Was let go for a respiratory illness that I couldn't control and ended up missing a couple days of work because of it, it was a blessing in disguise honestly.

You're worked like a dog for an insulting wage in a hazardous warehouse/stockyard, lots of pieces of steel sticking out to get hurt on, random steel barbs, strapping and pieces of wood laying all over the ground. You're Expected to climb piles of steel regularly which is dangerous, housekeeping is abhorrent here. The horn on their forklift doesn't work and management doesn't care, I was told to just ignore it(really?). The MOL would have a field day here.

Lunch room has 3 inches of dust on everything and is an absolute disaster all the time. You are watched like a prisoner with your breaks, expected to clock in and out for every break and lunch. If you are a minute late clocking back in you lose 15 minutes of pay. Seriously?

Management aren't worth your time, however the guys on the floor including the supervisor are top notch and very welcoming to new guys and are more than happy to show you the ropes despite the very high turnover on the floor.

No uniforms until after your 3 month probation so enjoy trashing all of your clothes as this job is DIRTY.

There are easier, safer ways to make a living than working here.

The people in Delta  are kids in men/women’s bodys.  Management  are rude and dont like to help you learn. They throw you in this position and train you with very little info and when you ask questions they tend to humiliate you in front of the office with the expectation that you should know everything by now. Yup even in your first days there.  This is such a stressful environment. The pay is so low for the work expected. Would not recommend working here unless you are on your last end.  The language is very colourful too especially in the shipping office. 
You need to have a very thick skin to work in here. And they seem to want you to fail in your work so they can have something to complain about in their Monday meetings. “Very negative place”. Don’t do it unless you want to have drama in your life. 
Maybe ask them why there is such a high turn over in the reception area. And balance of workload is highly unfair. Unfortunately staff will not get to know you in the Admin role because they know you will not be around in 3 months. Tip: Look in managers calendar for your initials in 3 months time. That is your end date.  Very high turnover. 

The credit department is a mess, it is being run by a man that doesnt care about the employees' wellbeings, and who has slim to none knowledge about the actual workings of his own department, and would not be capable of training newcomers now that his entire Regina team has quit. The workplace is not covid safe, there is little sanitization and no one cares about social distancing. The credit department are fully capable of WFH, but the man running the department refuses to allow his workers to, or picks and chooses based on who knows what, despite productivity never being impacted when credit department was WFH in the early stages of covid. You definitely will be forced to do the jobs of others. There is absolutely 0 recognition for going above and beyond. The pay is also low for the industry. 
The only redeeming quality about the job was that the coworkers were great, but they have all since realized their worth and moved on.

- The vacancy doesn't match the description and the interview, you do whatever they tell you to do .
-  Management is terrible, a lot of contradicting what is said. 
- As far as safety is concerned, it's just terrible. You have to climb on trailers with material and the metal can be slippery and you can easily fall off, no gas torch safety among other things.
- No human respect and injustice.

To summarize, I really regret going to work here. I do not recommend this company for work! It is the worst place I have ever worked.

I am treated more than fair from Varsteel. I work hard and am recognized for this.  I started in an entry level position and moved up quickly as the company grew. I have worked with some excellent mentors. I feel the pay is competitive and the benefit package is better than my spouse. I have nothing but good things to say about Varsteel. I fully intend on retiring with them.

This was my first class 1 driving position and it is an excellent place to learn. While deadlines are important, safety is more important. There is always someone available to help make your deliveries safer. The major issue is how most deliveries are loaded in the first place, it takes time and consideration on behalf of an experienced watchful driver to make the loads deliverable. Training is lack luster at best. Always take your time and make sure your load is safe.

I worked in purchasing at Varsteel for over 7 years, only leaving because of a family move. During that time I moved up in the purchasing division. My direct manager was dedicated to the company but also to her team. I found her to be respectful to me and knowledgeable about the steel industry. I was there during the recession and I saw how management tried to keep people employed.  I would recommend this company to others especially the purchasing division.

Management seems  fair the work is tedious my only issue is the group lead on my shift was a serious bully... He never has nothing nice to say always blowing off incredibly rude judgmental/racial comments. Dirty looks screaming at you throwing things at you Micro managing you.... Its like he wants you to quit. The most toxic person who just brings waves of negative energy. Trust me this will severely lower you're quality of life not worth it at all. Also they have a serious rodent problem.

Was employed at red deer branch for many years. Top Management fell and everything followed, worked in the industry for over a decade and never was as bad as it was the last few years. I wouldn't not recommend or recommend, it's work and if you go for this type of job you better have some strength and backbone to stand up for yourself.....again it's all your choice. I had no choice but leave do to the top management at the branch.
