I also learn about medical terminology, insurance procedures, and privacy regulations relevant to the healthcare industry.

Having worked at corporate office, I can tell you that the company truly tries it hardest to accommodate as many requests as possible.

It is a friendly environment, where an open door policy with all senior management including the CEO is welcomed. 

It is a fast paced place to work at and management expects a lot from their employees. That being said, all management is very hands-on and involved and will themselves spend a lot of time addressing needs and concerns from patients, staff and physicians. The regional directors work long overtime hours and weekends and holidays if needed to address key concerns of their clinics.

There are a few social activities throughout the year either from corporate or at the local clinic level including a summer picnic, a Christmas dinner and regular potlucks.

Most of the staff I work with are pleasant, respectful and go out of their way to help and assist in any way possible. In fact, it is the presence of these wonderful colleagues that makes the stress of a regular work day manageable. They bring fun and levity to a fast pace situation.

Management tries to compensate to fair market value as much as possible. I know that everyone would like a 10% raise every year, but in reality that is not going to happen and is fiscally impossible and foolish. We work in an industry under tremendous strain and increasing costs and the company has to balance the long-term viability of the company versus a constant pay increase. The company identifies key performers and announces bonuses every year.

In addition to just compensation, staff also have a chance to improve their skills through courses approved from the company in order to keep their skills up-to-date. The company will cover 100% of costs if the course is pre-approved.

Our CEO individually visits all of our 42 locations at least once every year as part of the ambassador award given to key personnel at each site. He speaks with staff one-on-one, learning about issues at each site directly from those who work there. How many other companies could say the same. Our HR team then sends the information to all senior management asking for clarifications and suggestions to improve on what was mentioned at these meetings.

Overall, it's been a great experience so far and we have grown significantly. It is due to the vision and guidance of our CEO and board that we are now the single largest private independent health facility company in Ontario in just 5 years since its inception.

I have been with MyHealth, at the corporate office since 2016. In that time, I have seen the company grow from 25 clinics to over 37 today. Having a front row seat in the corporate office gives a unique perspective on the organization and its operation.

The management at MyHealth truly makes an effort to review regularly its policies and procedures and then implement to the best of their abilities given the constraints of time, money and industry regulations. Yes, we would all like more money, but given the industry we are in and the profit margins; certain choices have to be made to ensure the longevity of the company.  HR reviews the pay grid every year to ensure that we are matching the legal and market rates for every position in the company. If the company paid out everything to everyone, I can guarantee you it would not have lasted this long or be as successful as it is right now. 

I have personally been in meetings where long, passionate discussions are held on HR matters, company policies, employee issues, others. I can tell you even the CEO knows all the front desk employee names for all 37 locations! How many of you can say that your CEO knows you by name?

As with any rapidly growing company, there are missteps and stumbles. The company does make an effort to correct this to the best of their ability when things are discovered. The CEO is very adamant that the letter of the law is followed. Every I is dotted and T is crossed.

The company holds biannual meetings with all clinic managers, ensuring feedback from them on performance and issues. The CEO visits every location once a year to have lunch directly with the employees of that location. The head office has an open door policy where you can walk into the CEO office for any issue.

Things that could improve from a head office position - improved benefits (standard industry package), pension plan would be nice to have and a more flexible policy regarding working offsite as needed. Those improvements would increase the satisfaction of corporate staff immensely. 

The company organizes summer picnics, employee appreciation lunches, Christmas celebrations at every location. Staff also receive special awards monthly for above-and-beyond service and are also highlighted in our monthly newsletters.

MyHealth is a company that will be around for a long time because of the mix of dedicated empoyees, hands-on management and a fiscally prudent use of our income. Could it be better? Sure! Is it good now? Absolutely!

A typical day at work
A typical day involves seeing scheduled appointments that provide adequate time to deliver high-quality, individualized diabetes care. I appreciate having the space to thoroughly assess each person, provide meaningful follow-up, and collaborate with the physicians as needed. The structure of scheduled visits allows for better preparation, chart review, and continuity, which ultimately improves patient outcomes.

What I’ve learned
Working in this specialized area has given me the opportunity to learn an incredible amount about diabetes management. Mentorship from a senior Certified Diabetes Educator and the physicians has been invaluable, allowing me to deepen my clinical knowledge, refine my critical-thinking skills, and grow more confident in complex diabetes care. The learning curve is steep, but the growth has been substantial.

Management
Management support can be challenging at times. With one manager responsible for a large number of staff  (not on site), delays are common, and it can take three or more weeks to receive answers or approvals. This makes it difficult to move forward efficiently when guidance or decisions are needed. Improved responsiveness and more distributed leadership would make a meaningful difference.

Workplace culture
The workplace culture is professional, patient-centered, and focused on delivering high-quality care. I’m proud to work in an environment where the standard of care is high and where colleagues strive to do what is best for patients. The clinical team is knowledgeable, supportive, and committed to evidence-based practice.

The hardest part of the job
The most challenging aspect is the significant learning curve associated with such a specialized area of practice. Diabetes management is complex and constantly evolving, which requires continual learning, adaptation, and confidence in navigating nuanced clinical situations.

The most enjoyable part of the job
The most rewarding part is building long-term relationships with clients. Being able to follow patients over time, see their progress, support their successes, and partner with them through challenges is incredibly fulfilling. It’s a privilege to be part of their journey and to provide consistent, compassionate care.

The staff is amazing and friendly, everyone does their best to help each other out when possible. Snacks are available throughout the day (both healthy and not so healthy) which makes for a nice treat or pick me up if needed. Fun little events do happen as well, usually accompanied by lunch or larger dessert. Occasional bigger events are held outside of working hours as well depending on what the celebration is for. Learning advancements are possible from a technologist standpoint, with lots of support from the manager and your fellow techs. 
The hours are long and not very flexible. You only get one 30 min break for the entire day. Mostly working with a skeleton crew, if one calls in sick there is no replacement for them to come in which could mean you could be shuffled somewhere else to try and 'cover' if able to which increases the workload on others.  Trying to take time off for doctor's appts or other things needed throughout the day are considered a hassle and encouraged to do outside of working hours. 
Management is nice and friendly, but also very stressful. They don't get enough support from their uppers to be able to do their job and that stress leaks into their employees at the clinic level. 
Upper management doesn't care about clinic opinions or concerns, just how they can cut costs and get more money from exams as much as possible. They did put on a show about listening to our concerns but that was months ago and nothing has yet to be done. This year was declared to be the year of patient and staff experience. Everyone strives to make the patient experience the best possible but the staff experience has yet to make an appearance.

I worked as an ultrasound technologist at WellHealth and I can honestly say it was one of the most frustrating experiences of my career, and I have been in the field for over 10 years.

First and foremost, the pay is far from competitive. For the amount of responsibility and the level of skill required, the compensation simply does not match up. It felt disheartening to see colleagues in other facilities earning significantly more for the same work.

Management is incredibly demanding, often pressuring staff to accommodate late patients, which leads to a chaotic work environment and leaves little room for proper patient care. This constant rush creates a stressful atmosphere that affects both employees and patients.

There are also no pension benefits, which is a huge red flag for anyone considering long-term employment. Additionally, the lack of overtime pay for the extra hours worked is incredibly frustrating. You often find yourself working beyond your scheduled time without any additional compensation.

Breaks are minimal, and vacation time is scarce, making it difficult to recharge. The work-life balance here is virtually non-existent, leading to burnout and dissatisfaction. The silver lining is a consistent schedule. Coworkers are great because everyone lives in the same nightmare.

Lastly, HR is unreliable and unresponsive. When issues arise, whether it’s about payroll or workplace concerns, it often feels like you're left to fend for yourself.

Overall, I would strongly advise against applying for a position at WellHealth unless you're looking for a place with low morale and high stress. There are much better opportunities out there.

My experience working at WELL Health has been great! A typical day at work is mixed with teamwork, Intriguing challenges and so much to learn. Working at WELL Health your always revolved around great people, everyone is so kind, welcoming and will always help you. I've learned a lot working at WELL Health, verbal and written communication, professional phone etiquette, multi-tasking, customer service, patient relations and much more. The management is great. Daily Shift Duties and schedules are always provided leading to no uniformed information. The workplace culture at WELL Health is wonderful, everyone working at WELL Health is so kind and always there to help when needed. This workplace is inclusive, respectful, collaborative and always there to support one another. The most difficult part of this job personally would be handling difficult situations with patients although it has helped me develop patience, professionalism, and improve my problem-solving abilities. The most enjoyable part of the role is the overall experience. Each aspect of the job offers valuable learning opportunities, from daily interactions to developing new skills, making the role both engaging and rewarding. Overall a great place to work!

A typical day involves supporting physicians and clinics, reviewing referral patterns, and promoting our diagnostic services. There’s a mix of on-the-road clinic visits, follow-ups, planning routes, and updating Salesforce. Every day is different, which keeps the work engaging.

I learned a lot about diagnostic services, building professional relationships, and navigating the healthcare system. The role helped me strengthen communication skills, strategic planning, and how to tailor conversations to different physician needs. It also taught me how to manage a large territory independently.

Management is supportive and approachable. They provide guidance when needed but also trust you to work autonomously. Feedback is always constructive, and expectations are clear. The team genuinely wants you to succeed, which makes a big difference.

The culture is collaborative and fast-paced. People are friendly, helpful, and motivated. Even though much of the work is independent, there’s a strong sense of teamwork and shared goals across the organization.

The most challenging part is managing the volume of clinics and balancing follow-ups while staying organized on the road. Some days can be long and require adaptability, especially when clinic schedules change.

The best part of the job is building relationships with clinics and seeing your efforts translate into stronger partnerships and increased referrals. It’s rewarding to feel like you’re making a positive impact on patient access to care. The autonomy and variety in the role also make the work fulfilling.

I worked as a Patient care representative, typically reviewing any updates or announcement from the previous day, check the schedule for the day and plan work load accordingly, handling inbound calls from patients includes arranging appointment, answering inquiries and general assistance, confirming patients schedule and preparing text message confirmation for upcoming appointments. Additionally, language barrier so some patient has minimal understanding and difficult to communicate so it is needed for a lot of patience to understand them accurately. The most enjoyable part of the job as a Patient Care Representative is the opportunity to make a positive impact on patients' lives and contribute to their overall well-being. Despite the challenges, this role can be highly rewarding.
