Zumiez

Zumiez is a great job, if you get called in to work often. Zumiez is an unforunate business because they enjoyed firing and hiring new employees every month. I was one of the lucky sellers who got to stay for a longer duration than most. A typical day at work was awesome, i experienced a variety of different of people, and all I did was talk to customers, relate to them, and help them have the best shopping experience one can ever witness. The management was not the best because managers would come and go every few months or so, with managers either being fired or demoted. The coworkers werent the fairest because we were taught to compete against each other rather than work together to achieve the highest revenue of that day or week, or etc. The hardest part of the job was the constant oncalls, this job only provided actual shifts to the managers and the assistant managers, while everyone else was scheduled based on on-calls. 9/10 times, you were not needed for an on-call, so it was hard to earn money. The most enjoyable part of the job was talking to customers, while being in a laid back work environment.

Zumiez is a pretty standard work place, customer service, be personable and enjoy yourself. Zumiez severely lacks in organization, management does schedules 1 week in advance and your days/hours will be completely random. I've worked with and at Zumiez for over 2 years being my only job. The people I work with have always been great however, the company doesn't value your person and upper management treats you as a number in a system. I am however though grateful for the job, opportunity and experience. This job has taught me how to communicate on the floor, talk with strangers comfortably and most of all enjoying work and making the space a better place. The most enjoyable part was for sure talking and getting to know all sorts of people and feeling as though I could make a difference by making one person's day. It can however be a very depressing surrounding with the scenery, cliental and ultimately upper management plus the way they expect you to sell. All in all with the right team it's a fun job but in the end there's no many negatives and not enough upsides to consider a healthy workspace.

Pros:
	•	The company provides opportunities for growth, and there’s a strong emphasis on performance-based incentives for those who meet targets.
	•	The work environment can be rewarding if you’re driven and committed, with chances to showcase leadership and sales ability.

Cons:
	•	The clarity around certain policies, particularly in regard to compensation and eligibility for bonuses, could be improved.
	•	Expectations are high, and while hard work can lead to success, unclear communication and inconsistent support from management can lead to confusion.
	•	Despite consistently delivering strong results, there can be a disconnect between efforts and recognition, which can be frustrating.

Overall:
Zumiez is a company with a lot of potential for ambitious individuals who are driven to perform, but the lack of clear communication around certain policies and expectations can make the experience challenging. A more transparent and supportive approach would improve the employee experience.


in my opinion zumiez was everything I needed when I was around 21-22 years old. It helped me be more social and break out of awkward phases of my younger years. looking back now, Its a fun little part-time / full time job that can be a simple job or fully consume your life with the culture the job demands you to become and follow and be passionate about. 

If you are passionate and have nothing else going on in your life, zumiez is a place where you can work hard and make it up the ranks with benefits and perks to go along with it. 

suffice to say these are lackluster perks at best and in the end only promotes the money hungry attitude the company is all about since you will be fighting work friends for the sales you desperately need to unlock these perks. 

the ideas they have are great, but the way they are practiced and turnover in reality is much different. and somewhat annoying.

Days would be very repetitive; grab pallet[s] corresponding to your task form, work on clothing/accessories as task form describes, roll down work line towards receiving. Very, very repetitive work.

Management at the time was decent, or less-than-decent [I did hear the manager I worked under was let-go, so new management may be better]. Very easy to follow and understand, yet management always expected things to be done seriously, and quickly even though they'd be the ones fooling around with the employees, and then get upset with employees when it got a little bit relaxed.

Culture around the warehouse was very friendly and everyone was very close, as the manager really wanted everyone to get along. Birthdays were enjoyable.

There is always something to do at Zumiez. There are many projects and goals to be focusing on and some of which are, providing the best customer service,  focusing on stock, merchandising the store and managing a team of sales associates.

The thing I learned most working at Zumiez is how to manage and motivate a team. Constant chats with my sales associates include clear expectations, positive feed back, opportunities and actions moving forward.  This was something that developed through day to day experience. I found this to be the most challenging but extremely helpful and rewarding.

The most enjoyable part of the job is being apart of the skate culture. I enjoy skateboarding and longboarding so being able to connect and relate to customers on that level is great. I get to suggest alternatives and advice to customers who share the same passion as me.

I love the culture at Zumiez. Everyone is so great to work with and if you relate to the Zumiez style, then you'll get along with your employees and customers just fine. They train you on how to act the way they are (easy-going, social, personable) which can kind of be pressuring when you're just starting out. Aside from that, I think the company may be too easy-going. 
We have had a lot of theft in our store which could be easily prevented by installing cameras, security tags and security systems. They don't approve of this however because it effects the "Zumiez Culture" and don't want to make the customers feel uncomfortable. That's kind of understandable but our theft was so bad, they decided to shut it down instead of using other alternatives which in the end, left us all jobless.

Zumiez is honestly they best place to work at. Zumiez  as a company likes to focus on giving the best customer  experience  possible. Even though a customer pay not buy anything the experience is what they will remember. Me working there i have build on skills that i can use  in any work environment. Management is amazing !!  they really push you to be there best version of you , whether that be on the sales floor or outside of  work. In addition management motives  you to take initiative then comes to problem solving.  Zumiez  work culture is amazing , my fellow associates are great , easy to work with and communicate .  it feels like you are working with a group of your friends , work is work  but even if you feel stressed you know you have your fellow associates to count on.

Hours are based on sales performance , but if you do good you are rewarded. Pay is low but higher sales get commission. Fun and competitive environment where you are free to be yourself. No dress code, and can sometimes skate in the store. The only problem is a majority of the managers dont care about their job by extension also dont care about yours. This means sales not being put under you, drama , and tension. People will try to steal sales , and so its hard to fully like your coworkers at times. Expectations are high when it comes to theft, you are accountable when it comes to stopping theft. It can be stressful if you want to be a top performer in order to get hours. That being said, some managers are extremely understanding and will help you succeed within the company. Its a hit and miss most days.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing at all this company treats their staff like garbage and expects way more work then there willing to pay. DO NOT WORK FOR ZUMIEZ I REPEAT DO NOT WORK FOR ZUMIEZ 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part is waking up the morning of your shift knowing full well you’re going into a job that is only going to stress you out and completely take away any remaining happiness you have left

the work environment is nothing short of hostile and abusive

Literally a living nightmare I’ve worked as a server and was treated better
