This is a facilitator's position to facilitate groups for mother and children who have gone through domestic violence. Catholic Family Services have a group of facilitators from which they choose facilitators depending upon availability and requirement. Groups are usually in the evenings or weekends.

A typical day starts with the breakfast and then an interactive activity and then participants discuss the topic of the day which is to help them understand the life after domestic violence. Facilitators also connect them with other community resources depending on their need. I enjoy the whole program as it gives you immense satisfaction that you are helping someone who really needs help at a particular stage of their life. Making a difference in people's life gives joy.

Start the day with a staff meeting, where any issues are brought up.
Front reception, greet clients, offer refreshments,book appointments, bookkeeping. Clean office area of debris. Open client file, after appointment, rebook for another. Confirm appointments by phone. Create documentation for evening classes. Accepting donations, selling tickets for various fundraisers. Making photocopies of various brochures. Receiving and posting incomes.
This is a quiet place to work, all files and client info are confidential. 
Staff and clientele are friendly. You go home with a sense of pride with the people that are helped everyday.

I enjoyed deepening clinical skills through trainings, supervisions, and peer consultations. The agency offers a wealth of great programs for community members, but due to lack of sufficient funding for additional frontline staff, counsellors are frequently overworked. Felt that management was disconnected from the experience of both employees and clients, and prioritized efficiency over values of quality care or work-life balance. High turnover rate due to resignations and terminations reflect poor relationship between staff and management.

A typical day at this agency for counselling/programming is very confusing. The job outlines and explanations are very unclear, you are extremely overoworked with little to no support from your supervisor. If you state that you are overwhelmed, you're not met with any "happy mediums" or compromise. Management are all friends, therefore taking any concerns higher up gets nothing done. I noticed that there was a huge turnover rate, a lot of people left and I see why.

I found working here to be very rewarding. Each daycare within CFS is ran differently and most of the people are good. Would not recommend the Rosewood location as it is full of cliques and the boss is a narcissist who values what the parents say about themselves above anything. Even to the point of putting down the staff to achieve their own personal goals. Check ins from the higher ups are just a ruse and everyone will be informed and that day the boss' favorites will be off their cellphones.

Typical day: 37.5hr work week. Evening work required for some positions. 
What I learned: Human services, respect for clients, child protection support services.
Workplace culture: collaborative, positive, this agency has a Social Committee that plans amazing activities and events large and small throughout the year, each staff person contributes a set amount annually to fund the social committee's work.

I was enjoying working there with the children at school and their staff.  However until we got sa new manager/executive director, the directions of the agency changed.  The staff don't feel supported.  Staff are very upset of the chnages without being informed.

Collegues are welcome when you see your each other. They have tiny kitchen, so if you want to make tea you can do. in the morning time they meet in a place in the centre and one by one collegues saying what they will do and how they manage all cases.

The Management had little regard for employees well-being. 
The group of people on the floor made it a fun and productive workplace.
The work place was constantly understaffed which made work life very stressful.
