I have been working at Yardstick for 4 years now. It has been the longest job I have ever had. Normally I do not stay somewhere for more than 2 years as I get bored. I can safely say that there is nothing boring about working at Yardstick! The work days are busy, the staff are engaging, the events are fun and the culture is AMAZING!!

A typical day in the life of a Yardstickian can be described as super busy and eventful but very rewarding. At times things can get overwhelming but we have great outlets to help reduce the stress such as; a very engaged management team, great walking paths around the building and a super cozy couch to nap on during breaks. And besides, what job doesn't have stresses? 

Working at Yardstick is nothing short of a learning experience as well. The company offers training and development for each position and they are always encouraging growth,  whether it be in personal or professional life for us. Helping grow our skills in work life with the latest technologies, customer service or how to be a great leader!

The management team at Yardstick is one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of working under. Managers are super engaged with staff and you can tell they really care about the teams they are in charge of. Whether it be one on one lunches to get to know you better or having them walk around and check in and ask you about how your day or weekend went. The managers are a huge part of the culture as well.  

The culture at Yardstick us unlike any other I have seen, and even past employees will tell you that too. Whether it is stories of the famous JPL Christmas Parties or  the Company Curling Events! We work hard here and we play even harder! They see our hard work day in and day out and they reward us with the fun we get to have here as a company. 

The hardest parts of the job and the most enjoyable parts of the job will vary depending on who you ask. Each role has its quirks (as does any job/role) but it is up to the person to work through those things. We are given more than enough tools and support to be successful in what we do, and if we aren't we ca always ask for more help. Yardstick cares about each staff member and tries to be as supportive and helpful as they possibly can to ensure that each employee is happy with where they are. 

My experience at Yardstick was ultimately undesirable due to ongoing issues with communication, workload expectations, and support. 
I often encountered inconsistent treatment related to my needs and concerns, and although I raised these issues through the appropriate channels, they were not meaningfully addressed.

Management relied heavily on micromanagement, and performance expectations were frequently unrealistic. Feedback was rarely provided unless it was negative, and concerns about workload or processes were often documented without discussion.

Work‑life balance was poor. Staff were regularly expected to take on responsibilities outside their roles due to understaffing and lack of departmental support. Burnout was common, and turnover was high.

Despite claims of competitive pay, compensation and raises were minimal, and opportunities for advancement were limited. Employees who expressed concerns or offered constructive feedback were often overlooked for growth opportunities.

I hope Yardstick invests in clearer communication, fairer workload distribution, and more consistent support for employees moving forward... At minimum.

Yardstick Technologies is a managed services provider owned and operated by people who have never worked for a managed services provider nor seem to have a solid command on what running such a business entails. The resulting mess seems to have coalesced into a business where you'll be hired because you have a skillset they want or need only to find yourself cast adrift with the unspoken expectation that you will somehow make things work. Due to the overall lack of communication and clear business goals or direction, it is entirely likely that you will wind up doing the same mindless tasks over and over again. Management is performed largely and clumsily by spreadsheet.

They do provide Monday lunches and occasional company events, coupled with monthly meetings during which they throw cash prizes at whomever has received the most compliments in what comes across as an attempt to retain helpdesk staff and keep them performing at a high level while they are burning out. Your reward for being whipped for a year is a paid weekend at Jasper Park Lodge during which several mandatory events are held. Health and Dental is offered at the bare minimum with no vision coverage. Rates increase with no increase in salary. 

Burnout is commonplace with a staff turnover at a rate of about 1 to 2 staff members per month. This is a chew you up and spit you out sort of place. Expect neither empathy nor sympathy.

Around 9 people were fired or quit in the 8 months I was employed there. Very ineffective management with poor communication and lots of double standards. The owners offer customer service and quality solely based on profit -- nothing is done there without a profit incentive for the owners, who are constantly micromanaging everyone and causing further inefficiencies. 

While most of the people there are great and enjoyable to work with, the fake management is a huge let down. Its a very good place to work for a short period of time, until you can find something better.

Seems like a great place to work from the outside, and its not until a few months in you start realizing the owners & their greed are the biggest problems...

Yardstick has a culture of expecting excellence from every employee. In return, the company goes above and beyond to take care of the staff. It's a friendly group of people who are a ton of fun to work with and who want to smash goals as a team. 

The commitment to staff happiness is unparalleled. The company has all expected benefits (health and dental, RRSP, PTO etc) and also provides ample opportunities for training, every employee has a personal and professional growth plan, they plan social activities on a regular basis, bring in lunch every Monday and much more.

Employees encouraged to document and report other employee mistakes on tickets in process and documentation which would be recorded on KPI's and Metrics visible to all and used to deduct monies from bonuses. Employees were also informed as to who had reported their mistakes in the effort to create better work performance without thought as to how it would affect the work environment.

I had the privilege of working at Yardstick Technologies for two years, and it was an incredibly rewarding experience. The team is not only talented but also highly supportive, with a strong emphasis on mentoring and professional growth. I learned a great deal during my time there, and the friendships I formed have lasted well beyond my time at the company. It's a place where people truly care about your development, both personally and professionally, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such an inspiring and collaborative environment.

I have been working with Yardstick for almost 3 years. Over that period of time I have had the opportunity to grow into a new position, work with the best team in the city, support the BEST clients and be a part of an organization that cares and respects their employees. 

From our quarterly corporate activities, to free lunch Mondays and doggy day Fridays, Yardstick Technologies truly cares about you as a person. They want you to succeed. 

That being said, we are a fast past organization and with that comes a lot of responsibilities.

All I can say is why didn’t I find this Company sooner! I have never worked for a better Company with such great people. I enjoy going into work everyday and it’s been wonderful to be a part of the Company's growth over the years. The owners invest in you and work to help you succeed professionally.  They look after you and listen when you are struggling. I couldn’t ask for a better place to have a career

There's some real good people there and they have a great goal but the management is 'motivation by fear'.

It's all about how many tickets you can close in a day.

Very poor communication from management to staff.

No job descriptions/expectations so you inevitably can't meet them.
