In my opinion, working at Pickering Volkswagen offered a mix of valuable sales experience and notable challenges. A typical day involved prospecting and following up with leads, providing product demonstrations, conducting test drives, negotiating deals, and crafting tailored emails and text messages to clients. There was also a strong emphasis on learning product knowledge, attending training sessions, walking the lot, handling trade-ins, completing paperwork, and generating leads through various methods, including referral marketing. During the winter months, tasks could also include physically clearing snow from vehicles on the lot.

The most enjoyable part of the role was interacting with customers and building relationships. I also found that some coworkers were supportive, and the environment could feel meritocratic and straightforward at times, which made it easier to stay motivated.

However, based on my experience, the onboarding process felt unstructured and lacked professionalism. There also appeared to be consistently high turnover, which made it difficult to build stability within the team.

From my perspective, management practices were inconsistent. While one manager could be supportive at times, there were situations where I felt employees were unfairly held responsible for broader operational shortcomings. This contributed to what I personally experienced as a stressful and, at times, toxic work environment.

A major concern for me was compensation. In my view, the way hours were tracked and compensated lacked transparency and seemed to rely heavily on managerial discretion rather than a clear, standardized system. This created concerns for me about whether all worked time was being fairly accounted for. Compared to other roles I’ve had, including positions outside the automotive industry, I felt the compensation and working conditions were not competitive.

Additionally, the volume of sales opportunities could be limited, which made it challenging to achieve strong earnings. Combined with what I perceived as below-industry remuneration and limited growth opportunities, it was difficult to see a long-term future in the role.

While I enjoy working in the automotive industry and found aspects of the dealership culture manageable, the compensation structure and overall management approach were, in my opinion, the ultimate dealbreakers.

I learned a lot while working in the wash bay and as a shuttle driver. I found a passion for detailing and driving all cars. I really enjoyed having the opportunity to drive all the newest cars and some off make vehicles as well. 
My customer service skills were put to the test in the close quarters environment of the shuttle car. It can get very personal very quickly. When the TDI emissions situation occurred, I endured many complaints and aggressive attitudes. But I was always able to diffuse the situation and offer a positive spin on things.If not, I would change the subject all together. I would always strive to be on time and take the best routes. If I was unsure on a route I would ask the customer for their opinion. I feel they appreciated being involved. Picking up and dropping multiple people off was a challenge, but was always solved with communication and knowledge of the city streets and local businesses. 
Washing cars for 8-10 hours a day may be an unbearable thought, but once you get in their and you see the before and after results, the satisfaction keeps you going. 
Occasionally the main Detail Technician would go on vacation, this would give me plenty of time to take on some detail work in between shuttle driving. I really enjoyed the before and after and will continue to pursue the skill of detailing vehicles. 
The fellow employees all work together to solve problems, I found the group to be friendly and fun to spend the days with. 
The management is top notch, I was very impressed. The three owners work along side the employees and are always accessible and willing to help solve a problem and offer advice. They are also very generous.
Overall, if you work hard and efficiently and show up with a fun personality, you will have a great experience.

St James VW Audi unfortunately doesn't believe in employee satisfaction, they are completely all about the customer and no one else.  

They hire you promising the world and once you're in the door you really see what a corrupt organization they are.  

Since Auto Canada took over the dealership and the GM changed hands that place has gone straight downhill.  They have an accounting dept that has no idea what they are doing, a GM who seems to think if you don't eat, sleep and breathe ST James VW Audi then you don't belong there, a Parts dept that can't order parts in a timely fashion and accurately to boot..

Coworkers are extremely two-faced and throw you under the bus and management lies to your face so long as they are getting what they want from you.  They also talk behind every customers backs on a daily basis.

As a person who also drives a VW and was very pleased to be offered a position there I can tell you honestly they are not a company anyone should work for because you will not be valued and appreciated and your own managers will not go to bat for you.  They will allow irate and ignorant customers to belittle you so long as they continue to make money.

Management is terrible in the service department..either on vacation or catching up with buddies in office, very discouraging to staff when mngr does no work, service manager overweight, his slack and lazy behaviour plays out into the workforce staff are like hawks watching and waiting to catch you do anything so they can tell on you and get closer with management , dog eat dog mentality no teamwork done here, staff are often bullies to other staff they don’t like (hiding their personal belonging, making fun of you etc.) revolving door of staff everybody’s computer screen are usually browsing indeed! They will hire anybody off the street, no teeth, bad hygiene, poor communicators, trailer trash. This company treated the covid 19 layoffs like garbage promised to stay in touch, never did. If you get in with the inner circle you can’t do any wrong in there eyes, that’s if you get in (bms gms gsms) the more work you put out the less you get in return, always a fight to get payed properly. Forced to do 7 different jobs with basically minimum wage. Just overall embarrassing to call an establishment. 

Working for other dealerships i will say this was one of the better in the city, there monthly guarantee salary was very decent. the employees on the sales floor were decent to work with, wasn't to much "sharking" at this place, however fair warning most of the staff here are die hard VW fans and everything else is just a joke in the eyes of most. so fair warning you may stand out if you don't think VW is superior. Most of the managers are fairly decent there and actually offer good support and advice when it comes to business, i only had a problem with one manager, the negative mood swings of this individual on days would really lower the morale of the department. overall not a bad place to work arguably one of my more favored dealerships to work for.

Rarely does management hand out phone lists! they do have weekly   phone training, its a bit tedious but not to bad, how ever no pages of clients to call, Rare to be doing cold calls here

As Service Manager a lengthy hiring/onboarding process was understandable.  Information about this organization given was false and untrue in terms of culture, general management and corporate management support. MASSIVE employee turnover in many cases with no reasonable explanation. I would STRONGLY recommend avoiding any business dealings with Oakville Volkswagen and or Weins Automotive Group. They do not have their staff in their best interest. For that matter, nor do they have their customers in their best interest either. It will be a stain on your resume. This industry is smaller then you might think. Just ask around and obtain some feedback. Do your homework as you will quickly find this to be true. Shame on me for not doing my homework on this company.

My job entailed taking care of the customer and their concern from the beginning of their appointment until they picked their car up.  I would take all their information when they dropped their vehicle off and then I would make sure that information was properly relayed to the mechanic servicing their vehicle.  I would provide updates on the work being performed and I would provide quotes for any work that would be required on the vehicle.  I would arrange to have the customer picked up at the end of the day.  I also did any and all paperwork so as to properly invoice the customer for all work performed.  My favourite part of the day was when I could talk with the customer at the end of the day and go through the details of their service and have them leave happy and safe.

A typical day at Volkswagen starts with a sales meeting, then lot check. After lot check you start to make phone calls and cold calling customers to get them in for appointments. I have learned the art of negotiation and follow-up process. Management at the dealership has had a lot of turnover and new process with each manager who always pick favorites and treat them as such. My co-workers here are great to work with, we helped each other and helped each other grow. The hardest part of the job is the lack of help from managers, they usually sit in their office and wait for you to come in then act annoyed when you ask for help. The most enjoyable part of the job was the excitement of the customer after they purchased their new vehicle.

- work is always busy there was a few days where it was dead in that case you always had something to do. 

-I learned a lot about how VW fixes cars and the way the run the shop how to work the VW diagnostic scan tool and how they go about fixing problems. 

- management was great if there was a problems needed addressed it was always being taken care of and if you made a mistake you'd hear from the manager which is good cause that's how you prevent making mistakes. 

- most co workers are good to you unless you bother them when there busy.

- the hardest part of the job was getting a log in for their computers cause you don't get one till you do 3 months and everyone has there own thing going on so they cant always give you a access to the computer to do your own job
