I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Gibson`s.  I left after a year of working here to adventure out to try driving team for a couple other companies.  After a year and a half of being away, I was welcomed back with open arms.  I have now been here for another 4 1/2 years.
Sometimes in this industry, miles promised to a driver is not always attainable but Gibson`s always tries to accomodate and get you whatever work is available.  
The equipment is maintained extremely well which has made me feel safe out on the road.
As a woman driver, it can sometimes be intimidating or scary but I have always felt well taken care of.
My main dispatcher is incredible at his job.  I have the highest respect and appreciation for him.  Any other dispatcher that has had to help me has also been knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.
The safety department has been wonderful as well.  They are very patient, understanding and good at teaching what is needed to know or learn from.
The HR department is very knowledgeable and helpful.
I have been impressed with the raises we have received over the last few years. especially during the tough covid times.
Payroll is very good at their job, always accurate and willing to investigate if there were any discrepancies.
The work is long and tiring but so rewarding.
I LOVE MY JOB!

You get dispatched day of sometimes day before. Slip seat job, dedicated tractors for long haul. Routes are generally the same every day, so your pay is the same, give or take a few dollars every week. 

Fantastic yard in Alliston, fuel, DEF, washer fluid, windscreen cleaning stands, showers, lounge, full service shop, wash bay and gated. Satellite yards in Chatham, Dorchester, London, Sarnia and Windsor also gated.
Pulling parts for Honda 99% of the time so all drops are fairly efficient, minimal wait time, paid wait time after 1/2. Paid live loads, deliveries, truck switches. never an issue getting pay, if ever a discrepancy it is easily and efficiently sorted out on your next pay. A handful of bonuses, safety, performance, Time Served...

The equipment is great, Freightliners and a few Western Stars and trailers all very new Great Danes. Any maintenance is handled quick and smooth and again you get paid if asked to wait. Mostly you will just switch Tractors which again you get paid for.

There is only one Dispatcher and one Safety guy that proved to be stubborn, everyone else top to bottom was a pleasure to work with.

Great training program for new drivers. The most enjoyable and the hardest part of the job, same answer, it is a trucking job, you either love it and enjoy most everyday or you hate it and are miserable wondering why you made the choice to get an AZ. I love it! You may not, new driver.

I would not recommend even attempting to get hire from this company. Their hiring process is something that should be greatly overall at all cost if they want to attract drivers. I went through the hiring process and the recruiter said I'm hired give your current employer my two weeks notice and send any updated information we require in an email. You got lots of time. I did what they have asked of me, gave my employer my two week notice. On my last day of work I got an email from the Safety Management that I do not meet their standards. This company had two weeks to tell me this and I would've ask question and corrected any misinformation that I may had made on my part. Because of this I'm working, but not to my full ability as a truck driver.

Told upon hiring that extra runs are completely optional, yet I get FORCED to do extra runs on a regular basis, without any warning prior to starting my day. Same excuse everytime, "we have too much local work and u have to do this". If that is truly the case, than hire more local drivers who only do those extras and stop forcing them on your drivers who want nothing to do with them.

Also being a Canada only driver, I am not able to smoke marijuana (off the job clearly), even though it is legal in Canada. That rule should only apply to their American drivers.

If you have any trailer issues, even though it's a quick fix, you have to bring it to the shop and wait, when they could have fixed the issue b4 u even picked it up.

Warren Gibson has decent equipment and very understanding local dispatchers, but sadly, that's all they have to offer. The HR and Safety departments are cold and impersonal. To them you are just a number, which you would not expect from a mid-sized carrier in a small town like Alliston. Sadly, the work culture here is very negative, which is too bad, because they could easily become a great company to work for. Given that quality drivers are currently hard to come by, I hope they realize and correct these problems one day, and start to appreciate their drivers.

Decent place to work if you want to make money and actually work but like most companies these day a lot of the drivers don’t seem to understand the concept of working for a living as a truck driver and also the mid lives drivers in seniority tend to be abusive and difficult to deal with at best..

Senior drivers and junior drivers are decent and willing to work with people as if management and dispatch..

These is lots of money to be made Monday to Friday and extra to be made Saturday..

They are a great company that does the best they can to ensure drivers are always happy.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Automotive shutdowns and part issues.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very friendly and helpful. Because they are a family business you are treated like part of the family not like a number.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy and organized. Most stress is from border crossing and traffic hang ups.

This company is good if all you're looking for is to get your 2 years of experience to then move on somewhere else. They will never pay you time and a half if you work a holiday And they will never pay you over time If you work it. They are far more concerned about the appearance and condition of their trucks than they are about the drivers who use them.

The safety department will tell you to take your time, get out and relax for a half hour every three hours, the dispatchers will loose it on you if you do, bottom line is they want people to drive 13 hour shifts with only a half hour break and they expext you to go into off duty status while at the customer so your log book looks like you rested the proper amount. If you want to drive toward a heart attack and be a slave to the truck then this is the job for you.

Warren Gibson is one of the leading Canadian companies around, new equipment, excellent wages, great dispatchers an overall excellent company to work for, am currently employed there, excellent safety Dept, this company really cares about thier people, wouldn't be there if it were any different. I worked here 17 years ago, I came back, this will be the company I will retire with, I've tried the rest, but came back to the best.
