A typical day at work consists of interacting with at least 15-40 patients, assessing their needs and determining LASIK candidacy. I learned some basic concepts in ophthalmology. Management is approachable and flexible. The culture is very amicable, open, and supportive. The hardest part of the job is the overload of work some days, where amount of patients is double or triple the norm and it feels highly rushed - this visibly exhausts colleagues and shuts them down. Personally I find this invigorating. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is learning about a new scientific concept in relation to the field. Also, meeting very friendly and kind patients that make the job easier and pleasant (most patients are VERY kind!)

Overall great place to get experience, salaries are somewhat low, but fair in my opinion.

I have to say that it took me some time to believe that this can be - a team can focus on common goals, and with considerable flexibility allow its’ members do what  each does best. I guess this was my idea of how teams work, when I graduated, but I am not sure this has been the case in any of my previous workplaces. So when I saw how it is possible to collaborate - efficiently, and supporting each other, it blew my mind:). For once, I can see progress towards both my short-term and medium to long-term objectives, because they are realistic, and I have a chance to ask advice from colleagues, as well as some time to study, research, take a step back, if needed. I feel very lucky, and wanted to write this as I appreciate my colleagues a lot, as well as management. I understand would not be possible without both strategic and flexible leadership. It’s a great company, with a lot of potential, and good values.

The job itself allows progression through the company but they don't really care about their staff. The vacation is paid out only on accrual basis but if there is no one to fill in for your position, you can't take time off or face repercussions due to that. There is a lucrative benefit program as well quarterly (done in 3 month increments and paid out on the 4th month)- this gets paid out every 4 months- if you quit before a pay out day you are not compensated for your work, even if you worked hard for those benefits. The company itself does not operate on a level where they take their employees lives into consideration. I would say the job and work itself is highly rewarding but the company culture falls flat.

I've worked at VGC for almost 9 years now and my role has expanded quite a bit since I started. The company offers lots of growth opportunity, which is really great.  It is a fast paced environment but you are well supported in everything that you do.   Colleagues and upper management are helpful, very knowledgeable in their fields and remain human and approachable.     The workplace culture is A+.  Work life balance is a priority which means when you need to roll up your sleeves to get a job done, you don't hesitate.  The work itself is challenging and really rewarding.  I feel like I made a difference everyday in my team and with the work that I do.  We challenge each other and are open to trying new technologies / ideas in marketing.   I highly recommend working for VGC.  

Working for Gimbel a day would start off by being there 20 min prier to starting time.  Set up for the day such as, answer voice mail and direct them to with counselor they need or suited them. Make sure labels where addressed to the right Pt that was having surgery for that day. Unlock door for Pt. Answer calls and direct them to the right counselor, as well as booking Pt for their appointments, walking Pt to the surgery room, filling paper working for Pt for their Doctors, Work, or Registry. Fax prescription to pharmacy. Pulling fills from the back room and scanning them into the system. 
Best part of working for this company was the staff all friendly and treated like a family. as well as getting to know pt.

Receptionist duties such 
- welcoming patients by checking in and out 
- calling patients about their appointments and other necessities
- learning medical terminologies
etc.
It has a potential learning experience

Management is understanding and can be flexible. They try to assure and remind us about our duties and always appreciates the work. 

Great interpersonal skills and communication skills is what I learned about the job.

Being punctual is also what's important and something that I personally learned from this job as it deals about time management.

Enjoyable part of the job are the coworkers, they are very outgoing and are lovely humans.



I have been working for Vision Group Canada for 14 years and I still feel challenged every single day! We have an incredible team, where each person's opinion counts. My colleagues and the fact that I have a say in how I do things motivates me every single day. If you're looking for a fast paced environment in which you can bring your own 'flavor', this then VGC is the place for you! Plus we get to change people's lives everyday by giving them the gift of sight! I couldn't ask for a better job or employer!

The people you meet at VGC are incredible. It is also quite exciting to work for a company that helps provide medical services as you get to learn a lot of cool things throughout the process!

Although everything is quite fast paced and dynamic, especially in the context of the current pandemic, the environment at the head office is very positive. We often have get togethers (now virtual) and fun activities to help social morale! 

Such a fun working environment with great staff! The management were very supportive and are really professional. If you work in the clinic or surgical suite the hours aren’t a set schedule as you have to stay till the last patient is gone. Sometimes it is hard to get shifts if you are casual. Overall a great atmosphere with nice patients (most of the time).

Although I am still fairly new to VGC, I come from an extensive retail management background and I can honestly say that since day 1, this company and my peers have managed to restore my faith in what a great company should actually look like. Managers don't feel like "managers", they feel like actual leaders that are there to support you in your role and help you succeed. The sense of belonging, trust in one another, autonomy, and opportunity to learn more is ever present. I feel lucky to have fallen onto this opportunity.
