A typical work day starts with a short motivational talk with my staff to set the tone for the day. The emphasis is on working safely. Running several reports that show the current status of inventory receipts from vendors and finished goods from manufacturing. Investigating and delegating solutions if necessary. Responding to emails from other stakeholders. Attending meetings both on site and via conference media. Running the day to day activities of the department.

I have learned how to mult-function within a large corporation. Also I have learned how to use the influence of a large corporation when dealing with logistics providers, as one example.

The management at Garland is very fair and at the same time focused on results. The ultimate judges are our customers and shareholders. Management is very structured and process driven. 

My co-workers are typically well educated individuals working in several aspects of manufacturing. Engineers, Quality, IT. The rank and file members are well paid unionized individuals who take pride in what they do.

The hardest part of the job is sometimes balancing meetings with day to day activities. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing plans work and come to life. Working for a well respected employer. 

I worked as an Assembler in both day and afternoon shifts in Garland Commercial Ranges ltd. I learned organizational, leadership, and communication skills. I worked in assembly and sub assembly stations. I had an opportunity to learn hand and power tools. Garland has VP operations, Operations manager, Health and Safety manager, Production manager, HR manager and Supervisors in the management team. Garland is a multi cultural workplace. Honestly i don't have any hardest part in my work because of my co-workers. My co-workers always help me to do my job and my lead hand is very helpful to perform my tasks. My supervisor is very well organized to provide all the instructions that i need to do my job. Garland is well organized and safe place to work. The most enjoyable part in my job is I played as a team player in both shifts.

•         Machining Process & Equipment (I was a manufacturing engineer in heavy duty locomotive engine base for 15 years)

Relatively ok pay throughout engineering positions but depends on which engineering team you're on. PTO is pretty good and most managers in engineering are reasonable when it comes to leaving for personal or health related reasons. Overall in the workplace management is complete shambles and quite disorganized. Definitely, more engineers are required or less projects need to be taken because most engineers have a workload of 2-3 people. During my time there's also been personal or group tension between different sections throughout the company's layers and work environment can be unhealthy at times with collaboration difficult.

This company is a very nice place to work as it is to get along with others also their teaching method are more than exceptional so you won't be confused doing a task but if you do have any do not be afraid to ask their always ready to help. I would go to say the the easiest part of the job was collecting the materials you would need for the day the exhausting part would be the heavy lifting but nothing you can't handle on your own and if there IS something that is hard to grasp, lift or move then of course you should ask for some assistance.

The company has a familial type of culture which I was very lucky to experience. The workers on the floor, for the most part, want to succeed and the management staff is always there for support.The hardest part of the job is getting used to the antiquated ERP system.Given time it can be learned and there was always support from management staff. Overall, this was the best work experience I have had and I would recommend this company without hesitation.

I had a great team on my assembly line, had good mentors and coworkers. There would be a few lazy workers but I work like it reflects who I am as an individual.

Simply put, they reward you a coffee thermos after a year's tenure there. While it is unionized, there is little opportunity to advance unless you're okay with having more responsibility with a tiny bit more pay. Corporate side might fare better but for most, learn what you can here and find the next best position (most do the same from what I've seen and heard while my time at Garland).

The most stressful part to me  is working under the supervision of the supervisors

The typical day is fair enough

I feel like everyday is new day. The worst thing about this company is no standard procedures and benefits for employees.I only got two weeks vacations and others people had three weeks vacations although we started working almost same time. This is how they take advantage of other people who desperately looking for new challenge for their career. They are not reluctant to fire employee as well. No job security. So I left when an oppartuniry arrived.

decent pay, good benefits...  overtime.  plenty of opportunity 
good co-workers

 unreliable amount of day to day  work in the metal shop
