I would not recommend working here. I worked at WP a year, and it was a train wreck from start to finish. Management is not supportive, the Executive Director is not someone who understands how to run a shelter. Due to the mandate, the work is pretty simple and straight forward, however the staff that are being hired have no experience in the field, and do not understand how to work in a crisis environment. Due to this fact, safety is thrown to the wind as no one seems to understand how to work directly in crisis with clients that are struggling mentally. Overall, I would not recommend working here as it is tiresome and not supportive. If you are interested in a job that will burn you out within weeks, this is the place for you. If you do not care about the well-being of your clients and are okay with dealing with management blaming the underdogs, this is the place for you. 

A great summer job for someone with interests in the social work field. I designed and created a summer camp program and co-facilitated it with another staff member. Had a lot of fun leading crafts and games while also learning more about working with individuals who are victims of domestic violence. 
Management and staff were very knowledgeable and supportive. They welcomed questions and offered opinions and assistance. Things didn't always go to plan but I learned how to adapt and change course if needed.
I learned new skills that I will take with me into future education and work endeavours. 
I would definitely recommend this position to others!

I loved meeting the women and families and assisting them but when it came to support from management you were on your own. You would be pushed to be independent but then told it wasn't your job to do things like planning activities. I was told to be flexible with my schedule but was constantly questioned on my time. I felt unsupported when I had questions having to go to coworkers whom so didn't know the answers. I had heard many mixed reviews from previous work and community members which is upsetting as this is one of the largest DV shelters in the city.

Management is very supportive. Ignore the reviews that states otherwise. 

Great entry level position if you are looking for a first job in your field, or are looking to later to pursue a masters and need experience.  Very rewarding work. You experience holidays, outtings, viewing women and children left abuse and make positive change. 

I appreciated how Willow Place supported professional development and also had great respect for the important work they do in violence prevention. Non-profit salaries are a bit lower, but work culture and benefits, as well as ongoing training opportunities had great value that I felt compensated.

I loved the time I worked here. The benefits were great. The women I met made my job exciting. Sometimes, it could be a chaotic night; other times slow and peaceful. The chaotic nights made you appreciate the quiet nights even more. Good management and lots of room for advancement 

fast paced place to learn about time management, crisis intervention and case management, especially if new to the field. Interactions with diverse clients is helpful to developing counselling skills. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable, though management is hands off. 

I loved working at Willow Place as a Residential Support Worker. It was my first Residential Job and I learned alot. I was well trained and evaluated which was very useful. I got along well with the staff and coworkers. I really like my Supervisor, she was great and supportive. 

There is a huge lack of management presence in the organization. This causes chaos within staff and participants. Counsellors who work day shifts have a misperception of leadership. ED is not present and lack of engagement with participants. 

I enjoyed my time at Willow Place and learned so much about domestic violence/ family violence while I was there. I put everything  I  learned in a classroom setting to good use. Great training and workshops. 
Great co- workers and good management.
