depreciation of your vehicle you are basically working for less than minimum wage and in some cases for free.  There are times you can sit for 2 hours and make NOTHING! Some customers treat you like you're a low level person or like garbage. Some are insulting.  Some are terrible at giving you their location or don't place the arrow in the right place on their GPS.  Sometimes they make the pickup point a place you can't stop at and you have to go around the block and try again. Some keep you waiting for 10 minutes and get mad if you drive off. Sometimes you can drive 15 minutes or more to get to a location and they cancel just as you get there. Then you have to drive back because they are in an area where there are rarely trips. You just burned a lot of gas and your time for nothing. Sometimes people want to get food at a drive-through and you make almost nothing in waiting time. I have more but you get the picture.  DO NOT WORK FOR UBER unless you are bored with your life and just want to get out to talk to people.  The economics of being a driver do not made sense.

Uber is a really great company to work for,  I really enjoy meeting new people and welcoming them to my vehicle that I always keep smelling great and clean which customers do appreciate. The only issue in today's economy is the price of fuel. It's really expensive to be filling gas tanks at this moment and if I don't drive enough or have enough quality fares then  I can't make my fuel money back. Uber does sometimes give us great opportunities but we should be able to get a bit more help with a fuel surcharge by charging higher fares to the customer. If a  customer can afford to take an Uber to a fancy dinner or a night out at the pub or hockey games and concerts or work every single morning, then they can surely pay a bit more so Uber can keep more quality drivers on the road, some trips during this time, are simply not being charged enough in my opinion and now passengers are tipping less ans less know a days, as media and people in general think that tipping is simply not necessary. But when fuel is no longer the issue...watch out, because you can make a some serious cash driving for Uber. Overall I give Uber a solid 8.5 - 9 out of 10

I wasn't with this company long, as the job I was doing for them was typical contract work.

Dealing with their offices wasn't hard, the people were friendly and accommodating. 

A day at this job consisted of me driving all over Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, Nisku and Leduc, and collecting images for UBER's mapping project. 

Through this job I ended up learning about areas of Edmonton and the surrounding towns I'd have never known of otherwise.

I was an independent worker, and had VERY little contact with other drivers on the project. The only one I generally spoke with was the person I was switching off with when my weekly shift ended. 

The job wasn't hard at all. The hardest parts of it were just dealing with rush hour traffic, which is something countless amounts of people deal with on a daily basis anyway.

The most enjoyable part of this job was the fact I was working solo and only ever heard from the offices by phone when there was an issue, which was seldom.

This is by far the worst compagny i had ever to work for , they always under staffed , two meetings a day of 30 min + 40 to 50 interaction with angry customers a day  , the pressure to meet stats that you have no hands on , salary not competitive at all sadly that I had to do that job to survive for a certain period , some months we were only two employees and there is 12 desks for other employee but  nobody stays they always  hiring  because they always changing employees this place will definetly makes you feel like nothing not even like a number , managers some of the worst I had ever to deal with they give you a smile in the face and abuse of you at work and send u home after few months when they hiring other employees , they not actually looking to bring more help in,  they hiring to replace you because they know They pushed you to the burn out  I’m glad I quit that was one of the best days in that year the positif effect I had on my mental health was very very remarkable 

Lots of orders with zero tip. Always wanting us to drive more kilometers than we are getting $$ It doesn't even out. Everyday is a waste of my time, gas and patience . I am only doing this because I have 3 kids and I am in school and I need to make $$ somehow. Uber is a complete rip off for everyone except the higher ups. Uber now charges the customer more $$ but lays their drivers less. Makes no sense how this is even a legal job. I do NOT recommend this job to anyone. Most of the time they expect you to be a charity car because what they pay you does not even out with the money we spend as drivers to gas the car, maintain the car and try to make a living wage on top. It doesn't add up at all. If I was a single Mom trying to live off this money I would be homeless and starving.
