Working with Local 1325 Carpenters Union has opened up many doors. Prior to joining this membership in March 2012, I was a self employed General Contractor for over 25 years, and previously a Machine Shop Technician.

I attended 2 Post Secondary Institutions in Ontario, where I studied Mechanical Drafting Technician, then proceeded to obtain my Machine Shop Technician Certificate in North Bay Ontario.

My experience has been one which has dealt with multi disciplined trades, which enables me to understand the intrinsic workings of most every problem and being able to offer a solution.

It has been my pleasure to hold positions at the top of the management chain, however, when times were tough i was able humble myself and work amongst the ranks in order to complete the task at hand.

The best lesson I learned from my experiences, was that, our most important resources are our employees, as without them we would not be in business. However, far too often we fail to acknowledge this fact, and as a result are unable to retain the cream of the crop.

I pride myself on being able to be confronted with a seemingly negative experience, yet, grab the bull by the horns and work towards a positive outcome, thereby creating a win - win situation.

What is the best part of working at the company?
First it's not a company,its a Union,that means better money benefits and pension.The Carpenter Union has one of the best union pensions with,hourly pension around $9.00 per hr with time and a half pension and double time pension amounts.Do yourself a favour get trained and start earning a wage you can live on.God Bless Have a Nice Day!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not feeling any stress at all actually.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Good on both accounts ,Great people full of lots of constructing knowledge and expertise.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
10 hrs to 12 hrs on average,with 2 half hour breaks,and lots of safety to learn and follow.

- Extreme Hard Physical Manual Labour 
- Little Learning On The Job, All Heavy Slugging  
- Extreme Work Instability/Shortages Of Work  
- Bouncing To Jobsite To Jobsite/Extremely    Inconvenient, & Always On Call 
- 80% Job Sites Are Extremely Filthy, Greasy/Oily, & Are Just Complete Nightmares 
- Extremely Long Hard Hours, Slugging Away
- Too Many Other Cons To Make The List 


I have been a member of the carpenters union in Edmonton for many years. The job stewards and business agents do absolutely nothing for the members if they have issues on the job. They brought in non-union buddies, some with very little experience. Almost all of them became fm or gm’s or above. There is no work life balance. Work 58-60 hrs a week.

I would highly recommend joining the brotherhood as there’s great strength in unity. A fair wage with great Benifits and lots of opportunity to grow. They offer all kinds of training opportunities and opportunity to travel for work if you choose to do so

A great place for learning and improving our Job,work experience and family structure,  Most of the time family is supported and remember by appreciated

Great work place if you don't mind being on road allot to be able to stay working all year.  can be a dangerous work environment if you don't follow safe work procedures hours can be long depending on your call out

My knowledge in the trade has grown considerably ever since I started working with the brotherhood of carpenters. I have been able to utilize the skills I've attained on the jobsite to add value to growing companies in the trade.

Lack of skill progression and training offered for fourth term carpenters to challenge the exam. And become journeyman to train others. There is a big gap between 1& 2 nd terms and journeyman. Not planned very well.

Good pay learning new things every day.
Worked with different people all the time.
Sometimes have to work outside in bad weather.
